some crayola marker sketches today
Hi, is the malex remix going to be hosted again in 2023?
Hello and thanks for the ask! To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure yet. It seems like the fandom has died down a bit so I'm not sure if the interest for the event will exist in a few months. But if there is interest, I definitely would like to host it again.
Sorry I don't have a better answer right now!
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the 2022 Malex Remix and made it another huge success!! We received so many fun and creative spins on existing works!
Below is the masterlist of all the fics published over the past four days:

My offering for the @malexremix for the very lovely @pippsmcgee and their equally lovely fic The Valley of the Shadow of Death
Reading that fic made me crave a future scenario where Dallas would get to witness Michael’s devotion to Alex, and so here’s my little attempt at doing just that.
The last of the dusk light was fading quickly, and here was the time Dallas loved most. The quiet of the meeting center after all the events were done for the day, food and paper strewn across the space.
Dallas and Michael bond. That’s all.

Malex Fic - All the things that give me love
This is my @malexremix fic for @notsowrites. I was very lucky because I had so many amazing fics to choose from. I decided to remix Quiet All The Noises, I lovely domestic fic about Alex not being able to cook, and Michael feeling at home. You should definitely read it right now.
I wrote a sequel to the that story where Alex learns to cook and figures out how love and food can intertwine. @notsowrites thank you for giving me such a wonderful starting point. I hope you don’t mind where I took it.
No warning. I stole the title from Erasure’s “Fallen Angel”
All the things that give me love on AO3
After Alex’s spectacular display of his terrible cooking skills, he waits for Michael to bring it up again, but he doesn’t. They didn’t really finish their conversation - not about Alex wanting to learn to cook or how Sanders was the one to teach Michael. Alex had leaned over to lick some some dipping sauce from Michael’s lips and that was that. Any discussions of cooking went right out the window. A few days later there is a new pot on the stove to replace the one Alex ruined burning pasta of all things.
He hates that pot so much; it’s ridiculous, he knows, but every time he sees it, Alex feels like a failure. He remembers there are still things he’s not giving Michael, still ways he’s holding back. And maybe lack of cooking skills isn’t the most damaging way Jesse’s ghost still lingers over their lives, but it seems like an easy one to fix.
It’s not.

running up that hill (a deal with god)
Alex makes a deal with a demon, Michael, to get his family off his back. In exchange, Alex agrees to be his, forever. There’s just one problem.
Demons aren’t supposed to fall in love.
This is a sequel to @pastelwitchling’s super cool crossroads demon AU for @malexremix 💕
Read on AO3
“As long as I live, so shall you. Your family will never recognize you, and you’ll be safe from them… but I will come to you whenever I please. And you shall never belong to anyone but me.”
The demon was gone now, but Alex could still see his wolffish grin in his mind, feel where his fingers had lightly scraped his jaw, hear his soft, seductive voice echo in his ears, reminding him of the deal he’d just made.
He touched a finger lightly to the flesh of his bottom lip, something like a memory flashing through the nerve endings beneath his skin. He didn’t know what he expected, maybe that it would burn to the touch, as if the demon’s lips had left an indelible, smoldering imprint upon him.
It had been merely transactional, a kiss to seal the deal. But for the first time in his short, miserable life of only eighteen years, as they joined their breaths together in unholy communion, Alex felt a longing so intense he thought it might kill him before he even had a chance to hold up his end of the bargain.
Michael.
He’d appeared like a match strike against the flat black of night, a demon named for an angel. Alex thought of his green eyes piercing through the darkness. His golden curls, betraying even the slightest breeze.
He’s a demon, Alex scolded himself under his breath, smacking the heel of his hand against his forehead hopelessly. He was damned. He knew this.
But he’d known evil all his life. This man—well, not a man, but still—was nothing close to it.
He’d seen the devil up close. It had his father’s cold eyes, his father’s cruel smile. His father’s calloused hands, closing in tight around his throat.
Never again.
He finally took a step in the dirt away from the crossroads, inhaling slowly, appreciating the way the cool night air warmed as it filled his lungs. He thought of how he should savor the feeling as he exhaled, given that he would have to spend a lot of time holding his breath.
Now it was his turn to wait to be summoned.

This is my rendition of @female-overlord-3′s amazing fic, Not Possible, for the @malexremix.

Alex had no idea what Maria could want to tell them, but he was already running late. He checked his watch for the millionth time, imagining the Lockhart Machine sitting on his desk. He had a new theory he wanted to test out, but on his way to Deep Sky, Maria had sent an urgent text, telling them to meet her at the Wild Pony.
What was more, Michael hadn’t arrived yet, so the only presence that took priority over his work wasn’t there to distract him.
“Hey,” Maria came out from the backroom, deflating at once with both relief and something akin to resignation in the slump of her shoulders. Her eyes were glassy and her voice thick as she said, “Thanks for coming, guys.”
“Of course,” Liz said, brows furrowed, taking Maria’s hands. “What’s going on?”
“Are you okay?” Isobel frowned.
She shook her head, her lower lip trembling. “No, I don’t think I am, I …”
Alex looked around the space one more time. He would’ve known if Michael had come in. He always managed to sense him, though he had no idea how.
“Wait,” he said. “Guerin’s not here yet.”
Maria exhaled shakily, tilting her head at Alex as if sympathizing with a loss he didn’t know of. “Alex,” she breathed, “I … I didn’t call him. I didn’t want him to know.”
“What?” Isobel shut her eyes, brows pinched. “Maria, you’re starting to freak me out.”
“Why isn’t Michael here?” Max asked.
“Because I told you that someone dies in my vision,” she said desperately. “And … I think it’s him. I think it’s Michael’s funeral.”
Alex blinked. Everyone, surprisingly, turned to look at him. He scoffed. One sound, and the rest of the group’s impending panic faded at once.
“Oh thank god,” Isobel heaved, a hand on her chest. Max pinched the bridge of his nose like he was trying to overcome a near power surge he’d had at the possibility of anything happening to his brother.
“Maria,” Liz huffed a nervous chuckle. “You – you really scared us, you can’t do that!”
“What?” Maria looked around at all of them. “Guys, I’m not kidding!”
Alex turned away, rolling his eyes. “Well, this was fun, but I gotta get to work.”
“Alex!” Maria gaped. “I don’t believe this, are you seriously not going to take Michael getting hurt seriously?!”
Alex stopped. The bar turned dead silent. He slowly turned around.
“You know what I don’t believe?” he said, his voice dark and cold to his own ears. He couldn’t remember using this kind of voice since he was captain, and everyone seemed to sense that he wasn’t pleased because they kept quiet while he spoke. “I can’t believe you would dare think that I would cover up Michael’s murder.”
Maria faltered. “I – I didn’t –”
“If anyone ever touched him,” he said cruelly, “I’d burn them alive, and I’d fight like hell to bring him back. If that doesn’t work,” he smiled tightly, the mere thought of losing Michael pissing him off and turning him into someone he thought he’d gotten rid of a long time ago, “I’d join him.”
She swallowed thickly. “I … I only …” she looked around, expecting help, but everyone was either looking down or looking away, shaking their head in disbelief.
“Maria,” Max said evenly, “you really think any of us would show up to that kind of funeral?”
“If anything happened to Michael,” Isobel demanded, “I wouldn’t be crying, I’d be right there by Alex’s side! With an axe!”
“But, Alex –”
“Maria,” Liz said quietly, shaking her head. “Alex knows what he’s talking about, okay?”
“Are we done?” Alex said, already turning around, his blood boiling and his fingers trembling with an anger that frightened even him. He had to get out of here. “Because I’ve got somewhere to be.”
No one tried to stop him as he left, no one said a word. He could still hear Maria give her stammering reasonings behind him, but he didn’t care. He needed to see Michael. Now.
Alex found Michael under the hood of a car as he’d driven into the junkyard. His heart pounded as it always did when he saw Michael, as it had done when he’d turned a corner the other night and found none other than the cowboy leaning against his car.
He’d tried to play off his fears, his misery at what he’d found out about his father, but Alex had seen it so painfully clearly. So he’d smiled and dismissed Michael’s concerns because that was what they were. Nothing.
As Alex stepped out of his car, he thought that of everyone he’d ever known, every soul he’d ever come across – there wasn’t anyone better than Michael Guerin. Human or not.
Michael straightened slowly, squinting at Alex. He rubbed one of his eyes with the back of his hand, either to wipe away the sweat rolling down his brow or because he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Before Alex said anything, Michael looked away, scoffing. “Didn’t expect to see you here.” He tried to hide the hurt in his voice, the silent plea that Alex was going to make the pain lingering in his chest go away, but Alex couldn’t pretend it wasn’t there. He couldn’t ignore it. “You come because of the turquoise or –”
Michael cut of abruptly as Alex walked right up to him and wrapped his arms around his shoulders. Michael didn’t move, didn’t breathe. He was soaked in sweat, but Alex buried his face in the crook of his neck anyway, breathing him in.
“Alex?”
Alex held him another few seconds. Only at Michael’s touch did the anger simmering under his skin finally cool down. Alex loved him. He loved him. He loved his body heat, his scent, the feel of him, unlike any other man. The idea that he would allow anyone to hurt a hair on Michael’s head was insulting, but having him so close now, it kept the fury at bay. He started to pull back just as he felt Michael’s fingers brush his waist, like he was daring to touch Alex back. Alex looked him straight in the eyes, and smiled. He couldn’t help it. He loved him.
He huffed a laugh, feeling a little freer and lighter than he had since the last time he’d seen Michael. “You know I’m going to keep you safe, right?”
Michael’s confusion faltered, and he swallowed. He briefly looked down, as if he wanted so much more than just safety from Alex, then looked up again and nodded.
Alex cupped his jaw once before he let his hands fall away. “Good. I’ll let you get back to work.”
He turned to leave, but he’d barely made it a few steps before Michael caught his hand. Alex looked back at him, and Michael met his eyes. He squeezed once, the need and desire and hope in every clench of his muscles, and he slowly let go.
Without a word, because Alex didn’t think he and Michael had ever needed any, he put his hands in his pockets and turned to leave, knowing that every fight he had ahead of him, just as the ones he’d fought in the past, were for his cowboy.

My submission for the @malexremix for @dankmalexmemes! This is a remix of concepts from her series scream in there - spanning several parts of the series. I am extremely aware of the huge responsibility of writing about River given his popularity and belovedness in the fandom. I hope you'll forgive me for borrowing him :)

The Frat Boy and the Punk on AO3
For the @malexremix !
Set between the two parts of School Spirits by @insidious-intent
Alex and Michael are so different, but when Alex gets stuck outside the frat house one night and has to stay over, his thoughts about the frat boy slowly start to change, and he finds himself wondering what it would be like to give in to his desires.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"So, what went so wrong that you ended up on my doorstep tonight Manes?" he asked.
"Just really not my day I guess," Alex grumbled with a shake of his head. "I mean I was supposed to be at a party off campus and I wind up here, with you of all people for company."
"So, you were trying to get laid," Michael grinned, putting his hands up, spilling his drink a little.
Alex rolled his eyes, side eyeing him and taking a long sip of his drink.
"Is that a crime Guerin?" he said.
"Nope," he said, eyes locked on Alex and making his cheeks flush.
Alex's body had a habit of giving him away even if his mouth was playing it cool. As unappealing as most of the frat-bros were, attention from someone like Michael Guerin still sent a rush through him.
"I mean if you want to let off some steam, I can probably help you out," Michael said, tongue running over his bottom lip as he gave Alex another once over with his eyes.
Alex scoffed.
"I'm not blowing you Guerin," he said, and Michael's grin grew as he let out a low laugh. "What is it with you frat boys thinking that it's some gay fantasy to go down on the straight football star?"
Michael was shaking his head, his smile wider than ever.
"Okay, one, I'm bisexual, not straight," he said. "And two, star is a bit of a push but if that's how you picture it then I'll take it."
Alex eyed him curiously, guys like Michael weren't always so forthcoming to admit their sexuality, and they definitely weren't interested in the likes of Alex.
Even if it was the truth, and even if Alex had been hoping for something more than his own hand getting him off when he had left the apartment that night, nothing good could come from getting involved with someone like Michael.

summary: Alex finds a surprise waiting for him at home one day.
a sequel to coffee, with a touch of acetone
written for @bekkachaos as part of @malexremix
———-
Joining the military had never been Alex’s idea of a future, what he wanted to do with his life. It was the plan his father had set out for him, and without any other viable options, it had felt like the only choice he had. He’d listened as Maria and Liz had tried to convince him to do something, anything, else with his life. But there had been some part of him that believed at the time that maybe he could do some good, maybe it would provide him an outlet to help people.
Especially when he saw the way humans treated the aliens.
Ultimately, it had been Kyle who helped him make the decision to leave the military. The more he’d tried to rebel against the established norms, to push back against the authority of both his father and the expectations of society, the more he began to question if there were others out there already doing that sort of work. When he’d expressed his desire to end his contract, Maria had immediately pointed him in Kyle’s direction, telling him all about the organization the Valenti family had been involved with for decades to help the aliens against the hatred, violence, and discrimination they faced each and every day.
For once, it felt good to be involved with something that was doing the work he’d wanted to do for so long. And there was a part of him that also got a tiny thrill from being able to do the exact opposite of what his father had preached his entire life. Even observing the aliens from afar, Alex could tell they didn’t pose any real danger - many of them were just like humans. Was it really right to punish them for their ship crashing on Earth? His father believed so - but his father also believed that Alex’s sexuality was a reason to beat him as a child.
And now, almost a week later, he couldn’t stop thinking about Michael, the curly haired alien he’d met at the coffee shop. It hadn’t been a choice really, to step between him and the barista, flashing his badge and saving Michael from making a terrible decision. He wanted to help, and he’d been relieved Michael had understood what he’d been offering.
“What’s his name?” Kyle asks, dropping a folder on his desk.
Alex frowns, glancing at the folder and then up at Kyle. “Who?”
“You haven’t smiled this much since you told me you were requesting a discharge from the military.”
“It’s nothing.”
