John Carpenter’s “They Live” #ARTE #2021 was a real treat!
The pristine copy of this 1988 film reminded me of working at 1A Fernsehen in Berlin, were we received all kinds of threats from our viewers for running infomercials about deadly sharks and crocodiles. (So we actually did have an audience, nobody actually complained about our Mermaids, :))
Roddy Piper, Keith David and Meg Foster are great to watch. Awesome performances.
Having met Shepard Fairey at an event of the “David Lynch Foundation”, it was nice to revisit where the artist drew some of his inspiration from.
A remix of Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses at Night” was supposed to be the title song for “Manhattan Dating Project”, which we could not afford at the time...
John Carpenter cannot be lauded enough. I love his work. Which of his movies is your favorite? Photo above of John Carpenter with Make Up Artist Francisco X. Perez courtesy of Zwentner dot com.

THE PARTY OF THE CENTURY
Captivating Story about a fictitious opening day celebration for the Tower of Freedom by Adam Haslett for Esquire. (Jan/Feb 2015)
“...”It’s the most exclusive bar in the world”, she said. “Only one seat. And it’s already taken. But that does not stop them from trying.”
“Taken by whom?”
“A ghost”, she said. “They are trying to evict it.””

Still hung up on the past? One Therapy Says 'Let it Go" - What do you think?
Interesting article by Elizabeth Bernstein in the Wall Street Journal today. (Aug 27, 2013) Especially for a lot of Serial Daters, Narcissists and people unable to move on.
It also supports an old saying in Babylon: "The future is the darkness behind our backs; the past is the light that lies visible in front of us."
The method, called Time Perspective Therapy, involves figuring out which of six different outlooks a person has: past-positive (you love the past); past-negative (you have regrets and bad things happened in your past—or things that you now exaggerate as bad); present hedonism (you enjoy the present and like to reward yourself); present fatalism (you feel that events are beyond your control, so why bother?); goal-oriented future (you plan ahead and weigh the costs and benefits of any decision); transcendental future (you live a good life because you believe the reward is a heaven after death).
The best profile to have, says Philip Zimbardo, psychologist and professor emeritus at Stanford University, is a blend of a high level of past-positive, a moderately high level of future orientation and a moderate level of selected present hedonism.
In other words, you like your past, work for the future—but not so hard that you become a workaholic—and choose when to seek pleasure in the present. Dr. Zimbardo, an influential thinker in this field who lectures widely, administers a 56-item questionnaire to determine a patient’s profile.
Miley Cyrus keeps going and going and...: #MileyCyrus - congrats on your hit "We can't stop". Miley's sweet 16th @Disneyland seems like yesterday. Great longevity in a tough business. Keep twerking and we'll hope, you njoy Berlin!
Good news coming out of Cannes besides Nicole Kidman, Lynne Ramsay, Christoph Waltz, Ang Lee and Steven Spielberg being on the jury. "The Manhattan Dating Project", which had premiered at the famous Festival in Southern France, has just gotten new distribution. Watch on Amazon or I-Tunes.
