Saw this on Twitter and wanted to share.
Blindly loving something makes you ignorant to it's flaws.
Blindly hating something makes you ignorant to the possibilities
love like this...even when it hurts, every part of this is worth it
I'm feeling rather conflicted today. See, years ago, I had this idea of a crossover genderbent retelling of Beauty and the Beast x Cinderella. But, I shelved it because I could never really figure out how to make it work. Now, years later, I see that somebody has managed to succeed where I failed. I was a bit sad but, not angry, or even jealous. Maybe sad that it took me so long, but truth be told, I am very content with the story I have now. My personal webcomic Phaneron Phantasie, which I am currently developing with my heart 100.10% full set on it.
I even ordered the Cinderella x Beauty and the Beast book because I legitimately want to read it for its own sake. I don't feel regret, more shock and maybe a bit of relief, if I am being honest. Relief that somebody else managed to succeed where I didn't.
I currently have another idea Arthurian Legend x Anastasia, but I'm struggling to find the motivation for it, to be honest. My webcomic is somewhat of my own Arthurian retelling, even if it doesn't share character or location names, the spirit of the legend is what fascinates me, not simply rehashing it again. My webcomic needs so much love and attention to be well written, but what do I do about my Anastasia Pendragon idea?
I now no longer know if it's something I want to pursue anymore. Sometimes I get ideas that are good concepts but my heart isn't set on completing them. It's why I wanted to give up an Avatar AU for adoption. I like creating ideas, but I don't mind it if others wish to bring it to life and make it their own.
The love between Katara and Aang
Something I love about Kataang is the slow burn of it, like they are allowed to be friends first, lovers second, and that is just really cute, like I feel like a lot of shows, in the Cave of Two Lovers episode, when they first officially kiss, I feel like a lot of others stories would have now made them a couple directly after, but that isn't really how it works, a kiss doesn't fully mean, now we are dating. And the way they both process their feelings is so nice to see, as they have two different ways to view it.
Aang felt the need to make his feelings known. He wanted Katara to know he loved her and wanted to know if she felt the same. With the war and the fact that he might die, he wanted to get that out. That way, if he died, he wouldn't die with any regret on the subject. Katara, I feel, how she viewed it as: there is a war. We won't have time to dwell on this, as starting a relationship in the middle of everything could be viewed as a distraction from the mission, and just add a extra thing to worry about on top of all of it, because what if she had agreed to date Aang during the Ember Island and than he died in the final, it would just make it more painful, or maybe even, it would surve as a distration with would make her mess up. Like, had the invasion during the black sun worked out, I could see them getting together, but because it failed, and so much shit happened between then and Ember Island, they didn't really have time to talk about it.
I might have gotten one or both characters wrong on this, but I just honestly love how they came at the whole relationship and love from different viewpoints, and both are correct and wrong in their own way. You can see why Aang would want to get it all out before he might die, but also why Katara would want them to only focus on ending the war for now; the other can come after, which it did. I also love the fact that the last scene of the show takes place a couple of weeks or months after Zuko's coronation. I got both when trying to look it up. But that. I really love that they waited for that for them to be a couple, because it both shows Aang, after his messed-up kiss, learned from it and clearly never pushed Katara into something she was unsure about until she felt ready, and it is realistic to want to wait for thing to get a bit more stable before she commit to a relationship, something that to some people are a really big deal.
This was my face while reading the most bogus words put onto a page.
Some Zutara fans genuinely scare me.
Like, I love y’all that just want to ship them because you like the idea of Zuko and Katara, because heck yeah ship who you want (within reason of course).
But I just unfortunately saw a page full of the most ridiculous posts just tearing down Aang as a character, yet worshipping Zuko.
Like I’m so confused? Aang is genuinely one of the kindest, sweetest and funniest souls in the show. And while he isn’t perfect, which he never claims to be, he always has good intentions.
Whereas Zuko, who I love, is so much more toxic than Aang ever was. I love Sifu Hotman, but that man struggled to regulate his emotions, constantly lashed out physically and emotionally at those close to him, and constantly struggled to do the right thing.
Like I can understand critiques of Aang’s character, but suddenly one bad thing Aang does is 1000000% worse than the literal history of bad behaviour Zuko has behind him.
It just makes me sad how people desperately twist and manipulate and destroy such a well-written character but make excuses for another 😔
If Zuko or any of the Gaang saw the way ya’ll spoke about their boy, they would be disgusted with you.
Justice for Aang fr.
(Fixed the tags I hope!)
If you were actually around during the makorra era, the “Makorra fans were uniquely toxic” reputation feels pretty revisionist, especially when a lot of the conflict involved makorra shippers themselves getting harassed or driven out of spaces. I’m not saying makorra shippers weren’t toxic, but I never understood why that reputation disproportionately stuck to makorra when the fandom conflict was clearly coming from both sides, and arguably got even more toxic on the korrasami side. What makes it even more ridiculous is that even after the makorra fandom had largely disbanded, korrasami shippers were still dragging the ship and its fans for years, continuing to egg on the same bullying and hostility for nearly a decade despite the makorra fandom having been gone for years. And the criticism of the ending wasn’t really about homophobia. Anyone would’ve been caught off guard if their ship had been put in that position. So technically, I wouldn’t even call it a war. It became a “war” because people were upset that everyone wasn’t clapping for bryke over the last minute decision they made at the end. lmao.
Makorra tienen el permiso de colorearlo! ;)

Finally I Done The First Part Of Final Scene And Them Part 2 Its Coming Out Soon.
Wait thus is actively making me tear up WHAT THE HELL😭
When the fans have more passion and ideas to this franchise than your company than you now you did something wrong
More cute underrated little kataang details
Katara holding onto and hiding behind Aang when she’s scared while they’re at the fire nation festival
Katara holding onto Aang’s wrist when she’s scared during the storm
Katara instinctively reaching for Aang when she’s scared again in Ba Sing Se
Katara fixing Aang’s collar aughhh they’re so cuteee
Underrated and funny little kataang moment
Aang is mad as fuck here but he just lets Katara use his shawl to wipe her tears completely unbothered by it lmfao 😭🤣 he looks over like oh ok anything for you queen even when he’s pissed all the way off. Does she do this often? Lol
I'm a Zutara shipper, but I'm actually really excited for Kataang in the new movie.
So Kataang is having a moment thanks to the new movie ( which I haven't yet seen because I don't have Paramount, but I will find a way!!!!!😭) and honestly, I'm really happy about that. Because here's the thing even though I do ship Zutara, I never really disliked Kataang, and I didn't understand the hate because they still had a very meaningful relationship throughout the show.
When I first watched Avatar the last airbender back in 2015, when my family could afford more channels, and it was reruning on Nickelodeon I actually stated out shipping Kataang because friends to lovers was and still my favorite romance trope.
However, after Zuko and Katara's moment in crystal cave in Crossroads of Destiny, it did get me thinking... what if. After Southern raiders thats when I really got into the idea of then as a couple ( they are literally the only non cacon couple I've ever shipped to this day btw ) but I still knew that Aang and Katara where going to end up together and after the ending I was conflicted. Because I still liked Kataang, but I also liked Zutara, and I was very split.
I do lean more towards Zutara because I think thematically they could've been an interesting way to go. Zutara was also the first time I fully understood the enemies to lovers trope and it actually got me to analyze all the different types of ways to write romance in stories, whether there main plot or secondary plot and how that ties into character arcs and the themes of the narrative.
In my opinion, both Zutara and Kataang have things about their respective relationships that have good reasons why different people ship the different pearings and have their own viewpoints on romance both in fiction and reel life that will reflect that.
For example, if you prefer soft and sweet romance that developed thorough friendship or a passionate and electrifying romance that developed when characters need to look past, both their preconceived notions about each other, both of those are valid. My favorite romances thend to have a bit of both.
This was also the first time I engaged with a fandom online, and as someone who liked both ships and seeing the shipping war... whoah! I feel like I don't need to elaborate because... well, if you're in the ATLA fandom, then you know what exactly what I mean. Even if you're not a shipper, you know.
The only real criticism I have with Kataang is that I feel like their romantic arc in season 3 could've been developed a lot better, compared to how the season developed Zuko and Katara's relationship which even if it wasn't romantic canonically it still had a lot of romantic undertones and the development of emotional intimacy between them was just so well done.
But I knew the minute that the Legend of Aang was announced that we were going to get some cute adult Kataang moments, and from what I've seen and heard so far ( I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers yall don't even know! ) I was more than correct on that. I think because we actually get to see Aang and Katara in a romantic relationship in the movie, not only is it so validating for the OG Kataangers, but also hopefully it will change some fans few point on there relationship now we actually get to see it ourselves. I'll have to wait and see the film myself if that's true or not.
Zutara will continue to persist, and I still love Zutara, but I'm also really excited to see Kataang in this movie because they look so cute.
(Also, if what I hear about the live action ATLA show is true, it is possible that we could get Canon Zutara??????????? Don't know if I believe it will happen... but if it does happen... that's going to be a very interesting day. I don't really care about the live action, but I might just watch it to see for myself if Zutara does actually happen.)
zutara vs kataang ship discourse is literally exhausting on the level that voltron ship discourse was why are they all convinced their ship is the Moral and Correct one and the other ship is Evil and Misogynistic
deeply obsessed with these guys and the haunted look in their little bunny eyes
@become-mop
One of the images you linked from that ship said Zuko was looking at Katara with a... rape face... and I'm thinking, WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, WHY ARE YOU TREATING THAT AS HOT, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, although people have their fantasies and kinks and all, but stuff like that should be saved for fully consenting couples, but also, WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, THIS IS A CHILDREN'S SHOW.
Reminding me of the posts I see about how children focused media tend to have really... rabid fanbases, see the bronies...
Yeah, that was pretty prevalent in their ship fandom back then lol. I mean, as if all the zutara rape fanfic and slave fanfic isn’t proof enough. That’s literally how zutara became a ship. They saw the scene of Zuko tying Katara to a tree and sexualized tf out of it. People forget that the majority of ZK shippers back in 2005-2008 were either older teenagers (like 16-18 yrs old) or actual adults. The majority of kataang shippers were younger children
Imo, that’s one of the reasons the ship war was so bad for kataang shippers. We were getting bullied and harassed by people much older than us, and people we weren’t equipped or prepared to defend ourselves against because we were so young and most of us had never even shipped anything or been in a fandom before. I distinctly remember regularly getting sent death threats by ZK shippers that were like 25 years old and I was 10 😭 it was brutal omg
If you aren’t an OG ATLA fan, be grateful tbfh. Be glad you weren’t a part of the fandom back then. Because they literally ran kataang shippers out of our own fandom, and they pretty much held the ATLA fandom as a whole hostage. Like we were actually scared of them lmao, so many kataang shippers from back then have similar experiences to what I had and were afraid to even say they liked kataang because there used to be a time where if you said that online you would be dogpiled for it
People forget that ATLA was one of the first fandoms to have a ship war like this, zutara vs kataang is still like one of the biggest and longest lasting “ship wars” in internet fandom history. Where other fandoms had ship wars where it was private and pretty much contained only in the fandom space, the ATLA fandom transitioned how ship wars played out because there were internet platforms that hadn’t existed before. Deviantart, youtube edits, etc. It was just different and you just had to be there.
