“I suppose I just like to think the best of things.” she told him simply. She had to think positive if she didn’t she’d find herself in a rabbithole of fear where she didn’t know if she could climb out of her paranoia and trust nearly anyone. “We just saw a young vibrant girl killed in front of us. I think acknowledging that we could die at any point is the only realistic approach. It won’t change how I live my life.” she said though that was a lie. Seeing and knowing people were dying forced her into the life she was in now but she wouldn’t let anyone know how deeply she was affected by it all. “Why is it funny.” she said wincing at the thought of being called out for being a muggleborn. Even if he didn’t use the slur his tone made her feel like she was being judged just for who she was. “Merlin do you sound like a Gryffindor.” she teased. “Honorable doesn’t matter you’re still a body in the ground. Dying for good or bad or dumb reasons doesn’t change anything. You’re still dead.” she told him shaking her head knowing how many of even her friends disagreed with her on that statement. “Yes. Herbologist by trade but they’re kind of my obsession and I love learning everything I can about them to make potions and spells that can help people.”

“ I don’t.” He said truthfully. He didn’t see things with a nice outlook. He always expected the worse out of people and things, maybe not his family or Henri, but he held his breath around them, waiting for the shoe to drop. “ We were always going to die at some point, why is seeing a death different than knowing the truth?” Maybe because he saw a death as a child, he was always aware that death was always around the corner. “ That you don’t think the war is worth it, when you are a muggleborn, the war is to save your life, and lives like yours.” He said. “ A Gryffindor? And here I think I could like you, but comparing me to a Gryffindor?” He joked. “ We can agree to disagree, there are better ways to die, yes in the end you are dead, but I think in my final moments I would be at peace knowing something, or someone is better off thanks to my exists.” He took care of animals, he wanted to better their treatment and life even if it cost him his. “ What is it about Plants that you draws you?”

“That’s what I have Falkor for…” He nodded toward his bird who was perched on a shelf at the other end of the room. The bird knew no bounds. He didn’t care if this wasn’t his home or not. He would do what he liked. “I make him chase….” He grinned a bit, bringing his glass to his lips for another sip. “I understand… The pros and cons of being a halfbreed…” He frowned a bit, looking down. “–to be blamed for something you have no control of.”

Kit looked over towards the bird, he didn’t even noticed it in the bar. “ Ah, A Parrot. An African Grey? Right?” He loved animals, but he wasn’t sure if he was too sharp with Non-Magical animals. “ I don’t mind the chase actually, I have to get my cardio in somehow.” He shrugged. “ So what are you then? Veela, Vampire, maybe Werewolf?” He asked. “ Sometimes I think it would be easier to play the part they so want me to play. Be the dangerous monster they want me to be.”

“They truly are, but that is what makes them fun…” He chuckled a bit, thinking about Emyrs’ niffler. How often was Falkor having to go find him now a days? He almost grinned at the mention of Kit being a Veela. “Really? Now that is fascinating… What is it like?”

“ That is true, there is nothing better than chasing one down the road at 3 am.” He said with an eyeroll even if he believed his words to be true. “ What is it like? I suppose it doesn’t have to be too bad. Make people do things for you, have more magic, being hunted, accidently harming people, it’s the life.”

She decided not to argue meaning with him. She didn’t know if he would understand that her feelings were her responsibility and not his. “No but still there has to be plenty of them that aren’t.” she said knowing the offices did have some but she had just wanted to trust. “It’s the realistic approach to it. Being scared of death and dying just…isn’t worth it.” she said and thought when he said the thing about the war. “I think that’s a personal question. I don’t really think any war is completely worth it but at the same time there are people drastically affected. People who might get murdered whether they pick a side or not and for them fighting is the only option. I’m not saying to welcome death but live your life cause it will hit you no matter what.” she said thinking about Marlene for a moment. “I mean you’re not wrong about that but I could be a powerful witch.” she joked as she side along apparated him to an alleyway a block down from the greenhouse.

“ I’m sure there are plenty that aren’t, but I’m not sure if there is enough, we can only hope I guess.” He really wanted to stay out of the war, it wasn’t something he could handle, as much as he played as if he hated everyone and didn’t care, the opposite was true, he couldn’t be there and see anymore people he care about die. “ If that is what you call realistic, I fear for your fantasies, but to each their own.” He didn’t care for the topic, or a discussion. “ We are strangers, what is there to fear to tell me something personal. That is funny coming from a muggleborn.” He added. “ Some people would like to die knowing they made a difference, or die doing something honorable. But a drunken tumble is a nice story, I suppose.” He teased, though you wouldn’t know it from his tone. “ You could be, but you are not.” He said as he let her apparate him away. Once they got to the alleyway he thanked her. “ So do you work with plants, then?”

He couldn’t help but chuckle and nodded. “That was probably a bad question, my apologies…” He listened as Kit managed to pinpoint at least one that he had always liked. “Nifflers are very fun…” He agreed, taking a sip of his drink. He resisted the urge to frown at the idea of wolves. “They are very misunderstood creatures.” Both the natural ones and the werewolves…

Kit shrugged, “ All is forgiven, it’s probably the number one question I get from people.” And while the question was getting old, he didn’t mind answering it, since it gave him the opportunity to change the answer. “ Nifflers are little demons, but I like that about them.” He said. “ They are, maybe that is why I like them, I can relate to them, being a Veela myself.”

She was reading in Hogsmeade when she smelled Kit in the distance. The mixture of creatures’ essence made him unique to her, and when she looked at him, she almost smiled briefly. “I should say that your scent is better today. Sit down. I ordered some baked potatoes to eat; I think you may be hungry.”

“ I did make sure to take at least 2 showers before coming to see you.” He stated as he took a seat across from her. “ Didn’t want to put you out.” He chuckled. “ I am not hungry, but I do think I will order a tea. How have you been?”

She almost shook her head. “You can’t apologize for my feelings.” she said simply. “Either way though you really don’t need to apologize to me at all.” she told him “He might be in office but having so many aurors and hit wizards in one place. Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t get all the death eaters arrested.” she said simply. She frowned. “That’s pretty dumb logic. You’re going to die anyway. No matter the precautions we take. I’m not saying you should go out and get drunk but living your life only live as long as you can just seems silly.” she mentioned with a shrug. “If you trust me then take my arm.” she said with a nod.

“ I am physical capable of doing such a thing. I did it.” He stated. “ Okay, I won’t.” He would rather not have to apologize. “ And you think the Aurors and Hit wizard office is free of death eaters?” He said as if she was insane. His own brother was an Auror and he believed it. “ Either that are they are all rubbish at their jobs.” He said, though he didn’t care to get into it. “ That is sad that you think that, though it isn’t untrue. So you are saying there is no point of fighting in the war. We are going to die anyways.” He countered. “ I don’t trust you, but I do think I could take you in a duel.” He stated taking her arm.”

Kit didn’t dream, he didn’t even remember when he stopped dreaming. He even forgotten dreaming was a thing, until someone would bring it up. He was eleven the time he realized he wasn’t normal. He went to sleep, it was blank and then he woke up, and then at breakfast his brother mentioned his latest dream, he asked him if he had them every night. The whole table looked at him as if he grown another head. By Twenty-fire he was used to the blank, emptiness. He looked forward to it at the end of the day. It was almost peaceful, before the dreams stop he had nightmares.

“No no it’s fine. You don’t need to appologize to me ever for saying something honest.” she said putting on a smile. She shook her head. “Honestly same. I just thought last night was a safer night. What idiot makes a spectacle in the middle of aurors and hit wizards. Insane ones I suppose.” she said trying to joke. “You know I’m glad to hear someone else on my side with drinking alcohol. Normally I get told to let loose or something.” she said simply. “Owl me whenever. I know some really good muggle greenhouses that have beautifully taken care of roses that I can show you.” she told him excitedly. She really was too overexcited about plants.

“ I’m not apologize for saying it, just for how it made you feel.” He was spending too time with Emrys and he wasn’t a fan of apologizing to people, or caring if he hurt their feelings. “ Really? With Lestrange in office, I figured something like this would happen. They are a dramatic crowd and where better than at a costume party.” He would do it that why if he was into dramatics. “ People die when sober, why make it easier when you are drunk.” He nodded. “ There is no time like the present.”

“Oh.” she said softly frowning a bit. Even at 22 she still hated being brought up with her sister as if that had anything on who she was. “I mean…sometimes. I really don’t normally I just…had dumb reasons.” she admitted. She really shouldn’t have let herself but she was feeling a bit sorry for herself. His words though made her feel like crap. The two times she really got drunk bad shit happened and it came to her spiraling self thing that blamed herself for every bad thing in her life. She smiled. “If you need help I can help you get some nice ones and good potting instructions.”

“ Oh, I shouldn’t have said that.” He didn’t like people only knowing him because of his grandfather or his siblings. “ I don’t drink often, and never to get drunk, it’s best to always have your wits about you.” He stated. “ Though you are an adult, do whatever you won’t ignore me.” He always gave his opinion when it wasn’t needed. “ I wouldn’t be opposed to help.”

“Just being sure. Not everyone wants to go by one of their first impressions on a person.” she said. “I was tipsy. Probably leading into drunk.” she admitted. “But I wasn’t fully out of my mind.” she said as she took his hand to put the plaster on it. “I don’t to be honest. You’re right about that. I generally stick to a small group of people but sometimes it’s good to let yourself loose for a night.” she said softly before carefully patting his hand. “That’s sweet. Why not get her a potted rose though. Miniature Roses are gorgeous. Then she can always have a rose.” she said smiling.

“ I don’t care about first or any impressions, to be honest you didn’t make one on me either way. Though I do know your sister, that is how I know who you are.” He stated. “ That is good to know.” He said. “ Good to let yourself get drunk? I don’t think that is accurate at all. When you drink and get loose, people could end up hurt.” Or at least in his case it happened. “ I will have to look into that, it will make up for me being back in the country for 2 months now and not seeing her.”

“You could use my name. Violet. And I wasn’t that drunk.” she said as she moved over to him reaching out but not touching him silently asking for his hand. “Plants generally don’t like to be grabbed just like we don’t.” she said softly as she reached into her purse to pull out a plaster.

“ I know what you name is, miss Hastings.” He said. “ And you were at least tipsy, or do you normally ask people to dance with you?” He asked. He rolled his eyes, but held out his hand anyways. “ I am aware of that, but my grandmother loves them, and I always make sure to pick them myself for her.”

“Do you not think Dumbledore would be good with the creatures? Hagrid always does take good care of the creatures on campus and as I recall, he always had a special touch when it came to the care of the more rare breeds.” But the trust in particular wizards didn’t exactly go well in regards to all of Hogwarts. There was bound to be a handful of them that were hiding markings on their arms, and it was a bit sickening to consider if any children were in harm’s way.

Even if he knew he got under the man’s skin most of the time, Emrys was glad to know that he had someone like Kit in his life. Sure, it was considered more ideal to be near persons that were of the same disposition, but he couldn’t quite see himself being able to keep up a smile all the time. It was easier to know there was someone that didn’t mind if the act fell away for a moment. And Emrys was reminded of it now as he winced at his own stupidity.

“I’m sorry.” He felt guilty for how reckless he was letting his thoughts become. Of all the people in the world, surely he was the last person anyone would think of as being suicidal. But, then again, no one ever predicted that he’d have to say goodbye to someone he saw as his other half. “It just feels like I don’t have the rest of my limbs most days. She was a lot like a piece of myself.” He sighed, feeling his mask falter as he shook his head.

“The world needs help, Kit, and adding more people like me would hardly aid it. Muggles fight and now Wizards are killing one another. I worry so much about the creatures that I numb myself to the idea that I’ll see another friend or loved one in a casket.” It would kill him if he had to bury Kit, and god forbid if he ever had to see Violet dead. Emrys would never recover if he saw her dead and gone from his life, she was one of the few beacons he could cling to. Even Scarlet was someone he couldn’t dream of losing.

“You’re a good man as well, Kit. You never listen to the praise you deserve, but you’re kinder than you want others to believe. And you hide because it’s easier to do that then to get the constant disappointment of how people can let you down so easily.” Emrys shrugged, “But, I see how you look at the creatures, and how they reach to you for comfort and help without question. I may be a thorn in your side most days, but I really do see you as a great man. I just pity the people that will never get to have you in their lives, because I know I’d never find a friend like you again so easily.”

Kit rolled his eyes, “ Dumbledore seems to have a lot to deal with, and handling creatures with care doesn’t seem to be one of them.” He understood the war was important, he stood up for justice for people, but creatures deserved the same. “ Hagrid is still around? I wasn’t aware, that does settle my mind a bit. He loved without fear, which is rare to find in someone. Though I suppose you are the same. You love and care for creatures even with they are classified as dangerous.”

“ No don’t be sorry. Is much as I don’t care for feelings and talking, if I am someone you can be comfortable with saying these things, I don’t mind it. I rather you talk it out, work through it, than keep it in. You need someone to tell you that you are a good man and worth and mean a lot to people.”

“ I know I have said this before, but I am truly sorry for your lost, I know it is hard, but we must live on for the people we have lost. Let them live on through us. She would want you to be happy, to go on, and if you must, come drink with me one day to forget all your troubles.” He really wish he could offer more, but he didn’t have more.

“ The world has always need help, people just chose to ignore it, until some decided they were to sway things more their way than the other. And haven’t you heard things always get worse before it get better.” He said. “ Worrying will do nothing but give you wrinkles, stop worrying and do. Take action, do everything you can to make sure you don’t go completely numb, or bury anyone else you love.”

“ I do not hide, people are a disappointment, I learned that a long time ago. I am not a good man, I’m an honest man, and I may not always acknowledge it, but you are my friend, so of course I am there for you. I am more creature than human, I connected with them more than I have ever with people, it is different.”

Hannibal couldn’t say that he had been an innocent man, but it had certainly been humans that had destroyed him. Becoming a werewolf had saved him, except even after that humans tried to destroy him again. He took a deep breath, keeping his thoughts in his head. “What is your favorite animal?”

“ What is my favorite animal? That is like asking a parent who is their favorite child, but I always liked Niffles, I was given one when I was a small child, my first companion. Or wolves, always liked them, apparently too much if you ask some people.” He said.

It wasn’t often that Kit got out and was around people, but he always had a love for flowers and plants. To him, it went hand and hand with caring and loving creatures. He was in the field picking flowers humming softly when he grabbed a rose, getting a thorn stuck in his fingers. “ Oi, son of a bitch.” He groaned.

Violet spent far too much of her free time with wildflowers. She loved them and she wanted to nurture them and see how they reacted and grew. She hadn’t expected to hear someone here and her head popped up frowning when she saw the man. “Pardon are you alright.”

Kit jumped, hearing someone speak to him. “ ah, it is you. Drunk girl from the Halloween party.” He said, looking down at his finger as it started to bleed. “ I have just stuck myself, the flowers way of telling me to leave it be in peace.”
