grounding techniques, ok 5 things i can see. I see bricks, I see mortar, I see a trowel, I see a cask of wine, I see that asshole Montresor glaring at me over the top of the wall…
No but seriously imagine it:
You’re seeing fall out boy on a concert. Everyone is having a great time. Fall out boy seem a little excited. “We have a surprise for you guys.” Partick says. All of a sudden P!ATD come out and start singing “this is gospel.” When Brendon gets to the chorus, someone else starts singing… “When I was a young boy my father took me into the city to see a marching band.” Lights flash everywhere, and you see FOB singing “this is gospel” along with P!ATD, while MCR is singing “Black parade”. Everyone in the crowd is going wild and crying. Then if things couldn’t get any better, Dan and Phil walk onto stage and kiss, holding the gay flag.

One thing I appreciate about my cat son is that if he, who knows how it feels to be trapped in a room, so much as begins to suspect that I, his father, am trapped in a room, then he will immediately do everything in his meager power to rescue me

Savory Yuletide Pie
An all-veggie entree that can be made with fresh or canned fillings, depending on how labor-intensive a dish you feel up to making.
Ingredients:
2 - 3 tbsp olive oil
2 - 3 cups cooked vegetables (choose from: onion, garlic, carrot, bell pepper, celery, potato, mushroom, sweet potato, winter squash, turnip or rutabaga, parsnip, broccoli, brussels sprouts)
1-2 cups cooked additional vegetables (choose from: frozen peas, frozen corn, canned tomatoes, canned beans, chopped kale, cabbage, mustard greens, turnip greens, broccoli rabe, chard)
Suggested Seasonings:
Chopped fresh parsley
Pinches of dried herbs (choose from: thyme, rosemary, sage, basil, savory, marjoram, or combination)
Sea salt & black pepper
1 tbsp unbleached or whole what flour
½ - 1 cup vegetable broth
½ cup shredded cheese (optional)
Pie crust (handmade or storebought)
3 cups cooked mashed potatoes (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 F.
In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil and add any combination of the diced vegetables. Saute until tender; the cooked mixture should measure 2 - 3 cups.
To the sauteed vegetables, add any or all of the additional vegetables, to measure 1 - 2 cups when cooked (remember that greens will reduce in volume). Cook briefly to wilt the greens and heat frozen ingredients through.
Season with parsley, dried herbs, and salt and pepper to taste.
Sprinkle the mixture with flour. Stir well and simmer for a few minutes to allow the flour to cook, then add the vegetable breath, stirring until moist and thickened. At this stage, you may also add the cheese, if desired.
Place ingredients in a prepared round deep-dish pie plate. You may use a bottom crust, a top crust, or both, or no crust at all. If you decide to go crustless, top the pie with about 3 cups of cooked mashed potatoes.
You can cut or carve a symbol into the crust or potatoes, if you wish.
Bake your pie for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden, and serve.
Serves 4 - 6.

Baked Apples!
Hey all, sorry I’ve been MIA recently. I think I finally found a direction for this blog.
But anyway! Whole point of THIS post is to post the Baked Apple recipe I made a bit ago for my bestie, Bree Landwalker. She made promises and noises to post it, but I’m sure she’s been distracted from doing so *COUGH* SO it falls to me to post it.
Ingredients: 4 Apples, your choice (I prefer Gala apples, but Granny Smith, Fiji, and Macintosh all work just as well. If the apple isnt flat on the bottom, slice off a ring of it to flatten.) 3 tablespoons of golden raisins 3 tablespoons of walnuts 2 tablespoons of Craisins (you know, dried cranberries) 3 tablespoons of honey (I like Buckwheat honey, from the Bee Folks at the ren faire, because it gives this a smoky sort of flavor, but again, this is up to you. Cranberry honey, Orange Flower honey, and your basic Clover honey all work.) Cinnamon sugar, to taste 1 container of Whole Cloves
1. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Wrap a baking tray in tinfoil, and set aside. 2. Wash and core the apples. Set them evenly on the baking tray. Make sure they are flat on the tray. 3. In a small bowl, mix the raisins, walnuts, craisins, honey, and cinnamon sugar. 4. Stud the apples with the whole cloves. Use as many as you want. It’s easier to stud if you use a skewer to make the hole first, then put the clove in. 5. Fill the holes with the raisin walnut honey mixture. If it overflows the top, that’s ok. Dust with more Cinnamon sugar, if you feel like you want to. 6. Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. They should be fluffy on the outside, to fluffy all the way through. 7. Enjoy your delicious apple treat! be careful, it’s hot!
If you don’t understand what I mean by “fluffy”, it can also here mean “Fork-Tender”.
A recipe for delicious baked apples from my Nen!
Do you know any traditional Celtic dishes for yule? Everything I found so far is just generic Christmas-y treats and someone adding a star or something and calling it Celtic.
Indeed I do, my friend! I have three lovely cookbooks in my collection which I highly recommend on the subject:
Celtic Folklore Cooking (Joanne Asala)
Witch in the Kitchen (Cait Johnson)
The Food and Cooking of Ireland (Biddy White Lennon & Georgina Campbell)
Celtic Folklore Cooking includes an entire section in the index on dishes for Yule. The Food and Cooking of Ireland has a number of feast-worthy recipes, and a very informative foreword which describes the holiday traditions celebrated in Ireland today. Witch in the Kitchen has a lot of tasty vegetarian options for any occasion year-round.
Dishes for Yule include:
Apple Fritters
Baked Apples
Chestnut Soup
Chranachan
Christmas Plum Pudding
Eggnog
Faerie Cakes
Hot Buttered Rum
Irish Stew
Marmalade Loaf
Mulled Cider
Pan Haggerty
Roast Goose with Stuffing
Savory Yuletide Pie
Shortbread
Stuffed Acorn Squash
Stuffed Braised Beef
Tea Brack (aka Barm Brack)
Wassail
Stay tuned, I’ll be posting the recipes for all of these throughout the day!
