I have always interpreted Cerydra's death at Hysilens's hands this way:
Cerydra came to kill herself. It was always the plan. To die by Hysilens's blade. So that Hysilens could live until the end and meet us. So that Hysilens would have nothing left worth dying for. Hysilens would not die for Cerydra. (Like 30 millions times in past)
Hysilens had her orders: "Stay and protect."
And Cerydra betrayed her own people. Killed hundreds — to win a chess match against fate. She seized power, claimed administrator rights, rewrote the commands, and gave the Geniuses a way inside the system.
And Hysilens knew. Because Hysilens knew her.
Knew that killing Cerydra was what she wanted. It was a choose but we all knew it was only one right answer.
"I will kill you, at your own command — because it is the only way to continue your chess match against sky, gods and fate. And i am you knight"
"I will stay for thousands of years, guarding your resting place, waiting to see every seed you planted in your conquest take root — to witness the end of this war."
"You were the first to die on this path. I will be the last."
"And even at the very end, at the very end — you kept your promise. You gave me a new ocean... when all I ever wanted was you by my side."
I knew I loved them when we first learned that her people weren't exactly pleased with their Imperator throwing feasts before and after every single battle.
You could mistake it for vanity, for greed — feasts in the midst of war.
But then we learn: her knight, at their very first meeting, asked if there would be feasts.
"I will be your loyal blade. But I wish to see a feast."
And Cerydra decided — every time, a feast. For her knight.
"This bounty, these festivities, the hearth fires, the revelers — this place, full of peace and wonder, I give it to you. In this world of war and conquest, every feast belongs to you, my knight." — Presumably, Cerydra.
Why do so few people talk about this?
