Veterinarian Dr. Lauren Howard of the Houston Zoo was tasked with removing a cancerous lump from the left foot of an endangered Houston toad [Anaxyrus houstonensis]. In this video she demonstrates how anesthetics are applied to toads in their facility, while also preforming a minor toe amputation and detailing the recovery process of her tiny patient. This is a very informative little video, and not as graphic as it sounds. Definitely worth a watch.

These sweet little blorps are Scaphiophyrne gottlebei, also known as Malagasy rainbow burrowing frogs or Gottlebe’s narrow-mouthed frogs. These beautiful but rarely seen frogs are among the rarest in the world, and highly sought after in the pet trade despite the lack of captive breeding efforts.
