I've been off of Tumblr for a good while, and coming back and then encountering recent trans discourse... like what the fuck happened?

I'd always been familiar with transfeminist and transmasc-feminist discourse but my IRL connections and even some online spaces seemed absent of the kind of animosity that Tumblr has had recently...

I do see anti-transmasculinity play out in IRL queer spaces in very subtle ways , and I've always been critical of cultural feminism (i.e. the belief that femininity represents an ontological good and masculinity ontological evil) in the larger queer community, but the amount of trans women on here that say the most vile things imaginable about trans men in the most misogynystic manners possible... and the increasing mistrust in trans women by trans men as a result, it's genuinely heartbreaking.

Like I saw a post from a trans man saying he doesn't like or trust trans women by default because we're prone to anti-transmasculinity, this kind of tension is absolutely foreign to me as someone who's been in the community for 11 years and it makes me think about how patient all the trans men I've known have been, and makes me sad because I thought we'd be better than cis folk, that we wouldn't devolve into such tribalism.

Many moons ago when my mom was in around 6th grade in her Catholic school and there was a talent show. She wanted to sing the song The Devil Went Down Georgia but the teacher hassled her so she went to the principal and they came to the compromise of she could do the song but not have the word "Bitch" sung. So when she got to the part where the swear would be she had her friend who was playing the music pause it and she stared at the teacher for a moment before continuing.

IMO, blurring the lines between “I’m defending them because they’re right” and “I’m defending them because you’re taking this too far” is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracy–even in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic. 

Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and it’s also extremely dangerous. Mobs don’t think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they can’t be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isn’t someone defending the ~problematic party~ It’s time we re-learn that.
