Pokeball I made in 3DS Max.
Final short film as shown at the exhibition a week and a half ago.
This animation is a brief emotional exploration of the sadness and emptiness born from profound boredom.
Stanley Kubrick - The Shining
Deep space in cinema. Perspective, the eye is drawn to the back of the room guided by the sinks and stalls, lines. There’s depth in the image.
Andrew Stanton - Finding Dory
Shallow Space in cinema. All the visual information is on the surface. The image is very flat.
Lighting for Sci Fi room for Arturo
More fonts I’m looking at for my film
Looking at fonts for my film. I want something simple but not too simplistic.Â
Textured background made for Yvonne’s class made by inserting textures and also textured brushes I created from pictures in Photoshop. The sky was coloured using a gradient.
More textures. Some around town, some softer textures in college

Colour Schemes
The colour palette of my film was mostly greys and greens and blues with red in the street scene. Â Triadic colours. I used mid tones and tried to stick to basic greys to make the greens and reds stand out. The colours were a mixture of saturations.
Professional Practice
Three things I learned at the Dingle animation festival:
- Don’t sell yourself short. You have more potential than you realise. Everyone goes through periods of feeling inept, it doesn’t pass, you just have to learn to work with it.
- There isn’t a language barrier problem in studios with workers of different nationalities as most of them run through English. Lack of proficiency in other languages will not prevent me getting work in other countries.
- Toonboom is being used by many companies and they have studios in several cities in different countries and it’s easy and common to switch between studios. This is definitely a software worth learning to use.
What I learned about animation in a local/international context:
The industry is really opening up in Ireland at this time and we’re entering the industry at the right moment. Many large companies are outsourcing to Ireland and there are more jobs than people to work them.
While the USA and Canada animate mostly using character rigging, the majority of Europe are still hand drawing animations frame by frame. The UK and Ireland are mostly following the USA and Canada but also do an amount of hand drawn.
Knowing other languages is not a requirement for working in other countries as most studios run through English and have many nationalities working in them.
Toon Boom is a software worth learning, it’s the most popular 2D animation software at the moment.
Toon Boom have a studio in Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam and I would like to live there for a while.
Assignment 13. Lip sync.
Colour Palette for the first scene and character of my film
Looking at how her face changes expression in the first 10 seconds of this video. Very interesting. It’s tiny changes in her eyes and how she relaxes the muscles of her mouth.
The latest assignment for Arturo. Using taper and bend modifiers and colour changes.
