reblogging because the issue here is also one close to home - but with crocodiles. Whenever there’s a croc attack, authorities seek out to destroy the ‘pests’ to appease the public, not knowing (or choosing to close an eye) to the fact that crocodiles attack humans because their territories are being encroached by human settlement as well as lack of food due to overfishing/ development in their waters. There’s almost always no follow up actions taken to solve the issue in the long run, only cosmetic and short term solutions, which is very disheartening. Hopefully issues like this make people realize that culling wild animals due to isolated incidents without proper research on the consequences and effect on the environment - doesn’t really do a damn thing, except push them further to extinction.
