If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of hell.
Thanks Mana for dying, instead Saki has a new jacket
Yup these are Saki’s new sprites
Who Loves The Smell Of Fresh Bodies In The Morning // Abnormal Days
You wake up to an announcement. As soon as you hear it, you feel yourself going pale. It sounded like it came through an old, suffered PA - the sort of amplification one would expect from one, at least. The voice was the much-dreaded Mono-Oni’s, who couldn’t possibly have anything positive to say.
[ A body has been found. All students are to move to the Entrance Hall. ]
As soon as you exit your room, you can tell that something is off. The vague smell of iron fills the air, and you can hear an eerie creaking from behind the wall as you make your way to the designated location.
And as soon as you arrive, it hits you. The sight and smell of a fresh body.
More specifically, the body of Mana Pureta, the SHSL Psychology Expert.
It looks almost comical. Stuck to a broken pipe, somehow affixed on the floor, head lolled to the side like a broken doll. His body lay on a pile of rubble, seemingly from the ceiling, making his predicament look even more uncomfortable. Despite this, his expression is calm, empty even. The drying blood is everywhere, stinging your nose with the scent of death— the death of a person that still a few hours ago walked among you, breathed, talked.
One of the students among you has died.
And it was clear the killer wasn’t far.
Checking his body you can find the Name Tag he was given upon arrival to the school; and your first surprise is the unfamiliar name featured on such…
Mamoru DeWitt, SHSL Psychology Expert, has been found dead.
INVESTIGATION START.
I love the smell of well-seasoned old buildings | MANA | Reaction
He had to be honest; he wasn’t expecting that. But whatever he was feeling, he had to admit that he much preferred the scent of seasalt to that of a rotting old corpse. He did grieve, admittedly. I mean come on, the guy was interesting, and the Psychologist always felt sad when a mind he hadn’t studied to it’s fullest left the land of the living.
Then when the tall ghost spoke up and gave them something Mana was not expecting; he percked up visibly. A motive to kill. The essential part of each crime; the reasoning behind it. Even if it was for the hell of it, it was still a motive.
But this…
"…Erased…. from existence…? As in, completely forgotten, or wiped from history…?"
…This was very, very creative for an external reason. He immediately grew interested in the taller ghost. Or whoever was controlling it, you never know. Couldn’t help but let out a delighted laugh, in fact; this was bound to be a joyous occasion, getting to study so many people! …As odd as the motive was. Were people seriously not questioning this at all? Wow, teens’ intelligence rates had really gone down in the past few years.
"Hahaha, I’m surprised at the lack of people questioning the possibility of such. Then again, thinking rationally in this place? Probably not the best course of action, I’d imagine.”
To be frank; his existence being wiped away would be a huge favour to the entire planet. However, he for once had a reason to actually avoid getting hurt or killed, for that matter. He had a cute little dove to look after, of course.
"…My my… I do wonder who’ll be the first to take the bait."
The courtyard has enough trees, thanks | MANA | Starter for Nikki
Nikki raised an eyebrow then flinched when Mana called them names. Well, just one insult but still. What the fuck. They do not understand him…
"Uh fuck, I’m sorry, okay?"
They knew they had to apologize… Or at least they assumed they should but… The next thing just confused them more.
"….."
Nikki honestly didn’t know what to say. All this psychology stuff blurted out, at least it’s what they suppose, and the astrologer just doesn’t know what the terms, that Mana is spitting out, just mean. Honestly, they just stared at the psychologist, extremely confused.
What the heck is this guy on…
"Ah, whatever. I'll think about it on my freetime."
And suddenly he seemed like he just got free candy. This guy, honestly.
"Sooo, uh... How's my ol' tinman hangin'? He still a fan of fish? Still a lazy piece of crap?"
Well he certainly... oh, nevermind. There was little to nothing that could be a permanent feature in this guy-- other than he was most than likely insane.
The courtyard has enough trees, thanks | MANA | Starter for Nikki
"Hrm. Interesting."
So he did fail an experiment?… Strangely enough, Nikki had a feeling this guy hides the truth.
Did Vale ever spoke ill of Mana…? I’m pretty sure that’s not the case… Maybe deep down, he thinks that but he never said it outloud to me…
"What the fuck is wrong with you. he did say you did something questionable but thaaaaaat’s it."
Nikki was getting mildly irritated at this point. Mana changes expressions way too fast, and they can’t understand what the fuck he’s really thinking right now.
It’s like this guy has something hidden that contradicts what he’s saying… Or even just a part of it is half truth… I need to know him more… Doubt it’ll be easy.
"Oh, I get that a lot-- I regret to inform you that even I don't know what's up with my mental state... It's not a bipolar disorder for sure... Multiple personalities? No... Hm... Lack of identity? No no no, not that either... Hrmm..."
He suddenly groaned and glared up at them scowling.
"For fuck's sake, look a' what'ya did! Now I'll never stop thinkin' bout it, ya blobby snake! Ugh, just when I thought I'd gott'n over that!"
...He really did seem upset all of a sudden. Did his accent change too? What on earth was this boy??
"...Overcompensating for a lacking factor... nah... ...hm...... Replacing an existing attribute with a similar but false one... no no... what on earth... overly analytic over own behaviour causing one to minimize their uniqueness... nnnnope... Frankenstein's mirror... well that makes no sense... does it? Hm."
...Well, he surely wasn't lying about not being able to stop. What the heck was he mumbling about? It went on and on, that's for sure.
The courtyard has enough trees, thanks | MANA | Starter for Nikki
Nikki listened to what Mana said, while frowning slightly.
An experiment, huh.
"Hrm. May I ask what kind of experiement you did….?"
This sounds so wrong but they can’t know what the hell happened at all.
Wait a minute, now his introduction…
Mana Pureta… Mana Park… Mana Park?!
"Wait! I’ve heard that name. so you’re that guy he told me about. Huh.”
Well, this certainly can’t be good at all, after what they’ve heard from Valentino… Mana doesn’t sound like someone they’d trust…
And despite them disliking to judge by the cover of the book, they have a much worse feeling from Mana, even when in front of the psychologist. Even with his cheerful tone, it just… doesn’t reassure them much.
"Oh? You fascinated? I could share aaaalllll the details with you if you want, but that'd be a loong looooong story. I'll just sum it up with the words 'Mildly questionable psychological experiment', if you will. Though it did fail in the end. I wasn't smart enough to pull it off yet back then, honestly."
"Oh, so he does remember me~ Let me guess, he only spoke ill of me, didn't he? He's always been like that, I swear. Even after all the good times we shared together."
It was quite interesting to see so many different faces on one person.
The courtyard has enough trees, thanks | MANA | Starter for Nikki
Nikki wasn’t sure what the hell this guy is doing right now. He looked deep in thought, well okay-
“the only memorable thing about you is your height.”
HEIGHT.
Needless to say that irritated them. What the hell is this guy’s problem?
"Thanks, Captain Obvious."
Wait- He knows Valentino as well?! Nikki stared in Mana’s eyes, as if they were trying to find an answer…
"….He’s my boyfriend. yes. You know him, too?"
"Of course I know him-- he was my best friend back when I lived in Italy! ...Until he chickened out about an experiment of mine, of course. I can't blame him though, I was quite the devil as a kid."
He let out a hearty laugh, like someone recalling fond childhood memories, and eventually sighed, scratching his nose, as if embarrassed.
"...Ah, my name's Mana Pureta, in case he's ever mentioned me. Though, I believe that back in the day, I went as Mana Park."
The courtyard has enough trees, thanks | MANA | Starter for Nikki
After paying last respects to their friend and hoping he has much less pain in the afterlife, despite themself being non religious at all, and thanking Isamu for helping them, Nikki walked back to their room. They didn’t notice another guy accidentally bumped in them.
"Ah— It’s fine."
Normally they would be angry but… They did not have the energy anymore… Okay, maybe a bit for talking… But not for yelling, that’s for sure.
"…I’m Nikki Hera. SHSL Astrologist. …And who might you be?"
As polite as they were, their feeling was not stranger to them; did they see him before…? Not like it matters in this creepy as fuck place!
"...Nikki Hera...... Nikki Hera... ......Hera... Hera... Hera, Nikki..."
Finally, he seemed to find what he was looking for from the confines of his brain, and he surprisingly reached a look of realization.
"Ah! I believe I actually remember you! Quite surprising, considering the only memorable thing about you is your height."
Wow. Way to not even try being nice, Mana.
"Does the name Valentino ring any bells? Blue hair, looks emotionless, lover of all things fish...?"
Would be cooler if it was alive | MANA | Body reaction / RE: Tokaji
Turning the entirety of his body to face the boy, Tokaji slowly let the smile fade from his face as the other seemed to only show amusement in response to his own outburst. He couldn’t help but wonder how much of his carefree attitude was an act. In fact, how much of him as a whole was an act? While he pondered these things, he stared Mana down for a few brief, agonizing moments as he took a slow drag of his cigarette.
As the last of the resulting smoke left his mouth, he bent forward and took an extremely hammy bow. His expression remaining as jagged as usual, however. A clear show of sarcasm.
"My, it certainly seems as if it does not take much to bring your spirits up. All the same, I am perfectly glad to oblige when your feedback is as enthusiastic as that of an enthralled child’s."
Raising his head, Tokaji summarily shrugged and tilted his head at Mana’s explanations. While there wasn’t any proof that he was telling the truth at this point, there also wasn’t much use in playing devil’s advocate. While the other’s demeanor and methods certainly… irritated him, he had no choice but to take his word for now.
"In that case, am I to believe that you often play with the emotions of those around you? I cannot say I am unfamiliar to such modus operandi, in which case I will not condemn you for it.
While I cannot promise that I will come running whenever you wish to have a conversation, you are free to attempt approaching me whenever it is in your convenience to do so.”
"Haha, you're kind of a sharp one, huh? Well, I don't really play with people, to be honest. I'll let you find out what I like to do yourself. But I will hold you to that offer, Uzaki-san."
He stretched and attempted to wipe some of the fluids off his clothes, hoping it would at least stop stinking soon. Eugh. He was not a fan of this stuff, too gross.
"So, we shall meet again at a later point then, I presume? Thank you for conversing with me, I believe I learned a good few things."
He turned around, ready to leave, but stalled and turned to the other with a somewhat sinister smile, tilting his head just the tiniest amount.
"Ah, I almost forgot; showing weaknesses is one thing, but showing your strengths in such a situation isn't really advisable either. I'd think someone like you would've realized that by now."
Would be cooler if it was alive | MANA | Body reaction / RE: Tokaji
There was a limit to how thick you could lay it on, be it through words or demeanor. Tokaji knew that better than anyone. He stared wearily at Mana as the other’s turn came to continue this incessant back-and-forth, his gaze almost as unrelenting and vacant as Mister Scary’s. Just what was he doing right now? Entering into an indistinct debate with a vaguely vile eccentric that he had met just mere minutes ago under pretenses that painted the boy as something not unlike a stalker or celebrity hunter… with an oxymoron of a pristinely rotten corpse as the line between them?
This had to be one of the more surreal events in Tokaji’s life, all things considered. Asinine. Outrageous, even. So much so that he found himself standing up and taking slow, deliberate steps away from Mana and what used to be Marco… to laugh. His laughter grew increasingly cacophonous until he was cackling at the top of his lungs; it was likely that his peers in the next rooms over could hear him. Why exactly was he laughing? Was it this current strange turn of events? Was it the realization that this was the situation he had been inexplicably brought into? It didn’t matter, because his jubilation died down before he could ponder these matters at length. His hard, flippant expression returned as quickly as it left.
Ending his wild outburst with a sigh, he retrieved an object from within his coat with his back still turned to Mana, shaking it loudly and tossing something from it’s contents into his mouth before once again placing it out of sight. What could that have been? Before you could find the time to place any guesses, he immediately lit up another cigarette to replace the one that left his mouth during his abrupt bout of glee.
"Certainly, it would be a matter at the height of simplicity for me to add one more corpse to the headcount of this room. Your current prone position, completely absorbed in whatever machinations pervade your mind, only further trivializes the process."
Tokaji paused, craning his neck back to grin at the boy that remained at the corpse’s side.
"Yet what good would it do me to stain my hands with both cold and warm blood in the span of one day? Some… no, many may categorize such behaviour as characteristic of the Chuunibyou Bomber, but what do I stand to gain from putting what seems to be a living doll out of his misery? Indeed, leaving you as you are would be most convenient. I lose any need to exert myself and you are able to perpetuate an apparently nihilistic existence that thrives on baseless conjecture and externalization.”
Mana followed. Ah, how joyful, this reaction... The bomber was too busy laughing, but Mana's smile widened just the tiniest bit as he stood up himself, shaking his feet as clear of the gross fluids as possible. The sudden display of near manic laughter didn't phase him at all-- oh no, this was in fact an expected reaction.
As the other calmed and continued his speech, Mana only responded with a smile, tilting his head kindly. He looked nothing less than a child who'd just gotten what he'd wanted, any trace of his previous creepiness suddenly gone.
"Hahaha, that was a wondrous reaction~ Thank you, thank you, that really cheered me up~"
...Did he really not care at all for what the other had just said...? He moved his hands behind his back and kicked the ground-- thankfully far enough from the body not to kick it accidentally-- and rising his shoulder somewhat, he smiled bashfully like a child right after a soft scolding.
"...Sorry if I came off like a creep to you, I really didn't mean that. I'm a Psychology Expert, you see, so I really like to act a bit different sometimes just to get a reaction. You seem like a really interesting fellow, so I couldn't help it~ Please don't think ill of me."
His previous calm and mature tone had taken a full 360 degrees, and he was now light-hearted, childish and polite. Even apologetic. But his posture remained to that expected of a person his age, and he smiled like a goof, rubbing his cheek.
"I really hope we can get to a better understanding, Uzaki-san. You're a really cool guy, so I'd be honoured to talk to you more."
well kick me in the shin and call me a yankee what have i gotten into now | MANA | Saki
Saki stared at him, almost bewildered by his words. Not a pleasant person???
"Unpleasant? I don’t see how so! I mean, I was a total stranger who fainted on you. You could have just put me down, or taken me to my room and just left me! But you didn’t. That’s pleasant enough I think."
She smiled widely and glanced at his hand.
"But of course. You’re right. We should get going."
She softly took his hand, not really sure what to make of it, but smiled nonetheless.
"Haha, it might be because of how we met that I can be so kind towards you. You're very accepting and trusting of a man who took you to his room while unconscious, after all. ...I'm actually very happy about that, since not many people willingly trust me. For good reason, of course."
He took her hand as she set hers on his and helped her up, smiling softly. If one hadn't known better, you'd think he'd really gazed at her like he was slowly but surely falling in love. In either case, he idn't let go of the hand and instead held on tighter as he left to exit the room, walking slow enough for Saki to keep up.
It didn't take much time at all to reach the courtyard. As the two did, Mana looked around and frowned, using his free hand to wrap the jacket tighter around himself. Whew, how chilly. He looked around, standing still for a moment, before turning his attention to Saki. Ah of course.
"...Are you cold, Saki?"
Would be cooler if it was alive | MANA | Body reaction / RE: Tokaji
"Hah! Black, you say? Black indeed. Every fiber of my being is a chic, fashionable black. Quite in line with haute couture, would you not say?"
Though Tokaji’s gaze was no longer pinpointed on Mana, he found himself doing what he was known for in spite of himself: countering. His outward attention remained with the corpse that laid between them, but he had already begun counter-analyzing the amber-eyed boy. He could ascertain a strange sense of familiarity from the other… though reaching specifics was difficult after only a scant few minutes of observation. It was at least obvious that the boy’s demeanor was something of a mask. Strangely relatable… yet a bit too close for comfort. He wouldn’t let such nuances show, of course.
"You seem excited enough over being in the presence of one such as myself, regardless of whatever stench or viscera you would have to wallow in. I am sure you have noticed the liquids soaking into your footwear by now."
Tokaji look an agonizingly slow drag of his cigarette before glancing upwards at Mana, cancerous smoke flowing out of his mouth in a steady stream as he continued to speak equally cancerous words.
"…I have been told that countless times by hordes upon hordes of bombastic women clamoring for the opportunity to spend a night or two with me, but this is the first time I have heard it from a strange boy attempting to psychoanalyze me with eyesight and vaguely flirtatious remarks. Regardless, I suppose I should share my name in return, though you most likely already know who I am… I am Tokaji Uzaki, given the title of Super High School Level Counter-Terrorist.”
He further raised his head, returning his glance to a fully direct glare.
"You are quite the opportunist, to be taking this untimely moment to attempt to delve into the securely vaulted mind of the great Chuunibyou Bomber."
Yes, truly chic. So chic that it started sounding like 'chick' with how the guy reminded him of a stereotypical lady on the corner at that moment. The image of him covered in blood counteracted that visual, however, and Mana deemed it was better that way. Laughing at this guy was most likely a grave mistake.
"Oh? At no point did I add a flirtatious tone-- Stating an honest observation is what a scientific mind as mine does. I'll assure you, while you qualify as 'attractive' in many senses of the word, I'm not exactly jumping in joy at the idea of spending a night with a person I've just met. Not to mention someone who seems... Ah, never mind."
"Aha! I knew you looked familiar! Ahhh, my poor memory, please forgive me. Tokaji Uzaki, hm... I'm afraid I'm but a mere deranged blogger, so you most likely have no clue about me. I help in detective work here and there, but it's hardly anything special, haha."
More like what all he's searched and found out about you, anyway. His obsession with psychologically interesting well-known figures really got him in trouble at times, honestly. At the last scentence, spouted with a dark tone-- ooh, ice-cold~ -- Mana merely lowered his lashes, the tiniest spark of whatever it was that made humans look alive disappearing. His expression barely even changed.
"...You know what they say; curiosity killed the cat. I'm not particularly worried, anyway. If it all leads to my time to go, then so be it; regardless of the method. Shouldn't one wish to die doing what they love, or do you disagree?"
.........
Something about this boy was very, very wrong.
Would be cooler if it was alive | MANA | Body reaction / RE: Tokaji
Tokaji continued his thorough scrutiny of the corpse that was once Marco Mason, despite noticing an outsider making his way over and settling on the opposite side of the body. Did they wish to examine the remains as well? Commendable, but he wasn’t in the mood to make way after his own had been obstructed for so long. They would have to either watch or wait their turn.
Try as he might, he just couldn’t determine the nature of the wounds on Marco’s back… much less the state of his internal organs. Both would most likely remain unknown without gravely desecrating the cadaver. While others might have thought of such trivial knowledge as pointless, Tokaji saw it as an opportunity to gain an insight into what dangers were lurking within this deplorable place… ghosts aside, of course.
After the passing of a handful of slow minutes, Tokaji finally let out a sigh of frustration, loosing smoke over the body. Pausing to wipe his brow with his forearm, the counter-terrorist finally noticed that the strange observer’s point of interest was not the corpse, but him. What did he want?
"…I beg to differ. I understand your captivation, but if you take a moment to look at anything other than my face, you may find that I am currently anything but green. At any rate, to answer your question… I do a fair few things that many others refuse or have no desire to.”
As if to prove his point, Tokaji slowly raised his hands to Mana, which were currently coated in blood and various unidentifiable bodily fluids. Haphazardly shaking them dry, he then proceeded to once again lower them to the body and resumed his examination, all the while glaring straight into Mana’s eyes. An indignant rebuttal to the other’s seemingly pointless show of intimidation or self-assurance.
He would continue to make direct eye contact for several more seconds before scoffing and lowering his gaze to the cadaver once more.
"I overheard you mumbling to yourself earlier. What on earth do you mean by becoming this upon dying here? One is reduced to lowly flesh upon death regardless of where one dies. You may even go as far as to say that this is the end result of life itself. It is only a matter of when and how.”
"Ah, I suppose you do have a bit of black on you. But I agree to disagree on the comment about you not being green. I suppose it's fair to admit the majority of your outfit is black, in either case. How stylish."
The psychologist didn't bat an eye at the other staring at him, merely tilted his head and smiled softly, as if admiring his eyes. It was now that Tokaji could see a shocking lack of something in the other's eyes. Quite hard to pinpoint what-- but while he looked to be smiling sincerely, his eyes held an eerie hollowness to them. In fact, even after Tokaji diverted his gaze, Mana continued staring at him, not even flinching as the rotten fluids Tokaji shook off made contact with his skin and clothes. No-- he kept on focusing on the green orbs that not so long ago struck him as the eyes of someone... interesting. No homo, as hecking hot as the guy was
".........Of course I know. This is certainly not my first time seeing a dead body either, I'll share as much with you. However, it is my first time seeing one so... ah, aged. I can't say I enjoy the odor much, and you splattering it over me doesn't exactly excite me."
He still kept looking at the counter terrorist's face. A familiar face was what it was, in fact. How could he not have heard of the infamous Chuunibyou Bomber? You'd be surprised at how much research this guy can do a day. Hm. He'll withhold his information about the guy for the time being.
"...Your eyes are truly fascinating, did you know that? My my, I only wonder what's going on in that well-formed head of yours. ...Ah, I always forget to introduce myself. My name is Mana Pureta. I'd hope my talent isn't so hard for you to guess?"
Would be cooler if it was alive | MANA | Body reaction / RE: Tokaji
As ignorant of these ghosthunter methods as he was, he did go ahead and inspect the salt tossed aside a bit before deeming it was, indeed, normal salt. Tasting it was a stupid thing to do but hey it worked. Should’ve died away you ass—
The really interesting thing didn’t happen until he followed the scream, and found half of the run-down building’s current residents shoved all together in one room, which appeared to be a classroom all things considered. The body struck him as the most interesting feature, but he did scan the area real quick first. Mostly, for the others’ reactions. Before he knew it, he’d pulled his trusty journal out, and was scribbling away at a rather impressive speed.
Finishing his notes on the surveyors, he took jotted down a few more lines about the one student crouched up and getting his hands real dirty. Finished, he clicked his tongue, put his notes back to his pocket and ran a hand through his hair. Put on your best act, Mana, as much as you hate stinky things, this is for science.
Walking over to the other proved to be of no task. At least, until the stench of the body invaded his nose, and he froze, just staring at it for a while. A dead body. A rotting one, of all things, how gross. Now, this was in no case his first time seeing someone dead, but to see such progressively decaying, releasing such a foul odor… Man, what an experience. He’d be lying if he claimed he hadn’t felt like he wanted to lose his lunch, but he supposed he could see it in a positive light. You know. Like an insane person.
“…So, if we die here, this is what we become, I presume… Fascinating.”
He wasn’t really talking to anyone in particular, but sitting down next to the body to observe Tokaji— exclusively Tokaji, as the body was of no use for his curiosity anymore— it was obvious that the raven-haired student at least heard. …If he was listening, anyway; Mana could see he was currently more engrossed in something or someone less… talkative.
To think such a gross corpse once carried a valuable mind, a free will. What would he do if he saw someone ruining his former residence like this? Wonder if he had become a ghost too. Or did that only apply to some people? What kind of people? To be honest, Mana would much rather get in touch with this mental part of the dead boy— though his internal organs must have definitely been interesting on some level for this green fellow to care.
“…Do this stuff often, Mr. Green? Near everything other than your face is green, anyway.”
Either the psychologist was feeling ill and refusing to admit it, or he was really giving off a creepy aura for no reason.
it doesnt matter if it’s not super quality but
i showed it to c-d and hope and
that’s all it matter
