"My friend was coming to visit someone, so I decided I'd join him," he explained.
“That’s a cheering thought. Is it just for a short visit?”
@Hektor’s Diner
“Is Chicago always so….interesting?”
Magnolia laughed a bit. “Yes, I’m afraid so. But not always so negative in its chaos.”
"Oooo! This is really good!"
"I thought you might like it. It's not too sweet, but definitely takes the edge off of the alcohol."
Magnolia steadied herself, catching Gendry's gaze and blushing a bit. She'd been caught out in one of those moments where the rest of the room seemed to have disappeared. But some part of her was glad that it was Gendry who had noticed her.
"Sorry, I was getting a bit swept up in it all," she explained as she walked over to him. "Although maybe you'd like to join me?"
"That's sweet of you to say," he replied with a smile. "I can't believe we didn't either, and not just here in Chicago. We must have been like ships in the night at least a few times over the centuries,"
"I mean it though. You're both lovely on your own, of course, so it's only natural that it should be amplified," Magnolia replied, looking over to Adeline. "Well, you both have traveled a lot, so it's no wonder if that was the case. But everything does come about with a unique sense of cosmic timing, I like to think."
"I didn't have to think too hard on who I'd come as in the end,"
"You two are rather darling, you know. It's a wonder you didn't meet sooner."
Magnolia twirled a bit, sending sparkles of blue light around her dress.
"Hmmm, no I think I'm definitely the one at fault here," he said nodding, like he'd come to the conclusion after seriously considering the situation. Like a cupcake display could have actually possibly been at fault. "Thank you," he gratefully accepted the wipes. "What? Oh, no. You have nothing to apologise for! Heavens. I'd like to be able to say this is an unusual occurrence for my but as my friend likes to say, sometimes my head and my body don't communicate well,"
Magnolia's smile only deepened with an added amusement at his assessment. "Even so, I wouldn't blame you for it. That could happen to anyone," she reasoned, gently taking the now icing-stained tablecloth from its place and laying it on the floor. She knelt down beside it, starting to collect as much of the mess onto the cloth as she could before resorting to mops and the like. She did look up as the warlock spoke though. "If you insist, although I will feel somewhat responsible if the icing ruins your lovely coat. That would be a shame." His friend's words made her laugh again. "I see. I used to be a great deal more clumsy than I am now, but I think I've grown out of the worst of it... or so I should hope."
"But all your hard work. The looked so lovely," she lamented, taking the cloth from the fae. "Thanks," she started to wipe off spots of icing but paused when Magnolia suggested she sit now. "No, I should be the one cleaning it up," she insisted.
"Definitely just the first I hope," she said with a small laugh. "I think I need a very large, surgery coffee if this day stands any chance of being salvaged," she started to collected the bits of cupcake that had managed to make it an impressive way from the disaster zone. "It's my own fault for staying up too late last night, but enough about my silly little problems. How's your morning been?"
"You're too kind," Magnolia began, kneeling down and brushing up bits of cupcakes into the dustpan, "but it's just cake at the end of the day. I can always make more." The insistence on cleaning resulted in a soft scowl from the fae towards her friend. "Don't make me get cross with you."
"Hmm, I could potentially help with that. I'm not opening for another hour anyhow, so maybe after we clean this up we can pop by Poppy's for a caffeine fix?" It wouldn't go amiss for her either, admittedly. She'd been up a little too late trying to adjust the recipe for her new lavender buttercream, but it still was evading her. "You and me both. Although I do hope it wasn't for anything troubling," Magnolia replied, casting Mallory a curious glance. "Rather quiet. Although I suppose I should expect it out of the late Sunday morning routine, shouldn't I?"
She looked up at the sound of the laugh. "Magnolia," she greeted with a smile. "Oh," a laugh of her own escaped as she noted the book in the other fae's hand. "Great minds indeed," Wren scooted up, making room for Magnolia. "It really is a perfect reading spot isn't it? Especially at this time of year,"
"It's a great haven for that sort of thing. Especially when I'm given to rereading my Jane Austen books. Think it's just the perfect amount of a romantic in a secluded spot," Magnolia mused, holding her book to her chest in a slightly exaggerated gesture. "Don't let me interrupt you though, goodness!"
"Oh blimey..." Asher tried to catch the cupcakes as they came crashing to the floor. He managed about five of them but the rest fell with a squish, smearing frosting on the floor. He blinked down at the mess, an unhappy flush rising in his cheeks. "Sorry!"
"Don't be silly, there's no need to apologize. I've actually done the same thing a time or twelve," Magnolia admitted, grabbing a bit of kitchen roll and cleaning cloths she had sitting spare. "Are you alright though?"
"Uh..." He blinked at the scattered cupcakes. "Yes?"
"Are you sure? I have a first aid kit if you're injured at all."
"What are you laughing like that for?" He demanded sourly. "You're the one who set them up so wobbly in the first place!"
Magnolia gathered herself then, a bit of a sheepish smile on her face. "I likely didn't center the display. My apologies."

Magnolia laughed a bit as she stumbled upon the other fae, holding up her own book in her hand. "Great minds think alike."
Gendry looked down at his frosting covered trousers and shoes, "It appears I've ruined your display quite spectacularly, I do apologise,"
Magnolia bit her lip to keep from laughing further, but the amusement surely did play out on her features. "Alternatively, my display has ruined your outfit quite spectacularly, no?" She mused before bending down to find her cleaning wipes behind the counter. Once she'd retrieved them, she walked over to the warlock, handing him the packet. "You have my apologies as well."
