Welp. Silly animated Ladybug and Cat Show For Kids is back again with season 6 and excuse me please if I become obsessed again.

Not hating the new animation.... but I'm not a fan of New Adrien.

The Akuma and Butterfly Holder were all done.

Nino and Alya are legit cuuuuute. Alya guardianship foreshadowing is....... worrying ahahaha

Adrienette was.... struggling tho. Maybe the cute wore off or maybe the writing was too been-there-done-that even for the love square.

But I guarantee (i have to believe) that Marinette's rediscovered socially awkward panic attacks (specifically around dating Adrien) came back with a vengeance because she can't tell Adrien everything and she's simply in denial bc she can't tell anyone the real reason and she guilt-spiraling and self-sabatoging.

I agree with all of this. Thank you for bringing up the Alya guardianship foreshadowing. That has me super worried.

I hope Marinette can find her footing with Adrien. I don’t think her awkwardness is more than the writers reverting to old comedic relief shtick. But your explanation makes a lot of sense and would probably be completely spot on, I just don’t have that much faith in the writers. lol.

Adrien and Marinette going on dates

Adrien and Marinette hanging out at each other's houses and interacting with each other's families

Adrien and Marinette working through problems in their relationship like they did in s5

LADRIEN HUG (I know people want a kiss but I want the hug square completed!)

Moments of Ladybug/Chat Noir secretly fawning over their civilian bf/gf. (*slams fists on table* secret half-requited!!)

Classmate double/group dates (that inevitably end in disaster bc they're all superheroes)

Feligami

Felix and Adrien spending more time together (maybe Felix and Amelie move into the mansion)

Amelie and Nathalie raising their weird pseudo-twins as girl wives

I want someone else to find out Adrien’s identity, and I want it to be Gorilla.

I want Ladybug to suplex Argos at least once. As a treat.

LORE. Specifically around the Miraculouses

I want the Gabriel statue to take hits in every akuma battle. Cataclysm it, knock it over, blow it up. Use that gag as many times as yall want, bby girls.

Classmate identity shenanigans

I want at least once for an akuma to hit and the whole class is just like uhh I gotta go to the bathroom it's a super emergency *cough*

I of course want more Adrinette kisses

I want to see Adrien have more freedom now that Gabe is gone. Let that boy spend time with his friends and doing what he wants

I want group hangouts at the mansion. I want those walls to be lined with friends and loved ones, filling the once cold, empty cage with love and warmth.

I want Tom and Adrien father-in-law type bonding

I want to meet more of Adrien’s family

I want to meet Marinette's scary aunt in London and any cousins she may have

I wanna see my boy Master Fu living his best life and painting with his wife

Weirdly I want Feligami and Adrinette double dates, and specifically I want Felix and Kagami to roast Adrinette the whole time, like wow it took you guys a month to kiss on the mouth? Don't be such babies, it's just kissing. We are so much better at coupling than you two. Let us show you how it's done. (The gag is they're also super weird and bad at being a couple bc they have the collective social skills of a caterpillar)

And I want Marinette to take a nap. On screen. Just let her nap.

Prince Endymion

Hi. Meet my latest obsession:

He has five names, three lives, and a complicated situation.

I used to (affectionately) think of him as “dreamy and useless,” but the more I learn about him, the more sympathetic I’m becoming, and the more learned and sympathetic I become, the faster the headcanons/headsnarking grows, faster even than crystal from a Shitennou’s temper.

So I decided to snark-rant-whine here, as an indulgence and also to save my poor buddy from a text storm. So.

Still kind of useless. Okay, sure. BUT guy did have a pretty raw deal. Orphaned amnesiac at six, bit of a lifelong loner, plagued by dreams of some girl with a shiny rock, and had to deal with painful blackout periods in which he rushed to save a girl he didn’t know because of some preordained destiny. How calm would you be if you found yourself wandering the streets in formalwear time and time again with no memory of how you got there?

Phenomenal cosmic power…with a catch. It turns out his ultimate source of power could only be unlocked by his lady love, and only if she attained a certain level-up. I’d like to have a word with the genius who devised that because that shit move nearly cost us our planet. 

And about that past life. The rant about evil space cougars and the inescapable war culture of Earth will need its own post. 

Don’t forget the lonely alien dudes. My buddy said it best. Guy may be useless, but he’s versatile!

So I had kind of an unexpected reaction to this. I mean yes I initially gasped in delight. But then like a freight train, I was overwhelmed with sadness.

It’s ending.

I’ve kept this last piece of the story for myself like one doesn’t want to use a beloved sticker or decides to keep the last piece of chocolate for later. I have savored this last unknown of a constant part of my life for nearly 30 years.

I was bummed like many to not have access to season 5 of the original anime during the heyday of the bad dub on Toonami. Scoured eBay for affordable DVDs and mangas in English. It became kind of a joke, that it eluded me for so long. I eventually did see Stars in Japanese a few years ago and cried when I finished it only to realize there was this whole other story! It wasn’t over! I’ve also held back from watching the Viz Dub of Stars. My kids think I’m crazy.

I’m a proud owner of a LARGE Sailor Moon collection including an entire set of the manga. But I haven’t read the last one. Something in me just wanted to keep it for later or maybe never. Like an old friend I have never been ready to say goodbye in that way.

But it’s here now. And well deservedly so. And so I cried in my car at the impending goodbye to my favorite character of all time, her story completed. It’s probably irrational and over the top, dramatic and ridiculous but the sobs were very real and so is my sadness. And I thought if anyone would get me, it would be other fans that have become friends.

I will watch it when it premieres like I’ve done with all the Crystal-Netflix releases in full Sailor Moon gear. And I will cry then too. It’ll be glorious. Who’s with me?

CAN I DO A QUICK SAILOR MOON NITPICK

It’s like the most minimalistic thing ever but it has been bugging me for the last like 4 years now.

So obviously (majority of the time) when an anime is dubbed and airing television, executives are gonna change the characters names from their Japanese origin to an American name that’s like vaguely similar to their original name and that’s what happened to the OG 90’s dub of Sailor Moon

Usagi = Serena

Rei = Rei

Ami = Amy

Minako = Mina

(I’m not gonna focus on Makoto being called Lita, that’s not what this is about)

You look at that and think “this is fine, their names are still good” but then you get to Mamoru and in the English dub they decide to call him…..

Darien

You probably don’t think anything about it until you get to the princess Serenity reveal and find that in Mamo’s original life, he was Prince Endymion, and you hear that and it’s like “why didn’t they call him Damien?”

ITS LITERALLY IN THE NAME. What American executive saw that he was call Endymion and was like “you know what his name English name should be, Darian.” LIKE WHAT?!??!

Ok so I thought the same thing for like ever. What in the random ish is Darien?

But my name etymology loving self decided to look into it. First off, I would guess that they didn’t use Damien due to the connection the name has in media to evil (son of satan and such). But I think you are on to the sentiment that the main characters English dub names are taken from their past life names, Serenity = Serena and Endymion = Damien. But because they couldn't or wouldn't use Damien, they adjusted to Darien. That's the boring reasoning. Also they needed a 3 syllable name that loosely matched the mouth movements of Mamoru/Mamo-chan.

Now on to Darien and etymology and why I think someone at DiC did their Naoko Takeuchi level of research. According to several name websites, Darien/Darian is a variant of the name Darren comes from Gaelic/Scottish/Irish origins and the name Darragh and Daire, that means "oak tree". Now that doesn't mean much until you dive into the history of why that means anything.

"The oak tree was a powerful symbol to the Celtic people; it represented strength, vitality, nobility and wisdom. The ancient Druids (Celtic priests) would eat the acorns for wisdom before prophesying. The oak tree’s leaves were also believed to contain healing and renewal powers. In fact, the name “druid” may have very well come from the Celtic word “duir” (oak). The oak tree produces some of the thickest, most useful wood for warmth (fire burning) and shelter (construction). The oak’s nobility comes from its undeniable regal appearance" - according to ohbabynames.com. I've had this page open in my browser for literally years. It also stated that "Darian and Darien could have been coined from Darius, which is a Greek transliteration of a Persian name meaning “possessor of good”."

The way my mouth dropped reading this the first time. So take it as you will, but I don't think it's as random as it appears.

because i NEED more identity chaos. ladybug trying SO HARD not to smooch adrien when she saves him from an akuma. chat noir somehow ending up on marinette's balcony when he thinks it's too late to disturb her with a text but he just can't bring himself to be alone. ladynoir discussing how they CAN'T WAIT to introduce their partner to their significant other and wow they have so much in common...they'll get along so well!

both of them running away from dates to do their job as heroes and feeling like the other is the most understanding person in the world--trying to one-up each other in gratitude by showering each other in gifts but NO why do they keep reciprocating, why are they SO SWEET TO ME, how can one person be so wonderful?

cuddling when they're both exhausted. and they might not know why the other is so tired, but they'll do anything to make them feel safe and protected and loved

if the truth comes out that ladybug lied about gabriel agreste, then marinette speaking in vague terms about how she let down a friend, and adrien reassuring her that of course that friend will understand that she didn't mean to hurt him. that maybe he just needs time. and somehow in turn that makes it easier for chat noir to forgive ladybug for keeping him in the dark

and when the reveal finally comes, that moment of oh, it's you.
