Well, yes, it should have been, but it never was, was it. When Butcher invokes her in the finale, it felt hollow to me, in part because Butcher lost any right to speak on her behalf the moment he tried to bait her son into murder-suicide. But also because the show has been treating Becca purely as a plot device instead of a character in her own right for five seasons. (Becca Butcher probably deserves an honorary spot in the Dead Ladies' Club.) So this just felt like a cheap way for the writers' room to superficially close another loop. That only works if you put in the work before the finale.

He doesn’t care about Becca’s wishes, he cares that Becca was taken away from him as a result of Homelander (twice I guess).

The word “my” is meant to convey affection, but also emphasizes Billy Butcher is angry about his Becca— the fun, sex loving, weed smoking, not having complicated children and family dynamics wife—being taken away. If he cared about Becca period, if he was avenging her having to live in a compound for 8 years for example, he wouldn’t have used Ryan being a suicide biobomber as his plan A to kill Homelander, as you point out.

It’s fine. Billy Butcher can be a selfish character. Just don’t expect the audience to absorb his words as self-aware and true.
