THE OLD GUARD 2
What I mean is, maybe this is the perfect time for Quynh to be back.
THE OLD GUARD 2
saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.
her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
icon. legend. diva. i wish her nothing but a kajillion million comments and kudos. i hope her fic updates crash AO3. i hope she knows i'm promoting her to my personal patron saint of AO3.
From the media that brought you "Millennials are killing [insert industry here]" articles for years and years and years, now we have....
"Hey, Gen Z, we're gonna relabel vacations into something else now and tell you how you really should be wary of taking vacation because it might impact your financial future."
This is a goddamn dystopia, we know this, right?
I cannot emphasize enough how much the European Union legal minimum for vacations is 5 weeks.

How can anyone hate Junji Ito
I love when you recognize junji ito’s style and you read on not knowing if it’s going to be horrific or just cute cat stuff
charlize theron channeled every goddamn lesbian atom in her soul past present and ancestral every single time andromache breathed in quynh’s direction or when even just her name or memory was at play god it wasn’t acting it was invocation and for that she has earned my eternal undying sapphic reverence
andromaquynh reunion divorce of all time. haven't seen each other in 500 years. i tell you you're not the woman i gave a wedding ring my necklace to. i snatch away the physical representation of our bond. I curse you in my native language so it actually cuts deep. I do a gay little run and disappear into the crowd
the parents are fighting
I (native Vietnamese) was taken aback by Quynh’s Vietnamese line as she shouted at Andy after their fight bc Quynh used “mày” to refer to Andy. “Mày”, equivalent to singular “you”, is a tricky pronoun since it can be the single worst pronoun to use—it carries the emotional weight similar to saying “fuck you” in the angriest, most resentful manner possible; however, at the same time, “mày” can be used affectionately between family members or close friends. For example, a parent/grandparent/older sibling can refer to their child/grandchild/younger as “mày” in casual, lighthearted conversations. Buddies around the same age can also use it if they are close enough and both consent to using it (some don’t like it no matter how close they are). It’s generally not used between couples.
The English sub for the Vietnamese at this part is completely wrong. She 100% did not say "I curse you for all your lifetimes." That also has absolutely no emotional impact between them.
Instead what Quỳnh actually said was specifically a callback to their conversation earlier. At around 43 min mark, Quỳnh said, "You once told me the only thing you fear is being alone."
In the scene above, Quỳnh said, "Traitor. You will die alone and in darkness!" AND THE ENGLISH SUB COMPLETELY ELIMINATED THE INTRICACY OF HER DIALOGUE!
I think the main reason I really love Andy so fucking much is the way Charlize Theron is portraying her (and I don't mean her looking, respectfully put, hot as hell)
no, I mean... when we get to know Andy in the first movie, we're told she's the oldest immortal and she's that tough, sassy, badass character who probably knows every single way there is to kill someone. I mean, she basically takes out about 20 special forces guys who're armed to the teeth just by herself in that church.
But when she realises she lost her immortality, or when Nile mentions dreaming about Quynh, she can get so utterly vulnerable. And I think Charlize Theron is an entirely outstanding actress for being able to portray Andy's vulnerability like that... just by minor facial expressions, or even the *look* in her eyes, it's remarkeable.
At the same time, Andy can still be that badass, we see so during the fight scenes at the Merrick company building, or in the 2nd movie, that opening action sequence in Croatia, where she's taking on multiple opponents without any fear, despite being mortal now. She still is badass.
At the same time, she is so vulnerable, physically now due to losing her immortality, but especially emotionally, which becomes painfully obvious in every single scene regarding Quynh... I mean, her reaction alone when Booker tells her Quynh is back and has a message for her... and then when she actually gets to see Quynh again after 500 years and everything that happened.
My heart hurt so badly during these scenes and the main reason was Charlize Theron's acting. The way she portrayed Andy and put ALL the emotions into the way she LOOKED at Quynh... it's entirely remarkeable and I couldn't love her more for giving us this, like I cannot even find proper words to express myself here.
The only thing I know is that, unlike other people who think Andy and Quynh should have hugged or kissed, I don't think it was necessary at all and the way these character's emotions were portrayed by these two incredible actresses – because Veronica Ngo was nothing short of outstanding as well – was more than sufficient enough to tell us the depth of their relationship and their love and how much they still care for each other even after 500 years
Say what you want about Old Guard 2 but Andy was absolutely fucking great. Loved seeing her happy and domestic in the beginning. Loved seeing her be content with her found family. Loved watching her finally be at peace…but wait… it’s about to all come crashing down. Loved seeing the soft and tenderness she had for Quynh. I’m sick and twisted, I loved watching their sad fucking love story. Idk Andy’s going through it but my girl has changed a lot since the 1st movie and I fucking love it.
