Elliot expected before you even came, he was ready to catch you as you fell onto him, his embrace was warm around your shivering body.
You didn’t understand it. Your closest friend had cut you off, years of friendship broken in a long winded text message and a blocked number.
It wasn’t the first, but this one hit hardest, the number of friends you had slowly dwindling down. Even worse, each of them seemed connected, like all of them were in on a secret that you weren’t aware of.
Countless times had you turned to him, begging him for help and comfort.
Not knowing that the very man you turned to was the cause behind your tears.
Deep down, a part of him felt almost guilty for his action. NNormally, he would never have done this.
Elliot knew it was wrong — to treat you so much differently than the others. Although it wasn’t truly different, after all, he helped you just as much as he did to everyone else.
The difference came in the payback.
Everyone who knew him could attest to his endless generosity, his willingness to do everything and expect nothing in return — everyone except you of course.
Not that he wouldn’t do everything for you, no, in fact, he would do anything you asked of him. But for the first time in his life, he wanted something.
Elliot knew that there were better ways to go about this, that at the end of the day he was still hurting you — but was it so wrong if he could simply save you after? What was the harm in breaking you if he could always just put you back together?
There was something adorable about the way you ran to him for every inconvenience, his heart racing in a way that did for no one else.
He thinks he would do anything to keep you there, in his arms, begging for his guidance. He’d be lying if he said this wasn’t his desired outcome.
“It’s ok,” his gentle voice whispered as fat hot tears ran down your flushed cheeks, “let it all out.” You were sobbing inconsolably, “Cry for me, baby,” and who was he to blame you?
He felt his heart tug, his stomach twisting in a way that he hadn’t felt in any other situation. It was addicting.
“I’ve got you,” he hushed, his hands wiping the wetness from your face, your eyes shiny and glazed over as you sniffed, looking up at him with so much despair in your gaze he almost felt bad.
“I’ll always be here for you,” he promised, his words lifting you up the way they always did, “I’ll do whatever it takes if it means we’ll be together forever, my sweet.”
You didn’t doubt his words, not when he pulled you close to him, his shirt stained and damp in your tears. You couldn’t see it from your position, but his eyes were dark, and if not for his gentle smile, you would’ve thought he looked deranged.
Elliot was sorry. He truly was. It hurt him to see you like this, to see you so caught up on people who didn’t matter in the end.
‘I’m sorry, honey,’ he thought, his hands carding through your tangled hair, ‘but you made me jealous. They had to go.’
