I’m Alex, 21, he/him or they/them, aroace. This is technically my main blog and my fandom blog, I don’t really care to separate them lol

•My main fandom is Total Drama. My favorite season is Revenge of the Island and my favorite generation is Gen 2, but I like all of the generations and seasons in one way or another. My favorite characters are Mike, Mal, Scott, Zoey, Cameron, Sky, Scarlett, Sammy, Jasmine, Shawn, Millie, MK, Julia, and Alejandro

•I also enjoy Disventure Camp (mostly seasons one and two), Community, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Boy Meets World, Frankenstein, Deltarune, Stranger Things, Miraculous Ladybug, Stardew Valley, and some other miscellaneous pieces of media like Sanders Sides, Star Wars (mainly the prequels & OT), Ever After High, and Monster High

•My non-fandom interests are creative writing, art, making jewelry, jigsaw puzzles, history (especially 20th and 21st century human history), religious studies, and taxonomy

•I’m a full-time student, part-time worker, and I have social anxiety and ADHD, so if I don’t respond to your DMs or asks or anything quickly I’m sorry <3

•I don’t do roleplay or commissions, and my writing/art requests are closed at the moment

so many popular examples of fandom racism are barely actual fandom brand racism bcs white ppl (and honestly too many non black ppl) need outright in your face blatant stuff as proof to shocked and appalled by. most of it is the classic "I'm not touching you style" that's easier to gaslight around which is what a majority of racism is, gaslighting. slave fics a tortureporn of characters of color are awful but that's like individual weirdos who it's easy to mark off as obviously racist. The attention and outrage surrounding these little incidents allows everyone to feel better because of how exaggerated and one off they are, bad eggs in a good batch etc.

Real fandom racism is watching the darkest characters get boxed into the specific outsider pov trope over and over despite them being a core member of the cast. it's watching everyone have in depth headcanons for every character but them, denying them the complexity their counterparts get. It's them getting written out of their own plots, receiving little to no audience sympathy when they ARE complex, and, most importantly, watching them get cast in the same exact role when shipping comes in

but all this isn't loud, it's quiet and unnoticeable unless you've had to watch it play out with every favorite character you've had ever since you were ten and started engaging with fandom. it's repetitive, uncreative, infuriating and worst of all NOBODY WILL LISTEN WHEN YOU POINT IT OUT because you're just imagining it and they're not touching you. I've been making my own content and I've seen how people will go out of their way NOT to engage or engage specifically only to discredit a character of color.

it's not a one off thing or even a small pattern, it is what fandom culture is BUILT on, picking the palest skinniest most pathetic looking man in the cast, projecting onto him and ignoring literally everyone and everything else whether that be fanon over plot or the interesting female or darker skinned characters and masking racism behind fanon tropes

I haven’t thought about Alenoah in a while but I’m thinking about an AU where Alejandro is a creative writer (either anonymously online or openly in a school club or local class) and his work is pretty beloved by those who read it, but Noah ends up reading it and sharing/posting/publishing a scathing review of it, and the two of them start hanging out because Alejandro wants to figure out either how to get Noah to change his opinion of him or how to get revenge on him, and also because Alejandro’s personality bleeds into his writing a lot and Noah is mildly curious about what’s wrong with this guy (“Why is the villain always someone’s emotionally unavailable parent or evil older brother?” “How about we stop talking for a while?”)

The way Miraculous Ladybug season six has multiple times now turned kind of boring characters into extremely interesting and well-developed ones within a single episode is actually crazy to me. Sabrina, Nathaniel, Nino, you are now famous to me. I also love how complex some of the themes and topics have become. Grieving both a lover (Gina) and a shitty parent (Adrien), the ethics of lying, redemption for past bullies, unaccepting parents with queer children, heroism vs vigilantism, cases where divorce is more helpful to children than harmful, etc. Like say what you will about season six but it’s making some huge strides in the right direction imo. Plus the redesigns are sick, and Chrysalis is suchhhh a cool villain I love the akumatization sequences this season like they’re so much more ominous and intimidating

I’ve only watched like four episodes of Stranger Things but I think a no one dies ending genuinely would’ve been so beautiful because what if the power of community/found family saved everyone. What if the show about Freaks and Weirdos ended with the Freaks and Weirdos saving the world by forming the support network they were denied by the rest of the world or whatever
