As part of the Olin College SCOPE program, worked on a team of six college seniors in a year long project. Designed and prototyped novel user experience in HTML5 to increase learnability of Autodesk professional software. Prototype is under NDA, but you may view the final poster.
In my Investigating the Theory and Application of Applied Matrices course, I decided to study the linear algebra behind search engines. My first project was a paper on Google’s original PageRank algorithm. It was intended for students in an introductory course on linear algebra.
For my Computer Networking course, I worked with three other students to build a classroom instant messaging and file-sharing application that would allow a one-to-many connection from professors to students and a one-to-one connection from students to professors. We used multicasting to reduce the bandwith of the messages and files sent from the professor. We used UDP as our transport layer protocol. Since UDP is not reliable, we added our own loss-detection and retransmission layer on top. Watch a video demo of our app's messager and file sharing capabilities.
While working as a UX intern, I redesigned site navigation and implemented a new sign-up process for inboundmarketing.com. These pictures show a small piece of the final result.
I had just moved to a new apartment, and was constantly looking up directions on my phone. It would have been a fine solution, except I was usually biking while doing so. I wanted to create a safer option for people who use their phones to give them directions while biking.
For my Tangible User Interfaces course, I worked with two other students to design a system where a user could look up directions on their (Android) phone, and then safely store it in their backpack. The phone would communicate over bluetooth to a microcontroller, which would cause either the left or the right glove to vibrate to indicate a right or left turn approaching.
I was responsible for the gloves, and sewed in a microcontroller, LEDs, and vibrating motors. I also programmed the microcontroller in C so that it would control the operation of the LEDs and motors, and helped create the interactive mockup of our "app".

In my Principles of Engineering course, we were tasked with creating a product that has a significant electrical and a significant mechanical component. I worked with two other students to build a Wii-fit like balance board that a user could stand on to control different applications. My responsibilities were programming a game and a Google Maps launcher that would work with input from the board. For more details, check out the project website.
I worked as a front-end developer intern and implemented a redesign of their site using HTML/CSS and Django. Feel free to email me if you'd like some code samples.
For my Human-Computer Interaction course, I worked on a team of four students to design a new infotainment system for Acura in a project sponsored by Honda. We focused on designing a system for a car that has multiple drivers. Please check out our mockup: we have a video and an interactive one!
In 2008, I wanted an iPhone more than anything. For my Software Design project, I wanted to build something that would let "dumb" phone users access a small portion of the functionality smartphone users had. Specifically, I wanted them to be able to see if they could buy an item for cheaper online while they were in a store.
I worked with two other students to build an app that let users could text message with the barcode number or barcode picture of an item they wanted, and then receive a text message back with the price and vendor of the three cheapest places to buy the item online. I was responsible for taking a barcode number and returning the price list, and my teammates were responsible for the text messaging part and the image analysis. I worked as the product manager for SeeqPod, a music search engine. I managed feature timelines/dependencies, designed user interactions, and created functional requirements documents and wireframes for the engineering team.
