Yeah, I didn't go opening weekend, but I went the weekend after. I was pleasantly surprised, it was really good!

It really is a classic, also a plus that when we do throwbacks like that are it's only $5 for tickets.

As a gamer myself this is really very gamer of you and I appreciate it. I came into this thinking in terms of "Who throws the better punch?" but we've ended up with a full-on threat assessment complete with terrain advantages, extraction routes, and contingency plans. This is amazing!
You make a compelling case. "Get out of the forest" might actually be the best monster-fighting strategy anyone's brought up. You don't have to beat the cryptid if you can simply remove yourself from the cryptid's preferred biome.
Also, I am crying at "or, as could be the case with Polly, eliminating the forest in general." Because that's not an escape plan anymore. That's just aggressive urban planning.
And okay, your Shaggy defense makes some sense. Running on pure prey instinct does explain why he'd never stop to debate the logistics. He's not making calculated decisions; he's operating entirely on, "We're still alive, therefore keep running." I just wouldn't pick him myself. But I get him as a choice now. Friendship, apparently, is the deciding factor in how helpful Scooby is. Which feels weirdly on-brand for a Great Dane.
I love a good strategy, it's important, both in life and in video games. There's a reason a lot of military personnel are gamers, and not just for escaping the horrors.

Oh, I wouldn't pick him either, for aforementioned Polly reasons, but he definitely isn't the worst choice.
So, the junior theater group has just finished their final round of auditions for their summer show at the theater in August. They're going to be doing You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, which tugs at my heart strings a little, because that's the first show I was ever in when I first started doing theater as a kid. You'll probably be seeing a little less of me at the ticket booth or concession stand, since I'll be helping direct them with that. However speaking of the cinema part of the theater, I also wanted to give a heads up that we're doing a Christmas In July movie later this month, on the 22nd and the movie is going to be Home Alone. So be sure to come check that out if you're a winter holidays in the middle of summer kind of person!
I mean, I'm not, but you can't really go wrong with Home Alone, so like... Might have to come see it.
You know, having free time is great right up until someone asks what you've been doing with it. Like, school has been out for two weeks now and okay technically I was still working some of last week, just to finish a few things and submit grades, but other than that? I've actually not done a single thing besides running to the store for some groceries. And I know that summer is only just beginning, but for a teacher, I swear it feels like it's over as soon as it starts. Maybe that's just me, though, because I have so many ideas that the time just flies by. Anyway, how's y'alls summer been going?
Mine has mostly been work, video games, and tinkering with toasters, interspersed with hiking with my dog. Which is what most of my year tends to consist of...
Gotta say, I really don't get more frequent reminders that I'm probably not ready to have kids than I do when I go to the grocery. I was there today just grabbing a few things and I see this kid just bawling their eyes out and, even though I know it's probably just a tantrum because they're not getting their way, my heart starts hurting and it genuinely upsets me. And if that's how a child crying makes me feel when it's not even mine then, phew... yeah, definitely not ready. Not that I'm in a rush or anything, for the record, but still. The curse of being a softie, I guess.
Kids are a certain kind of interesting to me. I'm not against them, wouldn't ever have any myself but wouldn't be against being with someone who does have them. It is hard to deal with seeing them upset, though, so I get that.
I'm so torn on this new Toy Story movie that's coming out, you know I really think that the 3rd movie wrapped things up so nicely and the 4th one had promise, but then they messed it up with where they took Woody's story. I've honestly disliked it so much, I usually refuse to even acknowledge it in its entirety. But the more I see about this 5th movie, I can't help thinking it could potentially redeem the 4th one and so I'm trying to decide if I want to see it in theaters when it opens. But I don't want to waste money if I don't end up liking it, you know?

So Beth is with her dad this weekend. This will be the longest she's even been away from me since she was born and I'm so excited! What should I do first? Sleep in? Watch my own shows? Take a long, hot bath? God the options are endless! I can do whatever I want for the next two and a half days! I feel like dancing for joy!

See, this is why I should have known better than to ask this question in a room full of gamers. I came in here thinking, "Who would win in a fight?" and you've already moved on to mobility, extraction logistics, and contingency planning.
Honestly, though, you've sold me on Polly. "Can survive most things thrown at her and physically carry me out of the forest if necessary" is an extremely compelling argument. That's not a bodyguard anymore. That's an evacuation plan.
Also, I love that your answer to the Shaggy debate is basically, "Dropping you isn't the problem." Which somehow feels worse? Because now I'm imagining Shaggy stopping mid-chase to explain why carrying me is slowing him down while the monster gains ground. At this point, I think we've accidentally determined that Shaggy is only a viable choice if you're already friends with him. Otherwise, you're taking a very real gamble on becoming a cautionary tale.
That's because you have to. When you look at any sort of "who would win" scenario you have to consider all the options and what that means, cos scenario means a lot.
You need both, because ultimately, a monster hunting in the forest is likely going to be weaker outside of it, less places to hide and ambush from. Which means, if the defense doesn't work, you want to be able to go on the offense in a safer way, and either getting pulled out of the forest or, as could be the case with Polly, eliminating the forest in general, is useful.
See, he wouldn't stop, Shaggy runs on prey-instinct, which means you do not stop until you're safe and you do not do anything that could slow you down in other ways, like dropping the person you're carrying which could cause you to trip and lose time. But yes, it very much hinges on being friends with him, for sure.
Okay yeah, that actually helps a lot. I can work with pop and anything with a strong influence like that, so Iāll probably check a few of those out when I get the chance. And it's not really my vibe, so I likely won't check it out, but thanks for the rec anyway!

Okay, first of all, thank you for being the first person to introduce terms and conditions to what was supposed to be a very straightforward monster attack. Because you're right. "Do they keep their powers?" is an extremely important question and honestly changes the entire ranking system.
Also, Polly is a solid answer. The woman survived the wasteland, got a new body, and somehow remained one of the more functional people in Appalachia. If anyone can get us out of the woods alive, it's probably the person who treats apocalyptic nonsense like an average Tuesday. And honestly? The fact that your reasoning is essentially, "I'd prefer the version of Polly with all of her limbs attached" tells me you've put significantly more thought into this than a lot of people.
Interesting Shaggy point. Do I fully trust him not to accidentally drop me next to the monster while fleeing? No. But I'm willing to hear the case.
Like, powers make a huge difference between whether someone is useful or just a bad time.
I'm an ex-Naval officer and a big gamer, I've thought about a lot of things regarding such questions and I'm good at strategy. Polly, especially with her full assaultron body in tact, is going to survive most things thrown at her and navigating the forest won't be an issue for her. I'd struggle on my own, due to old injury, but if it came down to it, I think she could physically get me out of there.
If he doesn't carry you, he's definitely leaving you before OR trying to get you to carry him, which is the bigger worry, honestly. As for dropping you, while possible, I think if he's got you in his arms when he starts running you'll be fine.
Exactly. We'll just quietly rewrite the rules and nobody has to know. If anyone asks, we'll tell them twenty years is simply "recently pre-owned" and not vintage at all.

There are no wrong answers. Except choosing Shaggy. Because he'd leave you behind and you'd both know it.
This depends entirely on whether they retain any of their powers/abilities or if I'm relying entirely on pure physical prowess. Shaggy might not actually be a bad idea because he could, reasonably, pick you up and bring you with him, but it definitely would be a risk. However, think I gotta go with Polly from Fallout 76, post-new body, if only because I don't trust just her head to get me out of there all the way.
