The Bjorgmans also began decorating. Anna decided to get all the youngest children involved in "dressing up" the tree.
The snow has nearly completely melted in Britechester but Rapunzel decided to decorate the whole house nicely anyway.
In the meantime in Windenburg, the Bjorgman children are working on their last school projects before the winter break starts.
Life in Britchester is back to normal again. Just like it always is after some crazy or dangerous events. One could say that Rapunzel and her friends are already used to it.
Eugene focused on his work again, and in the meantime, Rapunzel decided to temporarily give up studying to play with Pascal.
'What is it?'
Cassandra came closer and crouched down to pick up the mysterious object which turned out to be a piece of paper. A photograph, to be more precise.
Cassandra's heart began beating faster as she examined the photo and realised that it portrayed herself and Rapunzel. It was the very first selfie they took together soon after Rapunzel and Eugene moved to Britechester and they all became friends.
She couldn't help but feel upset, remembering that night and all that happened afterwards. She caressed the photo gently. Then closed her eyes as she felt tears coming in. She hugged the photo.
And then she remembered all the bad things that happened. All the troubles they got in together. All the times she got hurt, trying to protect her friends. All the times when Rapunzel was reckless and her saviour complex. She was always the better one. The one people always turned to. The one people were always in awe of.
Rapunzel was the one who made Cassandra feel like a background character in her own life.
And she was done with allowing it to happen. She was ready to go on the stage. But to do that, she had to let go of everything that was holding her back.
Suddenly, Cassandra felt a new anger brimming inside her. She became furious all over again, remembering the duel that happened not too long ago.
She dropped the photo carelessly on the floor, where she found it, and took a few steps back. Then began chanting.
Out of thin air, a tiny magical spark appeared. In a matter of seconds, that part turned into a roaring flame that engulfed the photo.
Cassandra kept staring into the spot where the photo was. The flame died out due to there being nothing else inflammable. The woman smirked, looking at a small pile of ash in front of her, feeling her heart harden up.
'Now I have nothing left to lose...' she muttered to herself, with all tenderness gone.
Shameless self-promo: poses + photo accessory by me here.
After her confrontation with Elsa, Cassandra left the basement. She needed to be alone to rethink everything and to cool her emotions down.
She couldn't believe Elsa never believed Cassandra could have won the fight. And she refused to help her on purpose! Cassandra felt her blood boil and another headache incoming. She pinched the bridge of her nose and groaned.
She looked at the space where Varian's cage used to be, obviously empty now, and she felt a rush of emotions. She began to wonder what she could have done differently to make things work better.
And then something caught her eye. She stared blankly at the floor, then frowned.
'What is it?' she asked herself out loud.
Cassandra entered the basement. Walking down the stairs was quite difficult for her stiff joints, especially with no bannister to lean on.
She was shocked to find Elsa casually mixing some potions as if nothing happened. As if Cassandra hadn't just been in a fight and as if their prisoner hadn't been freed.
'How could you do this to me?!' Cassandra approached the ghost and yelled at her.
'Ugh.' Elsa rolled her eyes and turned around to face the witch.
'How could you abandon me like that?! I needed your help! Together we would have won!' Cassandra continued to complain.
'Stop yelling.' Elsa interrupted her. 'And I didn't abandon you. I was watching from afar. I was even cheering you on.'
'Don't play stupid! You distracted me! I almost had her, but then you made me lose my focus and you gave her an advantage.'
'Please, stop talking.' Elsa rolled her eyes again. 'Frankly, I didn't care if you would win that fight or not. I wanted you to duel Rapunzel alone. I wanted you to see for yourself what you are up against. She kicked your ass and rightfully so!'
'What sort of mentor are you?!' Cassandra scoffed.
'One that doesn't sugarcoat the truth. You are not good enough to fight Rapunzel. I expected you to lose. That's why you need to practise more! You need to learn more! Now you know where you are lacking. Go and do some spells!'
Back at home in Britechester, Rapunzel and Eugene sat down on the sofa and they just remained silent for a moment as the gravity of the whole situation hit them.
'Eugene, I-'
'Rapunzel-'
They both suddenly began talking at the same time and both stopped abruptly to let the other one speak. Eugene chuckled lightly.
'How do you feel, Eugie Bear?' Rapunzel asked in a soft voice.
'I'm fine, blondie.' Eugene sighed. 'A bit sore but fine.'
'I didn't think it would all go like this...'
'That was quite an eventful evening, I must admit. I am just happy that everyone survived.' Eugene sighed again and hid his face in his hands. Rapunzel scooted closer to embrace him. She laid her head on his shoulder.
'I hate this.' she sat upright suddenly as if a bolt went through her body. 'I hate this whole situation!' she stood up, visibly frustrated.
'What do you mean?' Eugene followed her but Rapunzel wouldn't meet his gaze. She crossed her arms and stared at the floor. 'Blondie, talk to me.' Eugene came closer and tried to put his arm on her arm but Rapunzel made a step back.
She sighed and hid her face in her arms as she felt tears gathering in her eyes.
'All of this is so overwhelming, Eugene...' she muttered, her hands still obstructing her face. 'Why me? Why do troubles always follow me? Ever since we met, there is always something going on. First my mother and the Stabbingtons, then Varian went rogue, then Stella Gallagher, and now Cassandra turned evil.'
'Blondie...' Eugene wrapped his arms around Rapunzel's waist.
'And every time, you get attacked because of me or my powers! I can't handle it, Eugene!' the tears now started running down Rapunzel's face. 'I can't stand constantly putting you in danger! Or anyone else! Why couldn't I have been born with no powers?!'
'You're special, blondie...' Eugene smiled gently at her and moved a stand of hair away from her face. She finally gave in to the cuddle.
'I hate being special.' Rapunzel murmured into Eugene's collarbone, which now was against her mouth. 'I hate it if it means you risk your life when being with me. You could have died tonight.'
'But I didn't.' Eugene smiled brightly.
'It's not funny.'
'Rapunzel, I wouldn't trade what we have for anything else in this world. I love you all the same whether you have your powers or not. I would get hexed a thousand times if it meant that you're safe. And besides, this constant thrill makes life all the more interesting, hey?'
Moments after Rapunzel and her friends disappeared from Forgotten Hollow, unconscious Cassandra woke up. She was sore and beaten up. She felt a banging headache and was certain there would be bruises on her body tomorrow morning.
She got up, groaning in the meantime. She then trodded towards the basement.
When Rapunzel won the duel against Cassandra, she didn't waste any time dwelling on Cassandra's unconscious body. She didn't go check if her ex-friend survived the ordeal or not. There was a more important thing on her mind.
The blonde girl turned around quickly and ran towards the crypt, where she saw that Eugene still wasn't awake.
She used her healing spell with no hesitation and soon enough, Eugene sat upright, coughing violently. The man looked around, confused as if he lost memory of what happened.
'Eugie! You're okay!' Rapunzel clapped her hands once, excitedly. 'Now let's get out of here before things get out of hand again!' she demanded.
Lance helped Eugene stand up and held the man upright when Rapunzel performed the teleportation spell. Seconds later, the group disappeared from Cassandra's lair and from Forgotten Hollow all together.
Cassandra wanted a fight so Rapunzel was ready to give her a fight. The two witches stepped onto the snow-covered road, where there was more space for a duel.
Rapunzel thought Cassandra wouldn't be too difficult to defeat but her friend proved to be more powerful than expected.
As the two women were shouting and throwing spells at each other, Elsa observed calmly, hidden behind the fence of the crypt. She used the mental connection she had with Cassandra to give her some tips and words of support.

Cassandra didn't expect to hear a voice in her head. She got distracted and as she lost her focus, she got hit by Rapunzel's powerful spell. The impact nearly knocked her to the ground but she managed to compose herself and attack.
The powers of the two witches clashed but Rapunzel managed to overpower Cassandra with moderate strain.
Using the final incantation, she threw Cassandra to the ground.
'You will not fight with me, Rapunzel...' Cassandra growled as she aimed her spell. Rapunzel braced herself for the impact of whatever Cassandra was trying to conjure. 'But will you fight for him?!'
'Aaargh!' Eugene moaned loudly as a strong current of electricity ran through his whole body.
'Eugene!' Rapunzel turned around quickly, realising that Cassandra's spell wasn't aimed at her at all. She looked in horror as her boyfriend collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
'Buddy, no!' Lance knelt down by Eugene's side, trying to wake him up.
'You will pay for this, Cassandra!' Rapunzel faced her friend again, feeling fury boiling in her veins.
'That's what I've been waiting for!' the evil witch bared her teeth like a feral animal.
'This is the last time I say this, Cassandra. Let us go!'
'I don't follow your orders, Rapunzel.'
'Let. Us. Go!'
'Not without a fight!'
Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance and Varian exited the crypt and froze in place right at the edge of the steps.
'Cassandra!' Rapunzel gasped.
'Oh, you're leaving already?' Cassandra spoke with an overly sweet voice while staring at her ex-friends with venom in her eyes. 'Do you not want to stay for tea?' she chuckled but it came off more like a gurgle.
'Cass, let us through.'
'No!' Cassandra crossed her arms. 'You won't leave here without a fight!'
Rapunzel went down the stairs slowly so she could have Cassandra at her eye level.
'Cass, I don't want to fight you.' she shook her head. 'This is not what we do! This is not who you are!'
'Wrong! I finally became who I was meant to be all this time. This is the new me!'
'I will never stop trying to get through to you! To believe in your inherent goodness. I won't fight you. I won't give you any reason for your hatred. And there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise!'
'Nothing?' Cassandra arched an eyebrow and smirked in her typical, evil way. 'I think there is...'
With no more to say, Cassandra began chanting her spell. Rapunzel looked at her friend horrified. She was ready to throw a protection shield in front of herself but not to attack Cassandra. But the spell wasn't aimed at her...
'This is it, guys.' Rapunzel looked at the massive door in front of her, leading to the crypt where Varian was imprisoned. 'No more obstacles. Let's go get our friend!'
Then, she used her magic to unlock the door and soon, the heavy wooden frame swung open to let them walk inside.
'Varian! There you are! Are you okay?' the girl exclaimed when she noticed the boy locked behind bars.
'I am alright...' Varian didn't dare look her in the eyes. 'I'm sorry, Rapunzel, I betrayed you... I told Cassandra everything. About your training, about Adira's prophecy.'
'Don't worry about that now.' Rapunzel shook her head. 'Let's get you out of here. Take a step back, boys.' She briefly glanced at the men behind her and began her spell.
Within seconds, the bars were gone and Varian was free to go.
'That was easier than I thought.' Rapunzel breathed a sigh of relief. 'Now, let's get out of here before things get more difficult!'
Cassandra teleported herself into the basement, where she and Elsa now lived. She found a ghost and began babbling in a panic:
'Rapunzel's here! She found us! She knows where we keep Varian and she wants to free him! She also knows that we are together! Adira told her about how you're a passenger in my body so often! I don't know what to do!'
'Okay, calm down.' Elsa crossed her arms. 'Where we keep Varian? No, my dear. You did this. This is on you.' She rolled her eyes.
'No, don't act like I was the only one benefitting from this.'
'Well, I never got anything out of him.' Elsa scoffed.
'But now we know where we are. We know what our enemies know.'
'And? That was not an important piece of knowledge. You didn't need to know what Rapunzel is up to. You should have continued to practise your magic and then attack when nobody's expecting. Not provoke them to start the battle early.'
'I need to get rid of them. Please, help me deal with this.'
'You're so talented and powerful.' Elsa shook her head. 'You can deal with this yourself.'
'[...] According to my spell, it's the crypt on the right-hand side.'
'Huh?' Cassandra frowned and listened closely to the voices nearby. 'Is that... Rapunzel?' she muttered.
'Let's go save Varian.' the voice said again.
'Oh, no! It's her!' Cassandra half whispered, half squealed.
'What did you say?' Varian, who didn't hear her clearly, asked.
'Nothing! I have to go!' Cassandra just shook her head and teleported herself out of the crypt, leaving the confused boy alone.
