MAE: You have? Thank Merlin. Your arm is staying hidden from view?

MAE: Staying with an injured person.. good way to hide out.

MAE: You could say that. Hitting the hospital really was a low blow, even for you guys. Hope you did not agree with them on that one

“When does this thing end again?” Mae asked the other, an unimpressed look on her face. She had not been able to stop sneezing due to the amount of pollen strewn everywhere, no thanks to the flower crowns on everybody’s heads. “There is far too much colour and joy in Hogsmeade right now and I don’t like it.”

“Do not come near me with that thing,” Mae warded her and her flower crown off with her hands. “It is fucking hideous, I do not care if you made it. If you put it on my head I will hex you,” she said half jokingly.

“Not that I’d rather be with, not at all,” he assured her rather quickly after hearing her choice of words. “I’ll just shoot Maeve a text about the stall. She said she’d let me know if she needs anymore help but it’ll be fine,” Luke waved away the thought as he tried to convince himself more than her. “Technically no, but I don’t eat meat most of the time,” he shrugged. Sure he liked a barbecue as much as the typical American, but he didn’t really crave a burger like most did. “And of course I never ate meat from the family farm,” Luke then added, knowing he’d never be able to live with himself if he had. “I’ll have to take notes then, especially if it is exactly your sense of humor,” he smiled, excited to know a little more about Mae and the things she enjoyed. “Maybe so, but it doesn’t mean I won’t like it. I won’t know until I give it a watch after all, right?” he replied positively, always keen to experience something new.

“Okay,” Mae nodded, deciding to end the line of questioning, satisfied that he actually did want to stay with her. “Because of the animals rather than the taste?” she asked. “That much I could have guessed.” Luke seemed far too noble to ever eat an animal he had raised– you could guess that from just a single look at him. “You are actually going to take notes?” she narrowed her eyes at him, unsure if he was joking or not. “That is true. You may like it after all.” Mae picked up her wine glass and took a sip. “What is your favourite movie? Maybe I will watch that on Halloween this year to switch things up.”

Juniper stared at the other who blocked her way. “Uh, excuse me,” she said to them. “I’m trying to get through. I know I’m new, but I can give you my credentials if you need me to.”

“She can come through,” Mae nodded to the guard at the scene. “You are late,” the blonde quickly followed up with. “Just because you are new does not mean I will forgive you for being late to the post,” she rolled her eyes at the other, already fed up with the amount of new people in the department. She missed the times when it was her and Damien. “What is your excuse?”

“We have a winner,” Alessandra’s response came out dry as Mae guessed what had put her in such a state. “So far this is the only thing that sounded like a good idea right now,” she then said, sipping more from her glass. “I’m too pretty to rot in a cell in Azkaban, Mae. Far too pretty,” Alessandra complained with a pout. “Do you think you could just plead them to assign me a Dementor’s Kiss if they lock me up? I’d rather just go quickly if they catch me,” she added dramatically, the alcohol slurring her words slightly.

Mae sighed, hoping that wasn’t the correct answer but of course it was. “How many of those have you had?” she asked, wondering if she’d have to find a fireplace to floo them both home. “Yes, you are. And you are not going to, Alessandra. I will protect you,” she assured her. How the blonde was going to do that, she didn’t exactly know. “You are not going to end up in Azkaban while I am still alive. I will get you out if I have to and that I will swear my life on that, okay?” she said seriously.

“Kind of, she’s definitely far more hopeless romantic that I am, or probably ever will be. I’m sure you’ll meet her eventually, you’ve seen her designed dresses already, I wore one for the ball,” Sienna replied. “Pink Beer? That sounds horrid. Sounds like some pepto bismol or like fake bubblegum flavored liquid antibiotic type shit.”

“You downloaded a dating app though, so there has to be some amount of romantic in there,” Mae commented. “Oh, was that a dress of hers? It was very nice. I did not know she designed them.” Then again it didn’t feel like she knew that much about Sienna’s past either. “It does. I am sure there will be strawberry flavoured vodka shots somewhere and at this point i will take anything to numb the amount of love in the air.”

“Remind me again why we put up with him…” Everleigh murmured to Mae as they watched Damien. Because sometimes he just did things and it did make her wonder. “You know, he’s lucky he is good at his job.” Of course, she was joking but for anyone who didn’t know her, they probably wouldn’t have got it from the flat tone she used.

“I unfortunately have not got enough evidence on him to get rid of him yet,” Mae told the other with a slight grin to her lips. “I agree though. I do not know how he gets away with the things he does. I believe it is something called the white boy charm.”

The entire wizarding world had heard about the Minister of Magic’s first public appearance in months. Normally the woman couldn’t have cared less but that was until she heard Minister Granger-Weasley’s full address. Most importantly, her approach towards eradicating the Death Eaters at an even swifter pace. Who knew what sort of tactics they’d be using to weed them out? While this put Alessandra on edge, she refused to let herself think about it. At least not yet. 

“What? If you’re going to be a buzzkill you can sit somewhere else. I deserve another,” she scoffed sloppily as somebody joined her at the bar she was slouched over. She was usually very good at handling her liquor, but today she was drinking to numb as much as possible.

“Yes, piss off,” Mae warned at the person who had sat next to Alessandra, giving her signature blank stare before they did as instructed. The blonde took her seat and leant her head on the other’s shoulder. “Are you okay?” she asked. It had been a considerable amount of time since she had seen her best friend in this state, so she knew something really was up. “Is this because of what was said in the Gazette?” Mae wondered. She had just come from a very long briefing about the new protocols in place to help catch the Death Eaters, and the whole time her mind was on Alessandra.

“I actually kind of like that part, that part reminds me of Piper, plus I love the color red… pink not so much,” Sienna replied. “Some of the decorations are definitely a little tacky though.”

“Ah yes, your sister who I have not yet met. She likes hearts and love and those disgusting things?” Mae asked with a shudder. “I have not seen a single thing here that I like. In fact, I refuse to drink that pink beer I have seen going around. I have not seen the Inn’s stall yet though, but I doubt that will be anything different.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t have agreed to do it if I didn’t want to, right?” Luke insisted, although that wasn’t necessarily true. He was the type of person to agree to pretty much everything to keep everyone happy, even if it meant spreading himself too thin. Maeve has insisted he take a break from the stall and he’d just finished catching up with Theo. That all being said, he did genuinely want to be there with Mae. Since she didn’t like any of the attractions the festival seemed to offer and the movies the outdoor cinema were playing weren’t her speed, Luke happily took up her invitation to come over and wind down together with a movie of Mae’s choice. “Scary movies are okay but I’m not to big on gore. While I grew up on a farm, our cows were strictly for their dairy products and never for slaughter,” he pointed out, clearly very passionate about the fact that their farm was a ‘no harm farm’. “Your favorite? Like of all time?” Luke asked curiously, always trying to get to know as much about Mae as he could possibly squeeze from her since she didn’t open up easily.

“Because you keep checking your watch and are very... wriggly,” Mae pointed out. “If you have other people you would rather be with, I do not mind if you want to be with them. It is Valentine’s day after all.” And she really didn’t mind. She would be here regardless of the company, but couldn’t lie to herself and say she wasn’t excited to see the other’s reaction to the film about to play. “No gore, so you will be fine,” she smiled. “Does that mean you are vegetarian?” the blonde asked, unable to imagine a life without eating meat if that was the case. “Of all time, yes. It is exactly my sense of humour and I relate so wholly to one of the characters that it is like seeing myself on screen. They have made a lot of sequels but this one is my favourite. Probably a very different mood to your favourite movie I imagine, yes?”

“Are you sure this is still what you want to do?” Mae asked the other as she sat down with a bowl of popcorn on the sofa next to Luke. Alessandra was... otherwise engaged, and Mae did honestly hated the holiday anyway so was only going to put on a film to avoid all the public displays of affection she’d be gagging at outside. “I have a tradition of watching gory horror movies but I have chosen a less disturbing one in case you do decide to stay. It is still my favourite though,” she said, loading up The Addams Family on the television.

Sienna looked away from a couple intensely making out, looking back over at Mae. “That’s the worst thing about Valentine’s Day, all the PDA is so gross, some people take it a little too far.”

“I want to curse everyone who makes out in front of me,” Mae said, no joking tones to her words. “A small kiss is fine but when tongues get involved– it makes me want to gag.” Of course she was no stranger to those sorts of affections herself but Mae hated seeing them in public. “But you are wrong. The worst thing about Valentine’s day are all the pinks and reds and heart shaped objects in the stores and everywhere you look. It is sickening.”

Sienna set the bottle in-between them when she sat down. “They wouldn’t let me get a bottle of tequila, so I just got a bottle of champagne. Seems pretty festive, but definitely won’t get me drunk, but sadly will still probably get me hungover. Do you get bad hangovers from champagne too? I always seem to. Tell me you’re not working tonight.”

“You couldn’t get tequila? Enna.. I was rooting for you. Damnit,” Mae cursed under her breath. “I have never had enough to drink to see if I get a hangover, but it looks like tonight is the night we will find out,” the blonde grinned. “I am not working. The aurors are on shift tonight.”
