Sonic the Hedgehog [2019]
I am so ready for this movie

Prelim sketches for Andrea's portrait! Even if I only show the "top half" in the final portrait, I still try to make a habit of doing full-body drawings - I treat it like a full character design. https://www.instagram.com/p/BiiEc9BjWgX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ot23kjk0ahx1
Live drawing of my cousin CiCi from a little while ago when I was visiting my relatives in Buffalo.
She wanted me to show her how I drew things (and people) even if if they were moving, so I drew her! (And the rest of the room too.) https://www.instagram.com/p/BgmcdSJBkKF

The “Underlay & Rendering Process Sheet” mentioned in the “Construction Process” tutorial sheet
Even if it’s not the final style for your piece, understanding linework and line weight hierarchy is extremely important. It increases clarity and visual appeal, which are necessities when pitching an idea or working on a team.
The speed and precision of a line drawing makes it a standard in visual design - but in order for you to get the most out of them, you have to understand how lines “work”!
This example shows an orthographic drawing, but the process/principles can be used for any and all line drawings!
Instead of looking at objects and trying to copy them exactly (including the angle, as if it were flat), the pros READ the shapes & forms! THEN, using perspective, they create an object of their own in their drawing - one that is BASED on their subject, but also fits the needs of the piece.
This tutorial uses concepts and terms I go over in my other “visual math” sheets - which I posted a few days ago.
Another tutorial, a little bit of a crash course on 2-point perspective. Despite what many people believe, perspective is NOT just for machines and architecture - you’re supposed to use it WHENEVER you depict a 3-dimensional space!
Also - just because you don’t SEE the horizon lines and vanishing points drawn DOESN’T mean the artist didn’t use perspective in their piece
A few of many tutorial sheets about “visual math” - my term for perspective techniques and visual proofs. In my experience, these simple techniques are usually the ones that artists need to know (AND know how to use) most in order to actually CREATE instead of just copy.
Learning these skills saved my life - maybe they’ll do the same for you.
Andrea is a professional Dancer, and (like Liz) an American Sign Language interpreter. For those who don't "speak" ASL, the yellow hands in the background are the ASL finger spellings for "A”, “N”, “D”, “R”, “E”, (and then “A"), respectively. The smaller, outlined hands are the ASL sign for “I Love You”. Andrea is also Liz’s Roommate, so I made their portraits able to “look” at each other when placed side by side!
"The Assassination of (Little) Caesar" (Tagline: "Et tu, Burger King?") Completed this one a few years back and it took me juuust under a million years to do. Oh yeah, and it got me thrown out of McDonald's. Totally worth it though. Prints are available at: https://www.teepublic.com/user/mansizedmeatballs

You freaks probably find this hilarious
Another commissioned portrait; this one was a gift! Liz is an Americal Sign Language interpreter (and a good friend of my Mom!) - and for those of you who don't know ASL, she's doing the sign for "Hello!" with her left hand and her "Name Sign" [a person's unique sign to identify themselves] with her right. The hands in the background are the ASL finger spellings for the letters "L", "I", and "Z", respectively. #digital #art #digitalart #myart #caricature #cartoon #stylized #graphic #illustration #design #artist #artistsoninstagram
