I don’t ask to be spoiled, but if my presence dosen’t inspire you to treat me like a princess we won’t go much further.

Queer Love in Color / Brown, Black, Queer and Invisible, Jamal Jordan.
Why do no gay people look like me? Jamal Jordan, a black digital editor at The Times, lamented growing up. So as an adult, he decided to give a gift to his younger self: the imagery of queer love. Jordan traveled tens of thousands of miles across the globe intent on meeting queer people of color. What started as a photo series for the New York Times burgeoned into Queer Love in Color, a collection of 40 families’ stories and portraits.
“I have always envied straight people for their total dominion over happy love stories,” Jordan writes. “In stories about queer people of color, particularly trans people of color, subjects are often presented as victims.” The people he encountered did share stories of trauma, isolation, and feeling invisible. But the book is really a celebration of how each person (and pair) eventually learned to love themselves—despite “every cue in the world tell[ing them] it’s impossible.” Get to know a few of them, here.

Honestly shout out the fat studs. Very under appreciated group of people 💔🧎🏽♀️
Faces and Phases by Zanele Muholi
Begun in 2006, Faces and Phases is an ongoing series of photographic portraits of Black lesbians and transgender individuals Muholi has met in South Africa and beyond. The portraits work as a visual statement as well as an archive, presenting and preserving an often abused and ostracized community through visual records.
As Muholi writes: “In the face of all the challenges our community encounters daily, I embarked on a journey of visual activism to ensure that there is Black queer visibility. It is important to mark, map and preserve our mo(ve)ments through visual histories for reference and posterity so that future generations will note that we were here.
“In Faces and Phases I present our existence and resistance through positive imagery of Black queers (especially lesbians) in South African society and beyond. I show our aesthetics through portraiture.
“Faces express the person, and Phases signify the transition from one stage of sexuality or gender expression and experience to another. Faces is also about the face-to-face confrontation between myself as the photographer/activist and the many lesbians, women and trans men I have interacted with from different places. Photographs in this series traverse spaces from Gauteng and Cape Town to London and Toronto, and include the townships of Alexandra, Soweto, Vosloorus, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Katlehong and Kasigo.”
so... it's not like they'll ever be canon...
BUT WHAT ABOUT THESE QUESTIONABLE MOMENTS THAT ACTUALLY ARE CANON
like why are they always giving each other heart eyes
