Beautifully written post by my fellow Christmas/Solsticetimes co-mother @ccolemanmusic 🎁 🌲 Posted @withregram • @ccolemanmusic So you all might have noticed I have TOTALLY fallen off my self-directed #decembercreativeflurry commitment. I’m going to blame it on the supply chain (but really it’s because I’ve been working on this new project with @madelinetasquin getting the wheels in motion for a full Christmas album volume 2 release next year. For those of you who have purchased our 2012 Xmas album, The Merry Innocents, on bandcamp, you should have or soon will be receiving a sneak peek of our 2022 album, with 3 songs… one of which is in Welsh… (I did my best, ancestors!!!!). You can read below about our first album, and buy the digital version on bandcamp!! You can GIFT it, too!!! ——————- Madeline Tasquin and I created a Christmas album in 2012 and I appreciate it more every year. We decided to not shy away from our Christian nativity-scene roots, and instead we dug into the myth and meaning of Jesus's birth from a broader perspective. The story of the birth of Christ, Jesus, the Messiah is a solstice story. It was placed at Solstice time to meld with pagan traditions of celebrating the return of the sun (son) during the very darkest time of year. "O Come Emanuel" is the best example of this- it's about the struggle of oppression, and rejoicing in the middle of the darkest time because we know liberation will come. The earth moves around the sun, nothing will stay the same, the first will be the last, during times of darkness and chaos, we rejoice in knowing that everything changes Ritual markers of the days and seasons remind us that It might get worse, and it might get better, but it sure as hell isn't going to stay exactly the same. So in addition to a deep dive into the Jesus story, in all it's dark solstice sweetness, there are quite a few non-Jesus wintery songs on here as well, sung in French and German (and a few in English too)!! I also adapted an Ogden Nash poem for the first song on the record, and you know you wanna check that out! Enjoy!! It is available for you to stream and buy from our Merry Innocents Bandcamp page, link in my b https://www.instagram.com/p/CX2GmmFJfdN/?utm_medium=tumblr
