if the extent of your criticism of aoyama is that he put a bell on ichigo then dni oh my lord.

1, he was joking

2, it’s not like he thinks he genuinely owns her

3, he was worried about her, but was slowly figuring out she was a superhero while deciding to give her the space to tell him in her own time. the cat bell was to hint at that before it was fully revealed, but also… he was just teasing her about running off all the time without trying to sound overprotective. never in the series after this point does the bell represent masaya’s possession of ichigo, but rather ichigo’s loyalty to masaya.

4, masaya has never had someone he truly respected before, and he had every right to be worried when the one person he felt like truly understood him kept being flighty and not communicating with him very well. even if she had a valid reason, he was being abandoned with little to no warning several times.

5, ICHIGO LOVES THAT BELL SHE THOUGHT IT WAS SWEET.

6, you cant say masaya is abusive bc of that and then turn around and ship ichigo with “ichigo is my toy” quiche.

7, while i dont rlly like it, there are pet play jokes throughout the series surrounding the girls bc theyre,, yknow,, animal mutants,,, so it’s not just a masaya x ichigo thing.

like dont pmo and learn to actually analyze characters.

He's lightening the mood after they both feel this stress and distance from what happened today. They're both depressed and on-edge after an already-confusion outting.

Especially since these feelings are a first for both of them, and feelings in general are a first for Masaya.

They're awkward teenagers who are falling in love for the first time (in Masaya's case, connecting with someone at all for the first time), and the awkwardness and clumsiness and inexperience are portrayed well in them

It's a cheesy little joke to lighten the tension from someone who is not at all used to sincerely interacting with another human being, but he at least knows that the two of them share a love of animals and that Ichigo is very cat-like and enjoys a similar style of ribbon to this cat's (and who doesn't see much different between human accessories and animal accessories).

They were worried about how they got separated, so this is silly and straightforward way of communicating that they still want to find each other in those moments.

It's the sort of uniqueness that makes them work, they match each other's weirdness and sincerity quite well.
