Marylanders don’t say hi hello how are you my name is they just try to kill you with their car. which is of course a great honor in their culture
In Northern Virginia the country of my birth people kill you with their car because you deserve it. sic semper tyrannis
In DC they kill you without even noticing.
There is only one Staircase. All steps are merely the Hydra heads of its many branching flights. We all live on the landings, between the steps of our ascent and descent.
Friend: Hey, want to watch a movie this evening?
Girl who is hopelessly dependent on her obsidian mirror: Let me scry the spirits and get back to you.
The Obsidian Mirror of an accursed land:
the word from central planning is we need a greater diversity of fursonas around here
Axolotl dragon reporting in!
excellent, this is exactly what we need c:
is an otter diverse enough?
absolutely c:
One eternally out of place Questing Beast reporting in with a howl like a dog and a face like a snake.
Driving is really really scary though. Like everyone is garunteed to get into at least one car accident in their life. Isn't it kinda fucked to base your transportation system on something so dangerous that everyone is practically destined to either die or almost die from it?
When I say "godspeed" (I say it a lot) I like to imagine I'm a member of a futurism religion that worships velocity above all else. Like its the standard well-wishing in my culture. Speedliness is next to godliness. Someday we'll catch him! And the closer we get the more he loves us
going one step beyond "d&d style fantasy world but with functioning economics" and into "fantasy world where instead of adventurers you have roving parties of economists and you have to choose which school/subfield combination to spec into"
... ...hmm wait no this is too good of an idea
instead of dungeons you venture into ENCLOSURES, regions of the world where the allocation of scarce goods has failed, and productive economic activity has ceased. your job is to confront the rent-seekers, toll-trolls, and zombie firms therein, while negotiating lemon bazaars, toxic assets, and poison pills to liberate the stranded capital therein and return it to general circulation. these may suffer from AUTARKY (cut off and forced into self-sufficiency; stagnant, risk-averse, prone to hoarding); CAPTURE (trapped in the grip of a rent extractor who sits on the flow of wealth and strangles it); COLLAPSE (the local economy has broken down and is trapped in an equilibrium it cannot escape from); or UNDEATH (distorted, misshapen regions of the market corrupted by subsidies, keeping alive that which should have long ago passed away), or some other malady.
your SCHOOL determines much of your spell/ability inventory, and gives you access to TALENT TREES to further specialize:
Classical Political Economy: Physiocrat, Ricardo-Smithian, and Georgist talent trees
Marginalist: Lausanne, Austrian, and Marshallian talent trees
Chicago: Price Theory, Monetarist, and New Classical talent trees
Keysnian: Neoclassical Synthesis, New Keynsian, and Post-Keynsian talent trees
Marxian: Classical Marxist, Sraffian/Neo-Ricardian, and Dependecy/World-Systems talent trees
Institutionalist: Old Institutionalist, New Institutionalist, Public Choice talent trees
Behavioral: Heuristics & Biases, Experimental, Neuroeconomics talent trees
Environmental: Resource, Green, and Blue talent trees
Evolutionary and Complexity: Schumpeterian, Nelson-Winter, and Econophysics talent trees
Provisioning and Stratification: Feminist, Capability Approach, and Stratification talent trees
your SUBFIELD gives you a role in the Chartered Company and enhances spells associated with that role; not all SUBFIELDS and all SCHOOL specializations are viable
all parties of course need at least one generalist Macroeconomist, who can quickly take stock of the ills besetting the Enclosure and stabilize the situation while the rest of the party gets to work (but who is ill-equipped to deal with particulars)
and they probably need one generalist Microeconomist as well, who can observe individual incentive structures closely and redesign small-scale mechanisms on the spot
an Empiricist can be adept at discerning real symptoms from coincidences, but requires a lot of setup time and is weak under pressure
and Economic Historian can call upon the lore of similar Enclosures other economists have encountered before to amplify your Company's powers (but may misdiagnose new problems)
your Trade Economist can sense exchange rate and price gaps between the Enclosure and the outside world, and facilitate reconnecting it with the rest of the economy
your Monetary Economist can sense debt overhang and credit conditions, inject liquidity, and restructure debt--but bad fiscal policy can also make everything much, much worse
at the heart of each enclosure you will of course have to fight a terrible enemy--creatures like the Seignior that prints money every round of combat, the colossal Golden Golem whose Golden Fetters aura causes slow but inexorable deflation (making your Company's real debts grow), and who is immune to interest rate cuts; the Trust, a hydra-like beast that is best vanquished by a cunning Public Choice economist; the Debt Lich, kept alive by unnatural market confidence; and the Twin Monster of Stagflation, one of whose heads breathes inflation and one of whose heads breaths unemployment.
your reward for success of course is the adoration of the people, who find their standards of living increasing again where you have liberated them. and, of course, a reasonable percentage of the liberated capital, to invest as you see fit (including in THEORY PAPERS from which you learn new spells). you also earn xp points which you can use to increase your stats, or to write papers arrogantly attempting to apply the principles of your profession to areas way outside your field of expertise.
David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future (2022) is more Greek than Nolan's The Odyssey.
i will forever treasure this omegle interaction
Going onto random cis women's thirst traps and talking up how good they are at tucking like omg nobody can tell it looks so convincing
looking for a cheap calories-dense meal? simply wander into a running stream and stand there, mouth open. the snacks they just come at you
I need Spock the way you invoke a saint he's like my Kim Kitsuragi
This is a technique that is mentioned in the text that established modern chaos magick.
I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly.
I want ppl to get so serious about calling American settlers what they are. Like when people (including settler Americans) complain about Americans or anything else. Like I want it to be so constantly at the forefront in everyone's mind 1) what the problem actually is and 2) that the land doesn't belong to settlers. (Ideally, it belongs to no one, but certainly not them.) Intellectually, sure, you probably understand that America is a colonial project. But I want that admission to be constant and deeply understood, and especially for "Natives" like me to not be theoretical in people's minds...
Roman castration clamp used in the initiation rituals of the Galli (eunuch priests of the goddess Cybele) found in the Thames River, London.
Did you know that if you fall off your bike you can get a special unskippable cutscene called surgery and months of physical therapy?
Imagine that as an already-too-disabled-to-work trans woman in an actual sundown town.
Imagine you lose Medicaid and SNAP since you aren't working or considered Disabled Enough not to.
Imagine watching debt pile up while you have no choice but to use credit cards to get through.
Imagine not being able to reliably get to appointments because your car is too expensive to fix up and your city has no transit (hence, the bike in the first place!!).
Imagine seeing your partner who works full-time as a student struggle to support you while you feel overwhelming guilt that you can't do anything about it.
Please donate and share if you can. Anything helps.
