PEER REVIEW
THE OFFICE
The office is an comedy American television series about working people in an ordinary office. The humour is awkward and simple, which is what makes it funny, its relatable not just for people working in office but because the personalities in this show are very much a lot like the people everyone have come across at least once in their lifetime.
I think The Office is the perfect example of how we want our show to look camera angle wise and visually. The humour isn't 100% what we're going for but the zooming in and out and awkward silences is definitely something we want to use, along with distinct personalities.
DONT HUG ME IM SCARED
DHMIS is a Youtube series that at first, visually, looks like something for children, but eventually covers dark topics and humour. This series is unsettling and confusing for anyone not expecting the sudden twist in atmosphere.
Our main focus in our show isn't puppets or puppet shows but if we were to include a puppet show into our show, we would like to have it so that the puppets look simple and harmless but the topics or story are much darker.
EDITING PROCESS
Hasan was our editor who went through each bit of footage and organised and cleaned up the scenes. Together we decided it would be best to group call with him while he edited scenes so we could put in our input of what we wanted to include. I personally had a lot of fun watching the show come to life and Hasan did a great job at taking in everyone's suggestions.
FINAL OUTCOME
The show would’ve turned out better if we had organised and planned out our scenes thoroughly. But because we decided to improvise on key part, a few bits may feel messy but this works in our favour because of the type of humour and audience we were aiming for. I do think I could’ve done better filming wise, I struggled to zoom in and out and certain points and it would’ve been good to have some scenes not so wobbly. When editing we were happy with the amount of special effects and sound we had used because we wanted it to be that way, very exaggerated but it’s clear why that might seem confusing when looking at our research. It would have been good for us to include references and to have something to look at and show as an example of what we were trying to achieve.
When starting this group project I was willing to give and come up with ideas but not lead in any sort of way and although I wasn’t a leader I definitely got a lot of my input into this show. Being the behind the camera allowed me to spot mistakes or potential within each scene, and because my team was very open for suggestions, we made a show we’re all proud of. I also made story boards and puppets which were good enough but if I was to do this again I would make sure they were detailed and visually appealing. Personally, I would have liked to been less hesitant about sharing my opinions and ideas to begin with and also staying organised and managing making the show and posting at the same time better, I would have also should have been more reflective throughout the project and in my work but I am happy with the work I have produced.
POSTER
The poster Iman had made which I personally think really captures the silly and random humour our show is going for
PUPPET MAKING
When we first got started on getting ready for our show we though of paper puppets (the top two being Byron's and Hasan's puppets) But I suggested sock puppets. The paper puppets will also be used in our show just to add to the randomness. I sewed eyes onto socks and left the decorating for everyone (this would also be a scene in the show)
Here we left to get supplies and also recorded some bits to put into our show
SCRIPT AND SCENES
I tried making a detailed script (last two pictures) but we decided a scene sum up would be better. Which Fatumata provided for us.
LOCATION SCOUTING
Some places in college we looked at for filming. The last two pictures were our groups final decision because of how well it fitted with our "group project" theme, it was also much easier accessible to us.
CHARACTER AND FILMING ANALYSIS
When filming I noticed it was difficult for everyone to stay in character after a break of filming so I made character cards for everyone so that they had a reminder of what their character personality is and their role, we sat and discussed and I left space for them to include their own interpretations of their character.
There were a lot of times while filming where we had to stop because the scene wasn't good enough or interruptions, to avoid this problem we did practice filming where I would pretend to film until it was perfect
STORYBOARD
The storyboard I made to help make it easier for the group to visualise the scenes, I didn't make it too detailed or specific to allow some parts to be changed when filming the actual scenes.
PRESENTATION
Here we worked on our presentation for the class to show our rough idea and to maybe get some recommendations. We also went over audience and format which is key in making the show immersive and fun. we're not completely sure on production roles yet.
IDEA DEVELOPMENT
As a class we brainstormed what exactly should be in a show and things to keep in mind when making one.
While referring back to the key elements, my group came up with different ideas to come up with ideas with story mountains, drawings and trying to come up with a word for each letter of the alphabet.
PROJECT PROPOSAL
BRIEF AND ANALYSIS
Here I read and broke down each bit of the brief so that I could simplify and discuss what needs to be done with my team and how we could do it, this preps me for future discussions and brainstorming.
Some bits that went into my poster. I used a texture as an overlay for the background of my poster to make it feel less empty and picked colours that went well together
