On this day in history, November 29, 1899, died Virginia Verasis Asinari née Oldoini, countess of Castiglione.
Nothing remained except for her to stage the spectacle of her death. She planned it meticulously, entrusting her last wishes, among others, to the Cléry spouses, to her friend René Bizard, to Estancelin. «No heirs...and no relatives, neither in France nor in Italy.» Newspapers had to be paid to ensure that they refrained from giving news of her death. The only people who had to be informed were the King of Italy and the Rothschilds. The burial clothing was specified meticulously: «Nightgown from Compiègne, 1857, batiste lace and long striped nightgown, black velvet, white peluche (it's at 14 rue Cambon); around my neck the nine turn petite fille pearl necklace, six white and three black [turns], the usual necklace, the one I've always worn, with the crystal pierced prong as a clasp, with my initials and the crown, well known to all my modistes; on my arms, bare and outstretched, my two bracelets, an onyx with a pearl in the centre and a black emanel, star and glitters, that are elsewhere.» At her feet, as pillows, she wanted Sandouga and Kasino, her two stuffed maltese dogs «pretty, dressed for the occasion, tiny light blue and purple coats with [their] initials, and collars with pink flowers and cypresses motifs.» And in conclusion, she repeated her last wishes: «1) No Cross. 2) No Priest. 3) No Church. 4) No Ceremony. 5) No Flowers. 6) No Exposition. 7) No Vigil. 8) No Physician. 9) No Judge. 10) No Commissioner. 11) No Consul. 12) No Ambassador. 13) No Special Envoy. 14) No Seals. 15) No Heirs. 16) No Procession. 17) No Mortuary. 18) No Holdings. 19) No Announcements. 20) No Newspapers.»
Invoked and feared, her death arrived on November 29, 1899, at the first hours of the morning. Struck by cerebral apoplexy, Virginia passed away quietly, under the watch of her elderly maid Luisa Corsi and the [restaurant] Voisin's waiting staff. She was sixty-two years old.

Hello 🙋
My name is Ahmed, I’m 20 years old, and I’m from Gaza City. I used to dream of a peaceful life, completing my education, and getting a job, but the war has turned that dream into something impossible 💔😭. We lived through this massacre in every painful detail, and we are still in pain 😔. We were so happy when the ceasefire was announced, and we returned to our homes in the north of Gaza after being displaced for a year and a half in a tent in the south of the Strip. After we fixed a small room in our destroyed house to live in and start over, unfortunately, the war returned, stronger than before 💔. Now, we have no shelter and no source of income. We have exhausted all our savings during the war. I know that I started my campaign very late, but that’s because there is no other way to help my family 🙏. I am fully confident and hopeful that someone here will help us as much as they can and save my family in these difficult circumstances 😔.
I know that the feeling of starting from scratch is painful and frustrating, but I hope to receive any amount for my family 🥺🙏.

nelly: give me the reasons why you love edgar linton
catherine: well uhhhh he's hot young rich and loves me
nelly: hm. bad. what about heathcliff
catherine:
just a suggestion but if you're writing about "the ancient world" please don't include societies that existed from like 1300 to 1521
AZTECS AND INCAS WERE NOT ANCIENT I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL
The Americas have genuinely ancient histories also!!!! Tell me why you talk about Rome and Greece and Sumer and the Qin Dynasty and Middle Kingdom Egypt but you've never heard of the Moche or Chavín, the Olmec or the Classical Maya city-states, or even Poverty Point or the Hopewell Interaction Network, or maybe the ancient Tsimshian city of Temlaxam????
okay this is gaining notes so I just want to clarifying:
I'm not saying that the Aztec and Inca societies are not fascinating and super important. They are!!!! Please learn about them!!!! And I'm DEFINITELY not saying this to say they are inferior to Eurasian societies--I want people to learn about the societies BEFORE the Aztecs and Incas.
However, when they are lumped in with the category of "ancient" alongside Rome/Greece/Mesopotamia/Egypt etc societies from before AD 500, it has the effect of flattening Indigenous American history. This is why people are constantly losing their mind over the fact that "Oxford is older than the Aztec Empire" like okay sure. But Teotihuacan is older than Oxford, it's not like there were no societies in the Americas before the year 1300.
Basically no one seems to have a sense of the true length of Indigenous American presence and history in our own continents. That's why this bothers me.
If you don't refer to The Tudors in England as "The ancient Tudors" or The Renaissance as "The Ancient Renaissance" then it's also inaccurate to say "The Ancient Aztecs/Inca". It's really just so common for people to think that Native American history begins and ends with being colonized (thus, why they see a few decades preceding 1492 as being "ancient" for us)
THANK YOU exactlyyyyyyy this

Heathcliff is truly the best character in all of fiction, my man said he was gonna live for spite then one day he was like 'you know what spite's just not hitting anymore' and then he died. King.
