i fear a lot of folks didnt realize a win isnt him going free because was never gonna beat three trials, a win is also lowering his sentence from life to 10 years, he already did 2, he will be in his 30s when he gets out. He will still have a chance at life, work, family, children
THIS! 🙌
Don't come at me but I'm one who believes the government won't let him walk. So 5-15yrs is better than life wop.
And history was made - happy day of issuance day to everyone who celebrates 🥰
I hope the state case ends in a mistrial, that way the federal case will convict (if found guilty) first on a technicality regardless if state went first
This is just my rambling I know very little about law, but if anyone here does, does that make sense or not? I'm a Dr not a lawyer.
Well Dr, that would be great if the state ends in mistrial because people have been saying that they think he can beat federal.
think this is important and shouldn’t be ignored
"I am disturbed by what the government is doing to you," the donor wrote. "For them, it was and always will be about protecting the 1%. Head up, Luigi. We are right here with you."
Luigi Mangione's legal team is back in court in New York City this week for a key pretrial hearing. He's accused of stalking and killing an
omg i never thought they'd use the mentally ill defense i assumed they knew it wouldn't work wow he must be really fucked if they have to you insanity defense
they’re not using the insanity defense.
insanity defense: requires a proven, severe diagnosed psychiatric disease or defect. it is a legal argument where a defendant admits to committing a criminal act but claims they are not legally responsible because of a severe mental illness or defect at the time of the offense.
EED defense: focuses on the human emotional state rather than a strict psychiatric illness. it asks the jury to consider whether a "reasonable person" in the defendant's shoes would have suffered an overwhelming loss of self-control.
This made me emotional. I hope he knows this ❤️🩹
“Or he's just embarrassed because he's no longer a hero in the eyes of the people”
You people are lazy af expecting one man to save yall. He lit the torch, and now it's up to others to carry it. At this rate Americans will never have universal healthcare. Just sit on your ass and complain all day 🙄
He did shine the light on the healthcare system. Thank you Luigi 🥺
“Kaitlyn has already allude to him being unstable so ..... it's ur own fault not believing her lmaoo”
So you guys want people to believe a theory that has yet to be confirmed? A defense can use an EED defense if it’s their greatest weapon. You should’ve taken a role in the defense team
I never though he was mentally ill but under extreme stress, maybe. Only because we know about his accident or accidents.
K. wrote the whole story of his back problem, speaking about it with compassion and remorse for not having known how to help him, and said she had never felt as loved and seen by anyone else as she did by him. But I also remember, (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't feel like going back to look for the posts right now), that she had also written that in some ways he had verbally abused her by continuously pushing her to improve herself, for example by reading better things than what she chose, making her feel like she wasn't enough, and that going forward she would stay away from white boys. I also remember a post of hers on Reddit with a vaguely feminist undertone, in which she talked about how a man who shoots out of anger or emotional issues is more accepted by society than a woman who reports abuse, if I recall correctly, in reference to this very situation. Furthermore, when she was trying to contact him she wrote that she had no intention of saying or doing anything that could hurt him, as if he (at least from her perspective) had reason to expect something of the sort.
Now, I have the utmost respect for her and I can imagine that the end of their relationship, in that way, must have been genuinely painful to process, and it's entirely normal and understandable that it may have led to a certain emotional instability as well. I would never dream of delegitimizing her or judging her relationship with him. But I think it's important to remember that of this whole story we only know her version, and I'm not implying that she lied, but there are always different perspectives to a story. And from what she has written on the subject, I get the impression that she herself has gone through different states of mind and points of view regarding all of this, which often collide with each other, and that she herself is not the most shining example of stability (and I repeat, she would have every reason not to be) and therefore that she does not constitute an authoritative voice on the stability of someone else, especially someone who, willingly or not, caused her pain. By this I don't mean that what she says isn't true, but that it certainly shouldn't be taken as gospel.
Hi lav!
Today's news prompted me check every single Luigi community and so I came back. I start to noticed a pattern and wanted to talk about it.
Saying the act happened in the midst of a emotional disturbance doesn't mean Luigi is flaking, changing his mind or that he actually doesn't think the healthcare industry sucks. To me it confirms something we already knew and lengthy discussed, that he was struggling. We all have these type of thoughts, of things we want to change and I'm sure Luigi was already thinking about these same things, but it was his allege deteriorated mental health that pushed him to do it. I don't think this changes the message, and remember, we also have his letters and is very clear he still cares.
He got his point across and now he's fighting for his life, and it's ok if he doesn't fit certain vigilante stereotype anymore, I still think he does tho.
He is very resilient and I hope everything works out for him.

btw I agree with your take here https://www.tumblr.com/lavenderishhaze/819692480135053312/oh-my-that-hearing-was-a-lot-long-po
Omggg Pep come back we need you 😭
And yes - I wholeheartedly agree with everything here.
It’s expected to see people already critical of him to be like “uh oh - guess he wasn’t a hero after all” - but it’s really disheartening to see actual supporters (on other platforms) posting negatively about today’s news.
As you said, nothing really changes his stance on the matter or the overall message - and that’s why I hope (and think based on the tonality in previous motions) that the health insurance industry will still be a central focus for the trial.
I feel like they can still argue that the ideas might have turned into an actual action because of emotional disturbance - but that the idea came from a real place of injustice that a majority of Americans are forced to experience.
Didn’t they even say in that Dateline documentary that the police got calls from so many people suspecting others for the shooting based on the fact that they had been fucked over by United Healthcare?
I feel like that’s proof enough that the industry is deeply flawed and the villain of the story is not Luigi 🤷♀️
there's too many people who're extremely worried for the federal case after what we learnt today and i'm just openly saying that none of those people understood exactly where the federal case stands, after January of this year
the feds cannot meet the statutes no matter what and everything else is irrelevant compared to that, they don't have a case and no matter what other legal procedure goes on in other cases, it doesn't negate the fact that the feds simply don't have a case because they cannot reasonably prove the statutes they'll be required to prove
on the plus side, EED would obviously put the healthcare industry on trial and depending on how well the average Manhattaner can afford healthcare, the jury might actually hang (i'd say this has a higher probability than with just reasonable doubt). chances of nullification are as always very low given the other facts pertaining to the state case and even if the jury doesn't hang, Luigi's lawyers are doing what every lawyer is supposed to do, act in the best interests of their client and logically their actions so far have been at par with what we expect of them even tho it seems otherwise to us because we're dealing with this quite emotionally, to be frank
can people stop spreading misinformation and inform themselves before speaking. no claiming extreme emotional disturbance is not the same as claiming insanity. this doesn’t mean he’s crazy.
here’s a document that breaks down and explains what and how EED defense works.
“the decision as handed down contains an enormous logical inconsistency.”
The search of Luigi Mangione's backpack was ruled partially illegal - in the same way the Titanic partially hit an iceberg.
BREAKING: Luigi Mangione's NY state case hearing could not appear at the hearing scheduled today because prosecutors failed to serve necessary documents to have him transferred from the federal custody (which they have been doing all this time without any issues). The hearing has been rescheduled for tomorrow morning.
Further explanation. State Prosecutors need to: 1. Get a Writ of Ad Prosequendum (an order to obtain temporary custody of an inmate for court proceedings) from the state judge 2. Deliver the said writ to the Warden of MDC Brooklyn (federal facility, where Luigi is held) - for some reason prosecutors failed to do this.
