1.) That's not what materialism is. "Making things better for people" is literally idealism by definition. Materialism refers to the actual material ways you can improve people's lives.

2.) Bodily autonomy, justice, [legal] equality, etc, are all broad concepts but can be established in ways that will materially improve people's lives.

3.) I'm sure I'll be accused of rape jacketing but holy shit how is this not just explicitly pro-rape rhetoric.

4.) Claiming to be a materialist but not valuing bodily autonomy, which is ome of the major examples of material conditions (ownership over one's actual material fucking form) is absolutely unconsciousnable

The Life is Strange fandom on Reddit is using the announcement that Kate will be played by a black actor to say that the show never should have been made in the first place. Like ffs it's only just started filming, there's no way to tell if it's good or not, and why should an actor's skin colour determine if their portrayal of a character is bad or good?????

Also they're just complaining about it in general, which i suppose isn't surprising considering they'll complain about literally anything.

ofc there could be some valid points to make when it comes to an overrepresentation of minorities suffering in media and i saw some genuinely meaningful discussion and opinions being shared from people hoping her character would be handled in a complex and 3 dimensional way. but most of the comments of her casting are just explicitly racist and horrible omg

so! For the first time in my life i actually finished Life Is Strange. The good news: I didn’t cry. The bad news: I really, really wanted to and I honestly feel like I should have waited to play it before engaging in the fandom because the spoilers took some of the shock out of the experience.

Yayyayayay!

But yeah, I tried my damn best to not engage with anything around the games when I played through them, it did really help my experience and is probably the reason why the first Life is Strange has since become my favourite videogame of all time lol (surpassing Terraria, which i have almost 900 hours on...)

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't cry either, but I think that's more so down to all the testosterone that's still in my body than anything else (i yearn for it to go away). I was just really super mopey for the next 2 days straight after finishing it.
