Coughing up blood doesn't make sense for 99% of injuries and illnesses in fiction but it's HOT and I think the sexiness of whump outweighs the medical accuracy most of the time. I WILL die on this hill and I will be coughing up blood as I do so.

i don’t think mangakas realize how easily the dark-haired brooding side characters get so popular exactly because there are so many loose ends the fandom can tie up on their own and that’s only increased by said character not being involved in major romantic subplots or narrative conventions. that’s how the levis and byakuyas and itachis and trafalgar laws of the anime world advance as fan favorites because the creators write them with the ‘main character fate/pressure’ off. then again they should all stay unaware of that effect so we keep getting our fill of troubled blorbos with the good hair please
