“What do you think?” Calla patted on her new haircut, her hands grasping for the ends that weren’t there anymore. “I felt like I needed a change and this seemed the easiest.”
Tori reached up to tug on one of the strands of her hair. “I like it! I like it a lot. We’re almost twins now!” There was a soft smile on her face as she reached up to pull on her own hair as well. “How are you doing?”
“I’m… okay.” She took a deep breath. “Could be doing a lot better but also a lot worse. I still keep checking every shadow, especially when I’m with Aria and it’s just ridiculous.” Calla shrugged and looked down.
“Yeah… Fix is a mess, though he’s doing his best to hide it. We didn’t really think of her as a target and now that she’s so important to them…” Tori played with her gloves. “Maybe it’s time we move. I love New York, but… but they know where we are.”
“That’s what I told Aaron and Destin. That maybe it was time for us to find another city. They just said I needed time. I think our group is too big to move now.” She nodded in agreement.
“Yeah… there are too many roots in the ground now. And I… I’m kind of happy for it though. I always ran before and I’m tired of it. I just don’t know how we’re supposed to fight these people.” Tori pulled her friend in for a hug and she squeezed her friend tightly. “I’m sorry they took you, Calla.”
Calla closed her eyes at the hug, her end just as tight of a squeeze. “I know it’s been enough time for me to want to feel okay but I think with Aria in the mix, it’s gotten me so turned around I don’t even know how to feel.”
“I’ve been there.” Tori said comfortingly as she pulled back to lightly fluff Calla’s hair. “Feelings can be a fucking confusing mess and you might never know how you should feel, but you can’t let that... you can’t let that tear you apart, yeah?”

“Yes!” She hissed the word out and grinned. She allowed Tori to drag her back to the bar, putting in the order for both mozzarella sticks and the macaroni wedges along with another two shots for both girls. Calla took hers in quick succession and nudged her friend to take hers.
Tori took a moment before easily downing both of the shots. “You’re so tiny, how do you hold all that liquor?” She asked with a giggle, though she really wasn’t much bigger than her friend.
“What silly things can we talk about?” Calla narrowed her eyes in thought as she patted Tori’s hand and waited for their drinks. “This is harder than I thought it was going to be.”
“It is when you’re actively thinking about it.” Tori laughed as the two shots were put in front of them. She was quick to order their next drink before picking up the shot. “We’re going to have dance at some point, you know that right?”
“Hmmm….” She took the shot after carefully tapping the glass to Tori’s. “We of course will dance! We will always dance. We could be 90 and coming out to the bars and dancing.”
“I like the way you think, Calla.” Tori giggled as she leaned lightly against her friend. “Sounds like the perfect future, to be honest. If we live that long, we…” Tori stopped, remembering that it was very likely her friend would live for forever. That was verging on a serious discussion. “I mean, when my hip starts to go out, I might not be able to climb up onto a table to dance, but you know I’m going to while I can.”
“We don’t have to dance on tables! Just as long as we can.” She took Tori by the arm to go find a corner for them to dance in. “As long as we can move, we can dance!”
Tori laughed as her friend dragged her across the bar. “But dancing on tables is fun.” She joked before twirling her friend around. “Just as long as no one else tries to dance with me, we’ll be good.”
“Hopefully, no one is foolish enough to do that.” The alcohol was seeping into Calla’s blood, making her feel loose and happy, dancing just barely to the beat of the thumping music. “Push comes to shove, we find a different bar.”
“Sounds good to me!” She grinned and moved to the beat a little better than her friend was, the alcohol wasn’t affecting her just yet. “I think we’re gonna need more drinks soon.” She called over the music. “And a snack.”
“Mozzarella sticks!” Calla gave Tori a puppy look, “I could totally go for some mozzarella sticks. Or macaroni and cheese wedges. Cheese!” She laughed and knocked her shoulder against her friend’s.
“Dude, I’m chill with any of that, you don’t have to beg.” Tori laughed as she took her friend’s hand to start pulling her back toward the bar. “Let’s go ahead and put the order in and then we can dance again.”
“That sounds like a good idea.” He barely resisted the urge to kiss her. “You’ve got some good brains in there. I bet they’ll storm up something good. Do I need to give you space while you think?”
“No, no. I think better with you here.” She carefully wrapped her arms around his and hid her face against his shoulder. “Okay, that’s a lie, but I prefer you here in my arms.”
He pulled his other arm around her and gently brushed his fingers along her side. “I prefer to be right here as well. So you get to brainstorming and I’ll sit here looking pretty.”
“And you are doing such an amazing job.” Tori laughed as she gave his beard a light scratch, pulling back her power. She was tempted to lean in to kiss him as well, but she held back for now. “I say we have a nice nighttime picnic somewhere. That’s a start at least.”
He hummed happily as she scratched his beard, his eyes closing just briefly. “Hmm… A nighttime picnic sounds just perfect. A little wine, some really crisp bread and good cheese. What else would bring on our picnic?”
“Hmm… a homecooked meal, perhaps? Something we can try to make together.” Tori’s hand dropped and she rest her head on his shoulder once more. “Or maybe a dessert instead. Something sweet.”
“Hmm…” He gave her a careful and light squeeze. “I think both sound perfect. Let’s do all of the above.” He brushed his knuckles up and down her leg. “Eating far too much food is the best way to spend the evening.”
“Well... I could think of better ways, but it is definitely up there.” The woman laughed as her lips hovered close to his neck. “You should do some brainstorming too, so we can have multiple dates planned.”
“That sounds like a good idea.” He barely resisted the urge to kiss her. “You’ve got some good brains in there. I bet they’ll storm up something good. Do I need to give you space while you think?”
