Cancer sucks. We need help.
You can donate here. The starting amount is 5k to get the most important things out of the way first (treatments, travel, lodging, food, possible surgeries, bills). From there if we can gain momentum, we can focus on fixing the house and rid it of the mold.
In October of 2012, my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. We were lucky to have caught it. She went through long, exhausting chemotherapy treatments. She couldn’t go outside because the cold sensitivity was so bad. But she worked through her treatments and refused to give up. She had a pretty good mask in public but it put all of us through the wringer. It was hard, and we were in debt, but we made it. She made it. She kicked cancer’s ass so hard, the doctor said after the surgery that it was as if the cancer never existed in the first place.
In 2014, they found another tumor. Yet again, we all jumped into action and she started more chemotherapy treatments, with a different ‘mixture’ of drugs. She lost her hair. The cold sensitivity wasn’t as bad as before, but she was tired, and her appetite suffered. She went through stereo-static radiation. Still, she worked through it. She wore hats around the house, or wigs when we went out. The surgery she had that time was far more involved, including a partial hysterectomy alongside everything else. She didn’t recover as smoothly, but she was alive and that was all we cared about.
In 2015, we found mold growing on the wall in the living room. We’ll have to add pictures to the page soon. The house is in chaos, falling apart at the seams. It certainly hasn’t helped her health any, if it hasn’t damaged it outright. We need to get it fixed so we can get out of this house and somewhere healthy for her. She can’t keep breathing this in.
In 2016, just before Christmas, the cancer had come back. This time, it metastasized on her uterine tube and liver. The tumor on the uterine tube damaged the right kidney to the point where it functions very little. She’s gone through twenty-eight radiation treatments and now is on Chemo. After last bout of radiation treatments, tests showed that lesions shrank by 1mm(uterine) and 4mm (liver). Today, August 6th 2017, results of her latest scan showed that not only have the existing lesions grown, but another spot had appeared on her liver.
The treatment isn’t working.
We have three options. One, we stay here with the current trajectory that’s not working. Two, we go to Zion IL to CTCA. Third, we go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. My mother is leaning toward the Mayo Clinic. We aren’t sure where we’ll go, but we do know we can’t afford to get it all done. I am likely going to need spine surgery with $50 copays for every visit to the specialist.
We have ~$300 in the bank right now for a 3 person family, 3 dogs, and a fish thanks to these stupid medical expenses. We can cover our animals. We have payment plans in place to get what we need for them. We can’t cover this. So, if you can, please donate. If you can’t, that’s okay too; reblog this to signal boost it.
