Tourette's is kind of in a weird spot when it comes to classifying it as a disability. Like, is it an invisible disability? Well that depends. Is it a physical disability? Yeah, but it's caused by your brain. Is it neurodivergent? Yes, but it also has a strong physical manifestion. Is it a disability at all? Well that depends on if it's disabling, some people have it so severely they struggle with daily life, and some people have it so mildly it would never get diagnosed, and there's so much variation in between, which also fluctuates for everyone.

Please use these terms correctly. Not doing so will deeply harm the people who actually have experienced trauma, gaslighting, triggers, and people who have NPD.
Edit: okay holy hell this blew up overnight. To everyone who is mentioning the censoring - I did not make this graphic, nor did I censor it. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE and it actually kind of ties into my original point. That being said, PLEASE stop reblogging just to say that. I know. Everyone knows. It has been said enough.
Studying for psychology. This week in Psych 101 we are learning about types of research and what goes into it. It’s been interesting so far.
I would love to do one of those 100 days of productivity but let’s be real, I would never keep up with posting every day.
This is my third week of school and I am enjoying it so far. This morning I submitted a learning memoir for my composition class.
I am taking 4 classes this semester. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of it and how the Lord moves through this.
One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.
Bible study recently. Finn has started to join me again which makes my heart happy.
What NOT to say to someone with tics
About a year ago I asked for people with tics/Tourette's to send me things not to say to people with tics. I am so sorry it has taken me so long to post this.
"I'm so sorry" - this could make someone feel bad about being disabled and it feels condescending
"Well you don't look like you have Tourette's" - Tourette's doesn't have a look and not all disabilities are visible
"Just relax" - being relaxed doesn't necessarily make tics go away
"Stop hitting yourself" - don't you think I would if I could.
"Have you tried yoga" - yoga wont magically make someone's tics go away
"But I didn't see you tic" - tics fluctuate so just because you didn't see someone tic doesn't mean they are faking
"You have tics, do you swear?!" - not everyone with tics has coprolalia and its a stereotype that all people with tics swear
"Can you stop that please" - tics are involuntary, someone can't just stop having a tic because you find it annoying
"So you can say whatever you want and not get in trouble" - this is just not true at all, people with Tourette's face a lot of discrimination because they can't control what they say and people think they are faking so they can be rude
"Well if you take medication, why aren't your tics gone?" - medication doesn't make tics go away fully
"Can you tic *insert word/movement here* for me?" - this is just so rude!!
"I wish I had tics" - even if you mean this in a positive way, it is still really disrespectful
There are so many more not on this list as well!
Finn used to join me for bible study every day. I miss when he used to join me
