The course is getting into the stuff that I really enjoy: all kinds of relatively simple ways to decorate our accentuate gates, rails and other work.

I made Klang!

With magnets for wear as a lapel pin. Idk anything about Pokemon but he seems cool

The two smaller gears were machined from aluminium, finished by hand.

The rough shapes of the larger gear, the insert on the face of one small gear and the bracket were LASER cut from steel and the engravings marked out. They were machined or filed to final shape and the marks engraved deeper with a rotary tool.

There are two small dome ended shafts which hold the gears and some brass bushings and washers which were all turned.

Everything was press fit together and the bracket bent to final shape

Hand scraper with carbide blade, Jarrah handle, patterned after the one from an old Stefan Gotteswinter video. Machine tool rebuilding here I come!

A fun project for a rainy Sunday last weekend, then made the handle this evening. Nice to have it done (except the blade), I've had the material ready for ages.

Process photos of making the clamp. Both sides have a step to locate the blade, the clamp is bent down on the other end to pivot around. Bonus cameo from my recreation of the tap handle from ToT's Operation: Tap Wrench video

Some more process photos of milling the tang and roughing the handle blank. The timber is Jarrah, native to Western Australia, tool marks left in from the spokeshave and knife for texture.

Some may call this junk. Me, I call them treasures

A bucket made from salvaged French oak, steel bands and sisal handles, finished with linseed oil. This is my first attempt at any kind of coopering and was all done by hand; I haven't checked if it's water tight yet but the joint at the bottom isn't great so... Probably will get a pot plant in it rather than be used for water.

Plates and bowl made from the same oak, laminated into blocks then carved, finished walnut oil.

Cleaned and lightly restored one of my indicator stands, an old eclipse 901B

I did a little when I got it years ago so it was functional but moves more smoothly now, it's a nice solid construction and great to use. I considered a prettier restoration, repaint the bits that used to have paint and polish the rest, but decided to keep it quick and easy for now as it is user

Small pedal board in French oak from salvaged floor boards, ebonised, linseed oil then shellac seal. Dovetailed corners and rebates for the top boards cut by hand.

This project had been sitting around with the joinery cut but not assembled for ages and I've finally got back to it. This was my first time attempting the vinegar and steel wool ebonising thing and it came out alright but not amazing. It doesn't show off the figure in the timber or joinery very well but it's an interesting finish that leaves the larger grain texture visible.
