Final Part 2- (left is mine)
Title/Materials" "Artificial Facade" My materials that I used were my sketch book, lots of magazines and glue.
Complimentary Colors" Yellow and Purple/Red and Green. I used yellow and purple as my background/accent colors. You can this these through the background prints as well as the flowers placed around the woman's face. The green and red were together from the makeup. This was not my primary focus for complimentary colors, however, it happened organically and I liked the look.
Inspiration from a classmate: I got inspired by maxwolfe22. Max's piece is on the right. I loved that Max chose a focal face to center his work around. I did a similar thing. I also liked how he incorporated strong images that surrounded the face. It almost feels as though the person is being drowned or contained by the images around him. This is the feeling I wanted to replicate in my piece.
Visual and Conceptual Goals: My piece was inspired by the idea that we are constantly consumed with expectations and standards that society brings. A majority of this consumption, especially for women, is through makeup and the beauty industry. I chose to place large, very oversized makeup around the woman's face to replicate this. I wanted her to feel consumed or drowning in the makeup. This feeling of pressure and upkeep a create the idea that women need to create a facade, or maintain an act. This is wrong and hopefully will eventually come to an end. Beauty is everywhere, and changing just places an emphasis on the idea that natural isn't normal.
