if there was any easiest way to maintain a sense of stability, it was this cafe. as seemingly scary and daunting as recent events were, lucifer would never shy away from what made him happy, this including the cafe, who’s normality and gentle ambience looked untouched, so much so that the cafe felt a whole different sort of ethereal. lucifer was sat, his cup in hand. even if he hardly spoke to anyone other than sandalphon when he got the chance, as well as one other staff member, just sitting within the vicinity of these people was something that felt so mundane and carefree, that lucifer at least wanted to try losing himself. if only for a moment, he could envision this tranquillity as though it had always been there in the place of despair. it was certainly a wondrous surprise seeing erhi; lucifer knew some time had passed, and of course, erhi was in his thoughts throughout the intense happenings that had transpired. but he was glad that, by assumption, at least, erhi was out of harms way. lucifer’s gentle smile immediately fell into place. no company felt warmer when it came to new faces he had met. “ah, erhi, i am very happy to see you.” he wasn’t one to lie or keep answers from her without a good reason. but sharing the details of what had recently happened still caused for a slight tremble in the primarch’s fingers. he slowly put his cup down on the table before him. “you would be right, a lot has happened.” a pause. “ …. would you like to take a seat? i have missed your company.”
it was no wonder whispers of what had happened would seep through spirale. even if, much to lucifer’s poor decision, he was trying to not think about it. it had been a moment that challenged his vulnerability to its very core. lucifer was weak. perhaps more so than he ever had been. “….i’m glad you weren’t here for it,” lucifer said, catching erhi’s eyes with his own. “as much as your company would be missed, there are safer places to be. i am relieved to see you unharmed and well.”
his words, his welcome, brings a smile to her face, though her gaze lingers on his hands rather than his face as she sits. lucifer’s expression remained as kind as it had been last she met the man, unquestionably, but his body betrayed him in ways she wasn’t convinced he noticed. the thought troubles her, and causes her lips to purse.
lucifer was a powerful being. the black mage had learned this relatively quickly ( this city was never one to afford its residents uninterrupted peace ). while his wings were reminiscent of a lightwarden’s own, that was where the similarities ended. and yet, even the most powerful of warriors could feel hurt, could struggle. power, both physical or magical, meant very little when it came to wounds of the mind, and wounds of the heart.
❛ returning home meant that i was safe from the dangers of this world, that is true. ❜ her tone is soft, and all the while erhi reaches a hand to his ( one not otherwise occupied with the cat so adamantly vying for attention ). offering a small conciliatory squeeze, she holds his gaze.
what exactly had taken place in her absence, she could not be sure – nor was she inclined to pry, if it had caused him to suffer so. but the warrior of light could empathize with pain, and with loss. such burdens were the only constants the hero of eorzea could carry throughout her journey, an adventure that brought as much hurt as it did joy ( if not more so ). ❛ but all the same, i am truly sorry that i was not here to be of any help to you. nobody deserves to face hardships alone, regardless of how strong they may be. friends are there to support one another, you know. ❜
