Great article. The DSA can feel very Trojan-horse-like at times, and I sincerely loathe the misogynoir-like notes in some of their campaigns against black insurgent officers, but this was a great article that laid bare why they are ripping through central Brooklyn and winning seats. If the current establishment had remained true to its progressive energy and remained invested in the people, there would be no DSA power block in Brooklyn.

With a heavy heart, I have to tell you that after a long battle with cancer my husband Kevin Drum passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. No p

Sigh. What is this tumblr that I’ve had for over some years now? I post random shit that I mostly do for documentation purposes. This is documentation for a future version of me: I discovered Kevin Drum within the last year, and he was a breath of fresh air when I was struggling with something I couldn’t quite quantify but I can better do now: desperation for a liberal perspective that was less noisy while aggressively unabashed about this position.

I remember Drum’s last self post, which ended with “These guys are going to kill me before they figure out what's wrong.” And I remember thinking after I read that line: it would be killer if he really did die. And he did. I really loved his blog. I am going to miss his work. I am going to miss voices like his. I wish more voices like his existed out there. But overall I’m just gonna miss him so much. And fuck cancer.

Fun facts about me: I have Big Karen Energy. I realized this because I get very cranky when I see clearly-gentrifying people skipping the subway fare in my neighborhood’s subway. I frown at them, daydream of pontificating at them on how they will always have their Ubers to fall back on when the quality of the subway degrades due to mta having no money. Meanwhile the people who have no fallback on public transit will be stuck waiting for the train. So yeah, definitely Karen energy.

*No but really. Setting aside the massive disclaimer on how public transit should be free and how mta needs to make better use of their money: skipping subway fare when you are a gentrifying person living off a low-income subway stop - when you can afford a backup plan if the trains are not running - is evil. You are an asshole and the worst.

Ok I have decided peak nostalgia for me is working part time at the pharmacy section of Livingston’s CVS while 106.7 FM blared nonstop Springsteen/John Mellencamp.

Speaking of Jersey, the best encapsulation of Jersey living was the Telemarketers documentary. I knew versions of everyone on that show. It made me nostalgic while further complicating my wish to move back to NJ.
