Momento Mori: Natura Morta Macabra (1604) - Jacopo Ligozzi
What is wrong with being a man, or similar identities?
It's one of those kinks that's almost impossible to do ethically
I've talked many times about how choosing to be dominant in a scene or a relationship is choosing to take on responsibility. Power and responsibility come hand in hand they are intrinsically linked, so to put yourself in a position of power is to accept the responsibility to use that power to help those without power
Choosing to be a man (whether or not you were coercively assigned the role at birth) in a patriarchal society is choosing to put yourself in a position of power and hence comes with responsibility. If you don't want the responsibility then you need to actively work to put down the power
It's similar with race, it's a totally made up thing that's societally enforced, I'm not 'white' because 'white' isn't an extant thing, it's not part of my identity or something I care about. But that's not the assumption that anyone who looks at me is going to make and I can't escape that assumption, I am stuck in a position of power over racialised people and it's therefore my responsibility to use that power to help those without it. I seek out black voices, artists, authors, I've read about racism both as it is now and its history, I don't stand by and do nothing when other people are racist around me I use my voice and the way people perceive me to do good. I don't say this for praise I say this because unfortunately being white is also a kink that's almost impossible to do ethically
If the EU continues refusing to recognize my authority as Witch Queen, then I will plunge western Europe(and Iceland) into a day of Darkness.
The Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad is, to a modern audiences, what classicists have called “boring as hell,” but I can’t help but think that if you were watching Homer recite it it would have been more like when comedians go, “anybody here tonight from Chicago?” and the Chicagoans in the back start cheering
Homer’s like, “and there were forty black ships from… LOCRIS” and the Locrians in the crowd start going absolutely nuts
Hey, I'm a clocky trans woman who's under-employed and working thru an environmental science master's degree without support from the institution. I will probably be employed by the end of this month but May rent plus food and junk is still gonna be pretty rough.
I know shit's hard for everyone but if anyone happens to feel like they wanna contribute to the survival fund of ya girl my venmo's @str-ngeloop . your support helps me keep making weird overintellectualized posts.
hey everybody, out of money again. it would be much appreciated if you wanted and had the means to throw some money my way <3
I'm building great and terrible toys. My play shall doom uncountable generarions to whimsy and games beyond their comprehension.

i. the monster's body is a cultural body
ii. the monster always escapes
iii. the monster is the harbinger of category crisis
iv. the monster dwells at the gates of difference
v. the monster polices the borders of the possible
vi. fear of the monster is really a kind of desire
vii. the monster stands at the threshold… of becoming
oh shit i didn't expect this to actually get notes lmao
these are all direct quotes from jeffrey jerome cohen's "monster culture (seven theses)" (full pdf linked) i highly encourage you to read it yourself!
that said, while i think cohen's writing is evocative, it can be a little dense, so while i'm here, here's my capsule summary (you can also hear me talk about this in the first episode of my podcast) (listen to @ghostswerepeopletoo)
i. the monster's body is a cultural body - The monster is a work of fiction to be analyzed through tools of literary and sociological theory.
ii. the monster always escapes - As long as the cultural fear from which the monster stems persists, the monster will reappear in retellings, reimaginings, and sequels.
iii. the monster is the harbinger of category crisis - Monsters defy binaries and challenge easy comprehension or categorization.
iv. the monster dwells at the gates of difference - The monster represents the Other.
v. the monster polices the borders of the possible - Tales of the monster exist to discourage unacceptable or taboo behaviors.
vi. fear of the monster is really a kind of desire - Subjects can vicariously participate in the disruption of the social order through the monster.
vii. the monster stands at the threshold… of becoming - Within the monster we find information about the self.
It's not "incorrect" to treat tabletop RPG character creation as a guided OC creation tool – heck, it's not even novel; the first published tabletop RPG to explicitly frame character creation as a standalone solo minigame came out in like 1977 – but you do need to recognise that each character creation system is tuned to produce a very particular Type of Guy. Yes, even the ostensibly "generic" ones. This isn't a flaw – obviously you want character creation for a game to strongly push people toward creating characters who are both willing and able to participate in the things the game in question is about – but it's something to be aware of when using tabletop RPGs in this way. If you're trying to use Dungeons & Dragons as a creative framework for a character who would never under any circumstances voluntarily go into a dungeon to fight a dragon, you're gonna have a rough time!
I hear the next Ultimate Steamer Cruise (tm) is going to Lost Carcosa. Yeah Northern Lion is planning to stream Binding of Isaac beneath black stars set in a dead sky.

Marylanders don’t say hi hello how are you my name is they just try to kill you with their car. which is of course a great honor in their culture
In Northern Virginia the country of my birth people kill you with their car because you deserve it. sic semper tyrannis
In DC they kill you without even noticing.
There is only one Staircase. All steps are merely the Hydra heads of its many branching flights. We all live on the landings, between the steps of our ascent and descent.
