Keeping Snack Choices Consistent Without Overthinking
okay can we talk about how exhausting it is to constantly think about what to eat??
like every single day. what's healthy. what's not too indulgent. what's actually filling. whether that thing you ate yesterday was okay. whether today's snack is better or worse than yesterday's.
it's a lot. it's genuinely a lot. and nobody talks about how much mental energy goes into food decisions every single day ๐ญ
so at some point i just... stopped overthinking it.
and honestly? everything got better immediately.
here's what i actually do now and it's embarrassingly simple:
i have like four or five snacks i genuinely like and i just rotate them. that's it. that's the whole system.
roasted chana is always in my bag. always. no thinking required. hunger arrives, chana appears. done.
makhana gets made every Sunday in one big batch. ghee, rock salt, black pepper, 15 minutes. lasts the whole week in a jar. daily effort: zero.
banana chips - the proper Kerala ones made in coconut oil not the fake supermarket kind - live in a container on my desk. satisfying crunch, clean ingredients, zero preparation. just there when i need them.
murukku because some days you just need something properly savory and satisfying and murukku never disappoints. ever.
masala peanuts for that 3pm moment when your brain stops working and you need something bold and filling immediately.
the thing i noticed after switching to this approach is that i actually eat better now than when i was constantly researching and planning elaborate healthy eating strategies ๐
because consistency beats perfection every single time.
you don't need a different healthy snack every day. you need a few reliable genuinely good options that are always there when hunger arrives. that's it.
the other thing worth saying - the quality of what you consistently eat matters enormously. there's a massive difference between authentic traditionally made Kerala banana chips with coconut oil and Nendran bananas versus cheap supermarket versions with refined oil and artificial flavors.
same snack name. completely different food.
when you're eating the same things consistently - which is the whole point - you want those things to actually be good. real ingredients, traditional recipes, genuine quality.
Mallu Vibes is where i get my Kerala snacks and it genuinely makes the consistency approach work better because the quality is reliable every single time. no surprises. no disappointment. just the same good thing you expected. ๐ฟ
stop overthinking your snacks. pick a few good ones. rotate them. stock them consistently. let the habit run on autopilot.
your future self will thank you for making things this simple ๐โจ
drop your most consistent go to snack in the comments ๐ always curious what people keep coming back to
