Democratic presidential candidate to release bold plan as rivals vie to set out green credentials during crunch week for global talks at Paris summit
Bernie Sanders unveiled his sweeping climate-change platform, which references the Paris climate talks but also looks beyond them, to a 2°C warming target. The Democratic presidential hopeful from Vermont plans to implement policies to cut US carbon dioxide emissions 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050. Initiatives would include a carbon tax, eliminating fossil-fuel subsidies and massive investments in renewable energy. The plan would also increase fuel economy standards for cars and maintain the ban on crude oil exports.
