Entrepreneur in Residence Lunch & Learn
Being a newly developed entrepreneur, my main focus is to grow my business. Though one of the most valuable facts of business often eludes me. In this case, learning my positioning statement. What’s my focus for my clients. So I may provide the right value. These are things we think about, but perhaps not in the amount of depth as it should be. The speaker of the day was from a good friend, Michael Quill of Affinity Strategic Marketing, Inc. Which is a great solution to improve your marketing and grow your business. Again, these are strategic values.
To share again, a simple business strategy in knowing your positioning statement that really is about cutting through confusion about who you are and what you provide. As the business owners of our own empire, its easy to know who we are, what we do, and what we’re about. Sadly our core audience, the people who need us may not know entirely the full picture.
To master your positioning statement, a entrepreneur is essentially learning the good old fashion elevator pitch. That being said, a position statement is a short and sweet summary of your business and what you’re providing.
Zion Port has helped a large number of clients to succeed online by delivering leads through effective internet marketing. Our strategies include: professional web designs that convert, impressive advertising campaigns and powerful SEO services for local markets.
Entrepreneur Niche Gone Wrong
When you think of your position, always keep in mind the solution you are here to focus on. Don’t think too hard, always keep it simple. When you’ve taken the time to learn more about this, you kind of know how to improve your business. Now keep in mind, a position statement isn’t something that’s written in stone. One of the downfalls of many businesses is that they aren’t willing to flex accordingly to the trending markets. Then when they do its often too late.
Look at Blockbuster for example how they’ve not been able to keep up with the demand of the consumers. For example, Zion Port didn’t offer Facebook Advertising as a service when we first began. In fact we didn’t have Web Design either, but we knew our clients needed these services to be able to win more leads for their business. So we’ve tact this on.
Also keep in mind, try not to veer from the beaten path. If you’re a business that focuses on a particular niche, its best to be the authority of that niche. I see business try to broaden their market, and branch into things that are beyond them. Burger King for example, with the word “Burger” in their name you expect o arrive at a burger joint. They now serve hot dogs. In hopes to capture some segment of people that might actually be into this. Will it work, does it work? Its hard to say.
Another poor example of this is a security software I use to buy back in the late 90’s that was really amazing at thwarting computer viruses. Its a software called, “Norton.” Eventually they started to branch into computer maintenance as well, which seemed to thin resources. Which made their software in my opinion to perform worse than ever. Eventually myself and many others, mainly tech experts would be called in to fix many of the problems the software itself created. Why not just stick to security only? The niche is an important one we all agree on that. Let us the consumer find another software entirely on maintenance only. Again, going off of the beaten path doesn’t always yield good fruit. It may do more harm than good. It goes back to the old adage, “Jack of all trades, master of none.”
McDonald’s is a fine example of how they haven’t necessarily compromised, but transitioned to keep up with the trends. Seeing how people were becoming fans of gourmet coffee, and wanted premium blends from Starbucks. They knew that the tides were changing, and managed to stay ahead of the curve. As they seen Starbucks was a office away from office, McDonald’s shifted to accommodate that as well, and are relevant in a business space. Again, not losing their core focus on delivering great sandwiches.
