It all started from choosing the right clothing and models to picking up the perfect places and props.
I looked through viewfinders, captured everything I see, and recorded it all down with my camera. They stayed in memory sticks, and then were moved to my computer hard drive, eventually being completed on papers.
Just as Ayanami said in The End of Evangelion (1997), “it is a continuation of reality. It is at the end of your dream.”
I was deeply moved and felt a great sense of relief, comparing to how frustrated I was to digest the feelings that I received at the very first time I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Photography has helped me clarify my reflections on it. However feeling relief, as I mentioned, doesn’t mean the end of it.I still feel the emotions that I had with Neon Genesis Evangelion at the very beginning.
The difference is that I can now perceive them in a much calmer way. Those feelings give me the urge to pick up a camera and frame them out into photos. To me,it is so natural that it’s like breathing; as long as I’m still alive, they will always live in my heart and my mind.
To me, those impacts from the scenes and sounds in Neon Genesis Evangelion had imprinted in my life and, thus, became a part of me. Even though I feel for those characters, I’m not good at discoursing them in words and paragraphs.
Due to the way I process my thoughts in my mind, they’re more in the shape of pictures and sounds than in words.
To express it out more clearly, I choose to bring photography to combine with words. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
How do I tell abstract through printed words? I’d like to think of the answer of this question as the reason why I take photographs.
In the world of comic, animation and even Cosplay, everything comes and goes faster than ever in this generation.
Sometimes, it’s mostly about idolizing and beautifying characters. Although I fully realize how far I am away from the main stream, I am still determined to make this photo collection for Neon Genesis Evangelion, a Japanese Animation classic that was first broadcast on TV in 1995.
It is still pretty scary though, when you’re the only person here doing the things you want to do. Still, Sticking to the things I want to accomplish while holding on my principles and ways I want it done is always the most important part of these whole things. It shall never change. If one receive information from many different sides instead of one, there must be many things for one to discover from not only events but also characters or even more.
In my opinion, stories that stay in our minds for a very long time must had touched a part of our souls or memories.
Moreover they might had changed us, and pushed us further to grow and transform.
This is why Neon Genesis Evangelion impresses me so much. I am deeply moved by this master piece. I find fine papers and printings, put them together in rather simple yet meaningful way, and present this photo collection.
