Common Apollo worshipper things I’ve seen

Before I begin this really random post I just decided to write up two seconds ago I want to point out that if you do worship Apollo and don’t feel any of these things, you’re still fuckin’ valid alright. Nothing can determine or describe or define what it should be, is, or feels like. These are just some things that I experienced and later figured that other Apollo worshippers/devotees/beans apparently have as well, which I just think is really fucking cool. 

the inexplicable sudden urge to study several instruments out of nowhere. I have this burning need to learn the recorder, study twenty new piano pieces and pick up my guitar-oh and how cool would a harp and a lyre and a lute be and-

having so much appreciation for tiny rays of sunlight shining through curtains it could save your life, thinking about Apollo a moment before the sun suddenly peeks through the clouds. 

Apollo is very versatile in the way he looks. I think maybe because of this he’s so hard to describe. His skin and eyes and hair changes color if he wants, but I feel like he has a ‘standard’ way of representing himself to people most often. (let me know how you feel about this though)

he likes to chat! often find myself just. sitting in an empty room talking like someone’s with me- he’s a great listener. apparently a lot of you have this?

apollo’s not afraid to call you out on your bullshit, doesn’t really enjoy you being unsure but also doesn’t rage. when I was in my early stages still and desperate for a ‘clear’ sign from him, he rickrolled me. i still have my waves of confusion sometimes, and he likes to poke fun at that.

he likes to tackle things that aren’t “officially” part of the Apollo package. I associate the wind with him quite often. I’m not sure if this is UPE but does anyone else associate bees and butterflies and rainbows with him? Or other non-traditional things?

anger, rage, (verbal) fights, very intense overwhelming pain and sadness are more his forte than most might think. He’s a great helper in this. 

his fav colors being gold, yellow, orange, and glitter.

overall he’s a giant sweetheart with a soft spot for art and pretty things, loves when you Do something for him, likes fun and jokes, can get very serious and helpful and protective. know about rage and pain, which in its own way makes him the radiant joyful being that he is.

☀️Sun Meditations☀️

🌞Drawing in Sun Energy Meditation🌞:

This can be done right before any kind of Sun magic or working with Sun deities. It’s also a easy way to recharge your personal energies. If you’re tired and in need of an energy boost during the day use this exercise to recharge your energy levels. It’s also an excellent way to raise energy for any type of healing work

🌞If possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if it’s cold outside, stand by a window where the Sun’s light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.

🌞 Close your eyes. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Take 3 deep breaths in-and-out and allow your body to relax.

🌞Turn your hands palm up, raise them to the sky (if that’s comfortable, just resting them on your lap, palms open, works just as well). See the Sun’s energy streaming towards you, and then draw it between your hands until you hold a fiery, golden orb of light.

🌞Slowly lower your hands. As you do, see the Sun’s energy filling your body. See the Sun’s energy filling your head then lower your hands to your chest and see it filling your heart in the core of your being.

🌞Lower your hands again and see the Sun’s energy fill the lower part of your body, going down the soles of your feet. Repeat as many times as you wish.

🌍Grounding Sun Meditation☀️:

This meditation is my favorite way to ground. The sun and earth work in harmony to bring you balance and strength.

🌍 If possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if it’s cold outside, stand by a window where the Sun’s light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.

☀️Hold your hands palms up. See a ray of golden light shining on you. Concentrate on the light. Concentrate on emotions being felt and physical sensations. Feel or imagine its warmth on your skin.

🌍Take a deep breath, and as you do, see the sunlight filling you. Take 2 more deep breaths, or until you feel filled with sunlight.

☀️Now place your hands Palm down on the ground to either side of you. Imagine reaching down through the Earth - down, down to the fiery core of the planet.

🌍Take a deep breath and, pulling up the fires that are at the heart of the Earth, take 2 more deep breaths until you are filled with the fires of the Earth.

☀️Place your palms over your heart. See the golden sunlight in the fires at the core of the Earth mix and blend as they fill in circulate through your being.

Regular Deity Work

I do deity work every day. But on the off chance that I don’t, for whatever reason, then it’s every other. I’ve just set up my day so that it’s something I can do, and then made sure that I followed through on it.

Typically, my daily routine with my deities includes:

Offering of coffee/tea (+ an optional food)

Cleaning altars, replacing materials

Meditation session

Tarot reading or scrying

I think the key to getting in deity work every day for me was just keeping it simple and do-able. Five hours of ritual every morning just isn’t possible for me. But sharing my breakfast? Definitely do-able. I typically make coffee or tea every morning, and boiling a second cup of water isn’t exactly a big deal. It’s something little that I can share, so I do.

I don’t add on a bunch of stuff like rites of evocation, calling the elements, drawing a circle, etc., partially because of the way I’ve set up my space, and also because I’ve spent a lot of energy and time on investigating and getting to know the entities I work with that at this point, I do the necessary steps semi-automatically. For example, calling out to Hades has become significantly simpler through the intentional use of his statue and altar space. In general, the more I work with them, the less conscious effort it takes to call them into my space.

I’m not sure I have any tips to adopting a more regular integration of deities or spirits into your life other than: look at patterns already set in your day-to-day life and explore how they might be altered to include some form of spiritual work. That’s generally applicable to all witchcraft, but it’s true nonetheless. The key to incorporating magick in your daily life is to start.

Easy Daily Offering for Aphrodite

You’ll need this stuff: Paper, pen, scissors, a jar, a lighter/matches, some time and a fireproof container.

You’ll do this stuff: On your paper, write down words you like, or words that make you think of Her. Space them apart, because you’ll be cutting them out later. Alternately, you could go with concepts, such as “A rising sun” or “The first sip of coffee.” Whatever vibes with you.

Cut them out and use a pencil to roll them up. Trust me, once you get the hang of it, they’ll look super cute. Put them all in a jar. Fill them up with that loving Aphrodite feel.

Every day after this, take out one roll. Read it, feel it, tell Aphrodite why you chose this word or concept if you want, then burn it to send it to her!

(You could probably do this for a different deity - you know yours best.)

chthonic worship tip

In my experience, chthonic (underworld) gods really appreciate hearing “thank you.” (This includes Hades and Persephone as well as Hecate, Hermes in his psychopomp aspect, Hypnos, Thanatos, Morpheus, and others.) They all do incredibly dirty, difficult, and vitally important jobs and rarely get recognition for it.

Things you can thank them for:

Sheltering, protecting, and taking care of the dead

Treating everyone fairly, meting out divine justice to people who escaped it in life

Allowing us to extract precious metals and material resources from the earth (I usually pair this with a commitment to do what I can to be a responsible steward of the earth, and follow the principle of xenia rather than hoarding wealth)

Maintaining the boundaries between this world and the next, and allowing people to pass through when appropriate

Making new growth possible by clearing away that which is no longer useful (this can be both literal and metaphorical)

Guiding and looking after people who are going through grief, depression, or “dark nights of the soul,” enabling personal rebirth and transformation

Protecting and nourishing the roots of plants, making all plant life and agriculture possible

Things that come from or are sheltered in their world include: sleep, dreams, precious metals, plant life, reincarnated or newly incarnated souls, magic, purpose and destiny — and according to interpretation, vaccination, EMDR, anesthesia, X-rays and MRIs, mass social movements, psychology, shadow work**

**I once read a great series of essays on the rivers of the Underworld (which I can not find right now) that posited the principle of vaccination comes from the Styx. According to myth, Achilles was dipped in the river as a baby and this protected his body from injury — just as exposure to a dead pathogen grants our bodies protection from a live version of that same pathogen. Along these lines, things like anesthesia and EMDR would come from the Lethe and/or the Acheron, psychology and self-reflection from the Mnemosyne, and so on. And modern astrology understands Pluto (Hades) as a god of invisible forms of power, which makes him also the ruler of things like X-rays and MRIs, nuclear energy, mass movements, and lots of other things…

Hermes has his palm placed on every word you speak, everything you say that can be understood. In this sense, it’s very easy to call him close. Don’t underestimate that.

It’s impossible to hold onto everything you value forever. 

The world isn’t going to pause and wait for you to recover from that loss, either. 

Real self care involves a lot of hard work.
