Entry: Type 57 MBT
Put into service in 1957, the Type 57-61-120 Stallion was meant to replace Prokyat's ageing armoured forces. An all-rounder, a main battle tank. A standardisation of the tank as a concept.
Large, fast, armoured, and with powerful armament. It was thought at first that the prokian designers had cracked the code to get a tank to do everything well. 50km/h top speed, strong frontal armour for hull and turret, 120mm gun with exceptional performance. And only weighing in at around 61 tonnes.
This tank went through several design iterations before the first prototype saw trials. Twin guns were considered, and dropped. A missile launcher was proposed, and considered too expensive. A larger gun, wouldn't fit and too heavy. A smaller gun, not powerful enough. Two engines, not enough room and too heavy to justify the power to weight ratio.
7 years of deliberation from 1948 to 1955 eventually culminated into prokyat's most manufactured tank line. The Type 57.
