just saw someone calling out CR for blocking someone who had been harassing them for weeks to make a post about Palestine.

how is that our business + outrage who they block for harassing them?

what kind of parasocial relationship is it that everyone’s fave creators HAVE to take a strong stance publicly on their creator page?

i didnt see this kind of push for every single creator/person to denounce a country during the beginning of the effective genocide of Ukranians.

CR has nothing to do with the conflict and frankly it’s OK not to have a strong public opinion! What happened to “I’m not well enough informed about X and so I’m going to stay out of a discussion?” I’d much rather they not engage than force them to make a statement because we believe we’re owed.

We don’t know them. And frankly, humans aren’t equipped to handle dealing with every of Earth’s tragedies (or the online fallout for any possible stance they could take)

Adding onto this, because this is still such a thing—whenever someone exhibits this kind of performative activism like when i see “ew why aren’t you boycotting X they support palestinian genocide??” online

First, boycott is not common knowledge. not everyone is in the position to boycott. boycott is also not something you can or should bully people you don’t know into doing. It should be a personal choice like vegetarianism. you can encourage it, uplift it but you can’t slap meat off somebody’s plate. i boycotted for ukraine, i never once felt like i should control someone else’s wallet to make them do the same.

There’s been a ukrainian genocide for three years. Burma, south sudan, ethiopia, and syria are also facing genocide. i sure hope everyone casting stones about someone not addressing a genocide they have no possible relation to is also boycotting/keyboard-activisming for any and every other major atrocity

#but i didnt see this for ukraine #and i spent 6 months constantly updating my feed #watching the russian troop movements everyday #i got so sucked in it was not good for my mental health #and in the end it didnt do a thing for the ukrainians #people aren’t made to deal with this kind of parasocial tragedy mongering #theres actually a very interesting article about this kind of thing but ive talked too much already
