Im very glad that the supreme kai returned in DragonBall Super.
Not just because heĀ“s one of my favourites and I wanted to see more of him. Im also glad, because it shows now, how important he actually is.
I mean, he is the fricking god of all living things in his universe!! He is the highest of them all! At the end of DBZ he seemed just like another one, who needed Gokus help, maybe just like the Namekians or Future Trunks, but with an enemy that strong, that he couldnt be mortal: Majin Buu.
But now we can see, that he still matters. He is the supreme kai, not the elder one. He still is in charge of universe 7, its representent and the god of life. Beerus may be stronger than him, but he is not higher than Shin. Even if it seems so, Beerus and Shin are equal in rank and two parts of the universes balance. You can see it in the newest manga chapters, where Beerus and Shin work together to find out about Zamasus plan (which I personally prever more than the anime in this scene). It also shows more of their dynamic of a team, even if Beerus likes bossing the Supreme Kai around. But thats not because Shin is dump!
I see him more as naive and unexperienced. He was the youngest of the Supreme Kais of universe 7 before Bibidi and Majin Buu attacked. He had a happy life with his family/friends, which was brutally murdered. Suddenly he was all alone on this big planet. In a blink of an eye the youngest was in charge of everything, without a mentor or even a guidance. He had to rule as the Supreme Kai and he did the best he could. Now he had to watch after everything. And as you can see about him not recognizing the Omni King at the Tournament of Universe 7 and 6, that he still lacks about knowladge. Same in the Buu ark, when he didnt knew about such strong mortals, that even surpas his strengh.
He may be young (maybe a teenager or in his twenties as a supreme kai) and he may still have to learn a lot about his role, the ranks and life itself, but he is willing do give his best try.Ā He wants to be useful and become a responsible and great god, and its his effort, that I love the most about him. He wants to help Beerus to find out about Zamasus plan, even if he was late, because he was lost in all the different timelines. He wanted to fight Buu, even if he was the weakest of the Supreme Kais, but he knew he had to do something, because Buu was not just a threat to earth, but to all life in the universe and the balance of it.
And thats why the Supreme Kai is my god, my inspiration and my master.
