I’ve long preached the concept of a silk press Rocky, but I also love the idea of him with faux goddess locs!! In my head, Magenta is the designated stylist of the castle, because she’s probably the most patient of everyone tbh.

As for Frank, I think he would honestly settle for picking Rocky’s hair into a fro over protective styling. There would probably be more emphasis on curl definition than actual technical styling w him ..

rocky horror is one of those movies where all the characters in my eyes is under every queer label. yes brad and janet are bisexuals and also are both gay men and also lesbians. magenta can be transgender both ways. eddie is a butch lesbian. they're all lesbians. they're all gay. they're all bisexual they're all transgender they're all gender-fluid. it depends on the day. they aren't cishet that's for sure 🫡

it's funny, i think about rocky horror a lot but (the character) rocky still catches me off guard every time. it just does not seem to stick in my mind that people are actually, genuinely physically attracted to the "muscle man" stereotype. like, rocky does not have any personality (intentionally so). he is literally JUST a hunk, not in a particularly endearing way--and even if it was endearing, that's not the important thing about him. but frank and janet fawn over him for his LOOKS specifically and i just. it's almost giving "straight guy writes token gay". it's not even like, fabio from my romance novels, per se, he isn't a knight in shining armor or a mysterious vagabond he's just. he's just rocky. quite literally just a hunk of blond, muscular meat. and that's attractive all on its own.

idk man maybe im too aroace for this but im always just like "ah yes next we get a song where we begin to understand the otherworldly appeal of rocky" but no he doesnt have any he's JUST conventionally attractive. and i find the fact that HE is the primary target of everyone's lust kind of surprising especially in a story so unambiguously queer in every other way lmao

1) I personally consider Rocky to be somewhat endearing, idk. I think Peter Hinwood actually did a great job conveying Rocky’s dissonance while also seeming very genuine? Rocky picks up on what he’s praised and degraded for almost immediately; he imitates actions of those around him (mostly Frank, and you could also argue Eddie during Hot Patootie); although he doesn’t speak, he also doesn’t hide his emotions the way people eventually learn to… The sweet thing is just seven hours old, and he’ll never learn what the hell a daylight cycle is. Like most characters of the Frankenstein’s Monster archetype, you kind of have to cut him some slack.

If you’ve seen Shock Treatment, I think the role Brad plays there is very similar to Rocky here. The plot revolves around him without him being very present at all, actually.

2) In terms of Frank and Janet: their infatuation with Rocky is kind of based in.. selfishness. Obviously, Frank finds Rocky’s appearance attractive, but undoubtedly (and more poignantly) also his malleability.

I consider Frank’s fixation with Rocky less like half assed queer rep and more like a mirror of toxic het relationships where men really get off on a conventionally attractive woman they can manipulate, given Rocky embodies the same kind of submission women are often haphazardly written with…

Janet quite literally only fucks Rocky because he’s there lol. At least, thats how I interpret the end of Toucha Toucha Touch Me, with the interchanging characters. Could’ve been anyone, sort of a matter of time and place.

In short (too late), the infatuation with Rocky doesn’t hinge on him being a muscleman much at all, really. If anything, the muscleman aspect seems more related to a societal ‘ideal man’ (especially when that man has blue eyes and blonde hair. Here’s a post with some insight on that aspect.)

Being into hunks is honestly just the love of the game. I’ve seen this movie nearly 50x and I STILL have a visceral reaction to the Charles Atlas reprise
