Kedah House: Malaysian Buffet

Fried potato with peanut sauce, beef rendang, spicy egg, chicken

Verdict: Limited, but solid selection for the price. Fill up on the beef rendang. Owner operated, he often comes out to chat with the regulars and watch sports on the TV. Open for dinner only Wednesday/Thursday, lunch and dinner Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Located in the same complex as Visions Electronics. If driving west, turn left just prior to the Argyle Street light. Free parking.

Gillnetter Pub: Sunday Brunch Buffet

Round one: ham with horseradish, bacon, eggs benedict, tater tots, deviled eggs, scrambled eggs, salsa, assorted berries

Verdict: Good, wholesome American-style brunch buffet. Hit the omelette bar and prepare your ingredients before getting your food, as it takes a while before it's made. Fill up on eggs benedict, ham, an omelette. Sit out on the enclosed and climate controlled patio for a nice view. Line up at 10am to get in first, or wait until 11am for the first rush to die down. Free parking.

Kentizen Fusion Lounge: Chinese & Sushi Lunch Buffet

Round One: salmon nigiri, salmon/crab roll, shrimp with cocktail sauce

Front: chicken wings, spring roll, beef with vegetable, gyoza, fish ball, deep fried fish

Verdict: Weekday lunch is decent. Weekend lunch is not really worth it, as the menu is the same. Take out box can be good value. Fill up on the shrimp, salmon nigiri, soft battered white fish, stir fried Chinese food. Washrooms and decor are presentable. Go by 1pm at the latest, as they stop bringing out food around 2:00-2:30pm. Free 2 hour parking below the mall.

Front: salmon/crab roll, salmon nigiri, shrimp with cocktail sauce, yam tempura roll

Knight & Day: Tuesday Night AYCE BBQ Beef Ribs

BBQ beef ribs with fries, orange slices, tomato soup

Verdict: Pricier than the Grand Villa Casino's Texas Tuesday, but the ribs tend to be done better. Rib sauce is more tangy than the Grand Villa's ribs. Later batches seem to get worse, perhaps they're cooked in a different manner. Be careful not to fill up on the soup (I save it to quench my thirst as I eat ribs), as you'll have to wait a while before you get the rest of the meal. Free parking.

First you'll be served soup of the day, and later you'll be given a plate with beef ribs, fries, fruit, and a side of garlic bread.

You can ask to skip the soup if you don't want it.

The first round tends to be done very well, but later batches seem to be cooked more quickly and aren't as soft as the first round.

Bon's Off Broadway: $3 Breakfast

$3 breakfast: two pieces of toast, two eggs, three sausages (or ham, or bacon), fresh made hashbrowns

Verdict: Cheap eats. Expect a lineup. Very hipster feel with permanent marker graffiti on inside walls, would not bring grandma here. Better than Jane's on Hastings near Gilmore. Bring grandma to Ikea instead. Free parking in the nearby neighbourhood.

Round one: pork side ribs, chicken, chili

Verdict: Solid dinner for the price. Ribs not as well done as Knight & Day, but greater variety of foods available. Call ahead to see if they're serving pork or beef ribs, as during last visit (February 2012) they started serving cheaper pork side ribs. Fill up on ribs, thinly sliced bbq beef. Add extra sauce to taste. Must be 19+ to eat here. Free parking at casino-owned lot across the street.

Round two: bean soup, thiny sliced bbq beef with extra sauce, pork side ribs, salad and corn

Step one: gather ingredients for epic bbq beef sandwich

Step two: remove excess bread and stuff lid and base of sandwich with meat

Step three: bon appetite!

Verdict: Complete and utter slop. Do not go. Their sweets at the front are okay, though. Pay parking in the rear, free parking in the nearby neighbourhood.

The Buffet @ River Rock Casino: Friday/Saturday Night Prime Rib Buffet

Round one: shrimp, siu mai, Chinese style beef ball, stuffed tomato, prime rib with gravy and horseradish

Verdict: Decent, but pricey. Watch out for the bottomless juice and soft drinks, you can fill up very quickly on those. The sushi rolls should be skipped. Fill up on the prime rib, shrimp, and dessert. Menu changes regularly so call ahead. Free parking at adjacent casino parking lot.

C-Lovers Fish & Chips: AYCE Fish & Chips

My Kitchen: Portuguese Sausage Stuffed Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Verdict: Greasy, heart-stopping good fun! Could have cut back on the meat, as it was extremely flavorful--to the point of overpowering.
