@toaarcan
is this gonna get me fired you think
belongs in the post too in my opinion
Starting off my challenge to make 1 zine every week until march, it’s some of my favourite baby birds!
I’m doing this challenge to try to kick my habit of overthinking and never starting stuff, though I will admit I’m posting this now on my self-appointed deadline day because I spent the whole week overthinking, gotta start somewhere I guess. Once I forced myself to just sit down and just start drawing it only took me an hour which makes me feel a bit silly
Too bad the prophet Cassandra never met Odysseus
They say if she made a prophecy Nobody would believe her
I’ve gotta say, that is exactly the kind of stupid thing that probably would circumvent a curse.
Cassandra: YOU ARE ALL GOING TO REGRET THIS SO MUCH YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW.
Odysseus: Regret it why?
Cassandra: You won’t believe me if I tell you. If I prophecy, nobody believes me. That is my curse.
Odysseus: … I’m Nobody. Fill me in.
*A couple of months later*
Odysseus: HELLO PENELOPE, I AM HERE PRECISELY ON TIME AND NOT YEARS LATE incidentally I rescued and adopted a Trojan seer while I was away, she’s great, got me home really fast, Cassandra this is your new mother who’s not going to treat you like shit.
Penelope: … I’m going to need more details, but okay, sure.
Cassandra: *in tears* I love you, new family.
Cassandra: Penelope, I’ve had another vision.
Penelope, sighs: Go tell your father.

Silly j run around
Insane that if this weren’t an official animation, just a few days ago we would all think it’s completely out of character for her
Nope, J full of joy and whimsy (and battery acid) is real, who could've guessed

kitten fever is worse than baby fever because a kitten is way easier to obtain than a baby so it's more dangerous
this one looks like it’s plotting something really evil
We kill the Zubatman.
I had to draw it. There’s something awfully fetching about this pokemon and I can’t put my finger on exactly what.
I’ll probably draw more later.

Takutanuva is such a fascinating concept, but man he is weird.
He's around for an extremely short time, and while he has the very impactful revival of Jaller in his corner, the fact that Takanuva gets brought back from the dead two minutes later by means of some completely unexplained nonsense dents that a bit. His only other contribution is opening the gate, which could've been achieved several ways, including not having a gate at all and making Makuta the only obstacle to getting back to Metru Nui.
His characterisation is also a mess because it's so heavily tied to Bob Thompson's version of Makuta. Bob's Makuta is more misguided than pure evil, and merging with Takanuva gives him clarity, represented by the grime and dirt being cleaned off of his armour. He realises that Mata Nui needs to be awakened and they use their merged strength to open the way back to Metru Nui.
Except Bob's Makuta disappears after 2004. Greg's version is characterised very differently, to the extent that Makuta's role feels almost absent, and you just have to kinda conclude that Terry was thinking "Yeah okay, Mata Nui's probably dying by now, time to let 'em back into the robot to save him" and relied on his labyrinthine mind to conceal that from Takanuva.
He's very much a "We're selling a boxed set of the Takanuva/Makuta combo model so we gotta make it important" character, a habit that I'm glad they kicked by 2005 and they didn't cram Voporak into Web of Shadows.
Also saw it in an AMC, and they had one of those clear exit signs hanging down, so the thing I see when I come out is a giant red TIX3.
Something I think ppl who aren't used to it struggle with when it comes to ancient history is that frequently 'we do not and cannot know this' is the only truthful response a historian can give. People severely overestimate how much we actually know about Ancient Rome.
I remember talking to someone at a party once about the debate over Septimius Severus's ethnicity (whole other can of worms) and they asked if genetic testing of his remains was not a way to settle it and I was like oh. Oh okay you are under the impression we have the physical remains of Roman emperors from the second century AD alright then. (We. Do not.)
Can't stress how much of high level study of Ancient History is devoted to trying to make sense of what actually factually happened. When I was at university (10+ years ago now) the discipline was embroiled in the lengthy and ongoing process of trying to unpack not just the biases in ancient sources but the centuries & centuries of biases within the field itself. I don't imagine this process is ever going to Stop. It's not uncommon for historical accounts to be so garbled & contradictory that it's not possible to reconstruct the real events behind them.
Once in an introductory lecture one of my professors was talking about this problem and articulated it very simply as 'we know real things happened between real people, but we aren't sure what they were'. Sums it up really!!
"All the information we have about the historical event known as That Time Barbarians Kicked My Cat is the chronicle of Cattus of Catalia, titled Regarding That Time Those Fucking Barbarians Kicked My Cat. It's possible a cat was kicked by barbarians but we are not sure about the details. It might be no cat was kicked at all. Let's say a cat kicking did occur but let's remember we cannot be sure"
