Flynn had a look inside the ominous ābox of glassesā that Belle had directed him to. He hated that thing, and, yet, he had found himself having to look inside of it a few times ever since he became a navigator. It was probably because Flynn was often hunched over them, even in the weak light, to try and find better and more objective paths, discover new things. He couldnāt help it, it was the part of what he did that he loved. Flynn heard steps coming along, which caused him to look up.Ā āHow about these?ā he asked, showing the person who was joining him a pair of glasses he was holding.
"Glasses is it, Mister Smee?ā Rhetorical, of course. But if he wanted to answer it Mana wouldnāt question why. He took the glasses in hand as he sat down and held them up in the air as though inspecting them. Hell, he even closed one eye and stuck his tongue out. Mana himself was always too scared to get his eyesight tested himself. Probably end up heading down the same track as this guy here. So heād stick to squinting for the time being.Ā āIād go with contacts,ā he said as he offered the glasses back.Ā āOr at least thatās what Iād tell whoever the fuck got you rummaging through this boxĀ āere when they ask ya. Fuck cleaning glasses all day.ā

His father was a deckhand on many pirate ships. From Europe to Africa. Americas. The Caribbean. Australasia. He would sail port to port, offering his services to whichever boat was sailing to a place he hadnāt been before. It was only once he came to the shores of Maui that he fell in love. The crystalline oceans. The temperate climate. It was perfect.
Mana was born and raised on Mauiās golden beaches, his now retired pirate father settling with a co-worker at the resort he launched scuba tours from. Just like his father and mother, Mana has an affinity for the ocean. He was swimming long before he was walking. He spent more time on and in it than on land for years.
It was his father that got him on board the Black Trident. He had previously sailed with the Captain and left enough of an impression that he would take his son. Mana boarded the Black Trident at age 14 when the ship was in the area trying to secure the territory.
Already a capable deckhand due to his years with his father, he quickly impressed a young Captain Tulach, who replaced Manaās father mentor role. Mana flourished under the tutelage. But unlike his father, who followed the winds, Mana followed the Captain and served on the Black Trident for as long as he could.
He was asked to become the First Mate on the Raging Tsunami by Captain Tulach personally. Return the favour that Captain Tulach bestowed upon him by becoming the mentor for his youngest child. The fact he was raised in and had personal knowledge of the warm waters was a bonus.
Despite appearances speaking to the contrary, Mana is a rather affable young man. A fan of his drink, of a good fight and an easy woman, heās your prototypical pirate. But he is more than capable. And if someone is to join him in his cups or in his fight or with his woman then he expects them to be just as capable. Mana is just as likely to thump his crew than he is the opposition. Cyclone Mana is absolutely a thing.
